Week 5 Fantasy Football Discussion

Is Revis going to be back?

Yes, but I wouldn’t worry about that. He was, if not a liability, then certainly no better than average in Week 1 before he got hurt. Don’t see any reason why that should have changed; he hasn’t been practicing.

Appears to be back, he was practicing yesterday.

Moss had 2 catches for 38 yards and a TD against Revis in week 2. That TD was the ridiculous one handed catch Moss made.

Revis was only lined up against Moss about half the game. The other half he was on Welker.

That doesn’t seem to be a plus for the ‘play Moss’ argument.

Actually revis was injured by halftime, but the rest of the team did a great job holding the Pats to 14 points. I don’t think the offense scored in the 2nd half. It seemed like the Jets actually improved with Revis off the field.

I’d take a wait and see attitude on Revis Island before sitting a good wr, but the problem isn’t so much that Revis is the same/better/worse than before, it’s that the other team’s offensive coaches don’t throw to his side of the field. When Revis (and especially Asomugha) “shut down” somebody, it’s not like they get 10-12 passes defended…the WR they are defending gets less than 5 looks.

It’s not that Revis shuts people down every time, they often shut down themselves.

Re: Playing moss vs revis: if you are thinking about sitting your first or second round draft pick WR when they play revis, this should have been your plan from the beginning of the season. Moss was in the same conference as the Jets, so you would have had to sit him for 2 out of 15 games (as most FF leagues play their last game in week 16, not 17.) If you did get moss in the first/second round and did not plan to sit him, then you must play him, particularly if you didn’t plan for it. Then, if you had to scratch Moss, your bench WR’s should be deep enough to account for it.

One guy in my league made the brilliant move of getting both welker and moss, as only one of them would get covered by the “shut down” corner. (Although I doubt he would have predicted that moss would be traded or Aaron Hernandez, the rookie TE, would line up as WR.)

I just made an offer to the Jahvid Best owner to trade for Ochocinco and Addai. He was also interested in BenJarvus, and I was able to get Torain on the WW.

Which is the better deal for you:
Ochocinco + Addai

or

Ochocinco + BenJarvus + Torain

for Best?

I would say wait a bit. He got all those stats on two big catches in weeks 1 and 3 (41 and 61 yards, respectively.) Week 2 and 4 are the weeks you want to consider carefully:

week 2: 3 catches, 53 yards, 25 yard long, 17.7 avg, 0 td’s.
Week 4: 11 catches, 115 yards, 23 long, 10.5 avg, 0 td’s

I think Lloyd’s real value is somewhere between these two. Weeks 1 and 3 are skewed because of the two long catches. Also, this could be because of scheme. If Lloyd gets promoted to wr 1 or 2, then whomever’s #3 could suddenly start getting catches.

You can definitely trust Denver’s offense. Orton has been on fire this year, although his current stats are probably an aberration because Moreno is injured. He won’t dip much lower though, but Lloyd’s ascendance could just be a symptom of Moreno’s absence. If he performs this week, I would start him with confidence.

I’d say play Moss. Olsen is boned this week, imho. NO has a great matchup this week (-7,) which generally means a blowout and lots of handoffs. I’d say Moss is the safe choice, but if you really wanted to gamble, I think Crabtree is more likely to put up a big game than Shockey, although neither has the chance to put up as many points as moss.

I have a week 10 bye for my qb (Aaron rodgers.)

I want to pick a backup qb for week 10 this week. I have two QB’s I really want: Stafford (week 10: Buf) and Rothlisberger (week 10: NE).

Which one should I get? I’m pretty sure that Rothlisberger will be gone by next week. However, Stafford has a much better matchup in week 10.

My shot in the dark: Pick up Rothlisberger, trade him, and then pick up stafford since probably nobody else will get him.

Which route is less risk? Taking Rothlisberger now and keeping him, or gambling and hoping stafford is healthy in week 10?

Missed window: Given the fact that Moss has nearly 0 practice time learning the plays, the way Moss beat Revis in week 2 was the post and streak routes, which are the routes he is most likely to do because he was traded on such short notice. Great cover CB’s tend to have their success on the hook, out, or slant routes. Nobody has an advantage on the streak except the faster player, and it seemed like moss still has a step on revis.

Question: at the end of the season, who’s going to be the FA pick up of the year? I’m betting on Vick, Snelling and Torain.

Peyton Hillis.
And no one with any brains would trade for Rothlisberger. If they wanted him, they’d have picked him up themselves.

Pick up Roethlisberger. Do it now. It’s one thing to play the matchups. It’s another thing entirely to play a guy who is basically still a rookie, and on a shitty team, over a top 10 fantasy quarterback.

What you’re forgetting is injuries. At the beginning of this season, I drafted rodgers and stafford. I dropped stafford because of injury, leaving me no backups and totally boned if rodgers got injured. Rothlisberger could become a hot trade commodity in that scenario. Another team in my league drafted farve with mcnabb as a backup. He already dropped mcnabb, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets fed up and drops farve as well, leaving him no starters. Rothlisberger might be worthless this week but incredibly valuable by next week.

Edit: Actually he dropped farve already and traded for romo.

In an 8 team league, I never make a trade unless the offer benefits me greatly. There are plenty of players available to make up for any injuries. I’m in one 8 team league, I don’t even look at the free agents because my bench is strong enough that I don’t have to.

In my main leagues, a 16 team keeper league and a 14 team auction league, I’m checking the free agents all the time. I generally don’t need to trade to cover anything.

Among these options, who’s the best choice for my second WR (along with Greg Jennings)? I have a trade offer on the table. He wants Sam Bradford from me (he has Cutler and Vick) and offered Lance Moore. Would Moore be better than the options below? I think he’s hit or miss in that offense, and I already have Henderson.

Dwayne Bowe
Dez Bryant
Roy Williams (Romo is my QB )
M. Crabtree
D. Henderson

Williams. Dez Bryant hasn’t shown me anything yet except that the Cowboys are going to force him the ball.
