Week 5 Fantasy Football Discussion

If I would rank them, I would probably put Bowe, Moore, Williams. (Actually I have both Bowe and Moore as well.) Bowe has a very bad matchup this week, but I will be starting him most weeks. Williams I would watch for one more week to see if he’s fixed his hands of stone issue.

If you absolutely must, I would rank moore higher than bowe for this week only because KC is playing Indy and Moore is getting returns with Bush out (if you get return yards/td’s in your league.) After this week, I am starting bowe, and after bush returns, I probably will try to sell moore high.

But, I would question the Bradford for moore trade. Bradford, at this point, could be either another stafford (knocked up and out by a bad o-line) or another matt ryan (a star in the making.) Moore has put together 2 decent weeks in a row, and 2 years ago had a 10 td season. This year though, he seems to be a backup/WR3 and fill-in returner. If you think bradford is going the stafford route, it’s not a bad trade, but if he goes the ryan route, it’s not worth having someone with only temporary value.

I nixed the trade. I like Bradford as a backup (and I have S.Jax, which is a decent combo.) I also picked up Vincent Jackson on waivers as a flyer for the end of the year.

That’s just luck though. My wife’s team has Steven Jackson (questionable), Beanie Wells, Knowshon Moreno (out), and Thomas Jones (bye). Week 4 left her with Beanie Wells as the only starter, and he was coming off surgery in a very bad matchup.

Any crazy drops (not by injury) in your leagues yet? So far, I’ve seen Ryan Matthews, Beanie Wells, Witten, Owen Daniels, and Shonne Greene.

Dang…my offer for Jahvid hasn’t had a response yet… :frowning:

Alright got a trade proposal for you guys to look over.

In the SDMB auction league, I have created the greatest team known to man. It’s a 10 player league and here’s my roster:

QB Aaron Rodgers
WR Andre Johnson
WR Calvin Johnson
WR Terrell Owens
RB Arian Foster
RB Jahvid Best
TE Tony Gonzalez
K Neil Rackers
DEF Pittsburgh

And bench

Peyton Hillis, Ronnie Brown, Dwayne Bowe, Jacoby Jones, Kellen Winslow, Mohamed Massaquoi, Minnesota D.

Yes, look at it in awe. LOOK AT IT!

So anyway, there are only two RB slots, and I’ve got Foster, Best, Hillis, and Brown, and any of them are quality starters. So I feel like I’ve got too much talent sitting on my bench.

So the weakest part of my roster is probably TE. Gonzo has been okay this year but nothing great. So I decided to throw some offers around to see if I could land Gates, Clark, or Finley. No one was going to take Ronnie Brown for any of those guys. But I did get this offer.

I give up Jahvid Best and Tony Gonzalez and get back Antonio Gates and Carnell Williams.

Now… Jahvid Best is a lot to give up. He’s the #4 scoring RB so far. And it’s not like his situation has been great - his team has played from behind, also behind a journeyman QB, and he’s produced. So I don’t see his situation getting any worse. Kevin Smith being healthy will barely cut into his time. So I think he could very well be a top 4-7 type RB this season.

On the other hand, Gates has gone absolutely nuts. He’s the 5th scorer in all of fantasy football. He’s 20-30 points ahead of the next TEs. However, will his pace keep up? If V-Jax doesn’t get traded, he’s not going to sit the whole year, right? So Gates’ role may go down. Plus defenses are going to start putting their best CB on him at this rate I’d imagine.

Of course this deal works for me… if I can count on Peyton Hillis to come in and put in scoring in the same ballpark as Best… maybe 80% as much. All signs point to that happening - Hillis has played some very solid run Ds and produced. Will he go back to splitting carries with Harrison? They split carries when Harrison was healthy, but Harrison didn’t get a single touch last week even though he was active. I’m pretty convinced that Mangini will use any excuse he can get to keep the ball away from Harrison. So can Hillis hold up, hold the job, and produce numbers 80% as good as Best? IOW, am I better off with Foster/Best/Gonzo with Hillis on the bench, or Foster/Hillis/Gates? I’d still have Ronnie Brown on the bench if anything happened to those players - he’s not going to be top 10 this year it looks like, but he’s not bad.

What about the other players? I don’t mind giving up Gonzo since I’d never start him. Is Cadillac Williams worth anything as a backup QB?

Anyway, this is a pretty big trade, tell me what you think.

Caddy is worth absolutely nothing as backup QB. Slightly more as backup RB, but probably wouldn’t get off your bench unless you got some injuries. Is it a PPR league? If so, I say take the offer anyway. Gates gives you the top TE and your RB corps is still pretty strong, as long as Hills continues to play the way he has been.

My Arian Foster and Rapistberger for DeAngelo Williams and Tom Brady. I’m fine with selling high on Foster, and he’s #1 right now. My starting quarterback is Eli, so I could really use an upgrade there.

Don’t like it. Mossless Brady will be very good but not great. Foster isn’t a fluke. Have you tried getting a better QB in a deal for Foster?

He’s also got Rogers.

Don’t trade for Cadillac. Besides, having talent to pick from means you can play matchups better. The only thing you should be looking to do is to upgrade yourself at a position, but you don’t really need to. You already have depth, so screw it. Stay put unless there’s a player you really want.

Wow, gratz on the team. One of my league members had almost the perfect draft this season:

  1. AP
  2. Peyton Manning
  3. Antonio Gates

Yours is probably better though thanks to foster, best, and pitt D…all of them were valued lower than how they performed this year.

Sounds like a good deal, although I wouldn’t want Carnell either. I would say Best straight up for Gates is a good deal but that leaves you with Tony. Maybe there’s someone else he can give instead of Carnell that would be more useful to you? I think you need a WR while AJ is beat up.

Wow I wouldn’t trade Arian for that. He is the #1 RB in fantasy right now, while Brady is ~5th among qb’s. Put it another way, I am thinking about making an offer for Arian with Calvin Johnson and MJD. I think Ben would be a fine starting QB after next week, and you’ll get a full 12 weeks out of him since his bye is passed. My wife has Brady, and he’s had 2 disgustingly poor outings so far, the 2 td effort vs the Jets and the 1 td effort vs the Fins. Deangelo looks to be having a terrible season as well.

Yeah I ended up taking the trade. Cadillac Williams is barely a factor in the trade - I’ll probably end up dropping him for the first good waiver claim I find. It’s just that the guy has no other TE, so I need to send him my TE… which means either he drops a player, or throws in his crap in the trade. It’s almost a total non-factor.

I had the first, fourth, and eighth scoring RBs and that just seemed like a waste with only being able to start 2 RBs, especially since I had a competant backup as a 4th RB. So now I have the #3 QB, 2 top 10 WRs, the 1st and 8th RB, number 1 TE, number 3 kicker, and number 2 defense.

Powerhouse.

Gratz.

I need to do better research preseason. I’m getting killed this year because I didn’t know enough about Arian and Jahvid and I could have gotten either of them instead of addai (although Addai is currently my best RB thanks to a Garrard and MJD.)

I feel good about my pick of Jamaal Charles though. I’m pretty sure he’s going to be a monster for me when it counts…in the FF playoffs.

What tipped you off about arian and best?

Who do you play in the flex with PPR? In one league, I’m playing Hakeem Nicks (I expect him to get around 5 catches, 60 yards, .5 td’s) while in another league my usual choice is Addai (80 yards, 1 td.)

This youtube video is why I drafted Best on a lot of teams.

Foster performed well when had some starts at the end of last season. It was clear that Slaton had fallen out of favor in Houston and with Tate injured, that left Foster as a pretty clear starter. He’s fairly talented and more importantly the situation he’s in is pretty favorable. I didn’t expect him to be the best RB in the league like he has been so far, but top 5 wasn’t out of the question. I almost snagged him in two leagues except he went one pick ahead of me in round 4 in the all pro draft.

Best is just an obvious high upside sort of talent, and he went into a situation where he was clearly the guy. Detroit would be playing from behind a lot, which isn’t generally good for running backs, except Best is exactly the sort of running back you want to get out in space on a pass. Calvin Johnson would open up the field for Best to get a lot of dump off passes in space, and Best has the talent to break big ones.

Rookies in general, especially RBs, go underdrafted. People stick too much with what happened last year and don’t want to take much of a risk on an unknown.

Sigh, yep, that’s me. :frowning:

It’s so hard to predict an o-line like houston’s this year. :frowning:

Houston’s O-line did seem to be inadequate for putting up big rushing numbers, but when you have such a successful passing game it masks that. But… I don’t know if they’ve made changes, or if Foster is a better match than Slaton for their blocking, but they’ve been plowing D-lines this year whenever I’ve watched them.

Uh… that was really good blocking, not a great run. He didn’t break any tackles and he didn’t make anyone miss.
