I like to think of it as Illegitematus non tatum carborundum - Don’t let the bastards wear you down.
:dubious: You’re blurfing the ground? 10[sup]15[/sup] is tera.
I just corrected a grammar nazi. Teehee.
Happy Firday, everyone!
Sounds like a good de-boring plan, Nava. Boredom is impossible when Gnat’s around. Which reminds me, I should get around to posting the Oh Saint Muffins to my blog (they’re really Cranberry-Orange muffins, but Gnat had different ideas).
Pie, I had no idea that Aleve could affect Lithium levels. Huh. Medical trivia is a strange and wonderful thing.
{{LiLi}} Please do let me know if there’s anything I can help out with. We’re not that far away, after all.
For the doubters, I really did need more photos of the chocolate place. Honest! The fact that I also ended up bringing back a couple of truffles and absolutely had to pop into Anthropologie to pick up a few pairs of tights (and ones that were on sale, to boot) is entirely incidental. innocent whistling
Today is Big Work Potluck Day. I have brought a batch of chewy pecan-caramel brownies… I’m happy with the brownie and pecan parts, but I need to sort out a way of keeping the caramel bits from sinking to the bottom. Which, of course, means many experimental batches of brownies will ensue until I can fix the problem.
Yeah, it’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.
Blurf all you want. I’ve got an Exablurf tape drive here, and it’s running full speed. I just want a break from all of this overtime.
And the sucky weather. It’s pouring now, and there’s a forecast for “wintry mix” on Tuesday. Sounds like something to add an egg and a half cup of water to, then bake, rather than bad weather.
Paradox: I am unemployed but am mysteriously very glad it is Firday!
dotty, we’re all sending good vibes that everything comes out well!!
My sincere sympathy to all y’all in the way of the snow. We are gonna get all the rain starting at around 3 this afternoon. Appendages all crossed that nobody loses power.
I contacted a collegue yesterday to network and found out that she, also, had been laid off. Currently I am researching all the agencies in O-town and sending the new, improved resume. Hopefully, this is not an exercise in futility.
Looks like soapy needs some more {{{{{hugs}}}}}.
Tupug
that ain’t grammar, buddy, that’s spelling and/or useage. Nyah.
I’ll concede the spelling error distinction, but I have a cite. Double-dog nyah.
We had that, too, with some broccoli and pork loin a la tarra, which was a huge hit!
doggio, my Marine mentor was actually a Captain who looked barely old enough to shave. It was kinda surreal listening this this almost baby-faced lad talk about driving convoys in Iraq! But he did make it back in one piece, so there’s that. Anyway, he was giving me a sorta tutorial about terrorists. Not that he’s ever been one, but he has had a few encounters… He was very helpful.
The sent us home early - closed the command at noon. I left at 1130, ran to Food Lion for mozzarella and onion dip, then came home and brought a bunch of firewood into the garage, just in case. I had to run to CVS to pick up my sweetie’s meds - that place was a zoo, too - and I got some Bad Chinese to go, which I just finished eating. All hail heartburn!!!
Hey, has anyone ever made onion dip using soup mix and yogurt? FL was out of sour cream (except for the fat free crap) so I just bought a premade dip, but I do have the soup mix and some plain yogurt. I may try it anyway.
Latest threat: 20-30" of the evil white crap. This is not going to be a fun weekend. Saturday sorta will - we can just hang out and be bums. But Sunday will be horrible unless someone digs us out.
The kids are in Florida by now. Last night, **FCD **asked “Do you think they’ll come back?” Well, they did leave their cat and their turtle… and their jobs and clothes and stuff…
TGIF. Now, can someone kindlly do a “no snow” dance?
I forgot Oh Saint Muffins. It’s an awesome name. We’re fine, Muppet, just colds, company, diabetes stuff and more random contractions. One of Mr. Lissar’s co-workers says I don’t have to use contractions- I can say “Should not have” if I want to.
(Passes Gnat to Nava)
Baking bread (white, whole wheat, chocolate chip raisin pecan), doing laundry, and waiting for the latest batch to be out so I can have a twenty-minute nap.
Yay! The brownies have all been consumed! I was a little worried because nearly half were left untouched by the time the potluck wrapped up, but I left them out in the hopes that people might get a second wind… which apparently was the case. There were just a few left over, which my manager is bringing home to her kids.
I’m disgustingly full and consumed way more bad-for-me food than I should have, but it was goooooood. Now, if you’ll all excuse me, I’m going to go take a nap under my desk.
LiLi, you ought to smack Mr Lissar’s coworker with a wet trout.
Howdy Y’all! Four down and one to go! WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!
It’s rainin’. And rainin’. And rainin’. And rainin’. And rainin’ some more. All the creeks are at flood level. The river is at flood level. All the spillways and drainage ponds are full. There shall be floodin’. But not a major one.
I’m not worried cause even if it got to the point I couldn’t get into town, da cave is high and dry and I gots plenty of food and beerverages.
Dindin tonight shall be steak, shrimpies and sallit. I went to the Pubic Sto’ and got some steamed shrimpies on sale even. MMMMMM… I was in a shrimpies mood.
Glad you’re on the mend Dotty.
Hugs, boos, yays, woohoos, wedgies, noogies, trouts, chitlins, how you doin’s as needed.
Day 4 of my company failing to live up to promises. Grrr.
But 3 laaarge glasses of wine in I am feeling better.
Hugs to everyone that is healing/getting well/feeling down.
Mwah! Big kisses!
Wine, it’s not just for Communion anymore. Right mmmmmmmms?
We have supped. Suppin’ was good.
That is all.
We went to PapaJohn’s to pick up supper. The roads were mostly wet when we left. They were mostly white as we came home. We’re now in till the roads are cleared - Sunday, maybe? It’s coming down pretty fast now, and on the TV they just said our county is under blizzard warning. rah.
At least it didn’t sleet, so that lessens the chance of power lines coming down.
The young 'un are in FL with their friends. The area I cleared for doggie doody is under an inch or so already. I wish the critters would just do their thing in the garage, but they’re well trained. So I’ll be out shoveling whenever I take them in the yard. Ugh.
Have I mentioned that I hate snow?
Hope everything goes really well, Dotty.
Hugs for everyone who needs 'em (looks meaningfully at Soapy).
Muffins sound good, Muppet.
We have extremely wet snow - about 4 inches of the stuff. Ick. I’ve shoveled my steps and shaken snow off the shrubs that were drooping and am thinking about whether I should move my car closer to the driveway. Seems like too much work right now.
Fortunately, I still have lasagna that I can heat up and enough stuff in the pantry and freezer that I don’t urgently need to go out. And even if I did need to go out, I could walk to the store for essentials.
Off to invastigate lasagna. And maybe some wine.
GT
still waiting for the snow to start.
Blizzard of 2010 … it’s here. Bah!
FCM, I certainly think you can make dip from soup mix and plain yogurt; I’d recommend using the Greek-style but you can always strain another brand thru cheesecloth or even a coffee filter. I do think you’d need to filter it, though, cause it would be too watery.
My order from Barnes and Noble finally came in. I ordered it three weeks ago, then got an email telling me it had been shipped last Friday. I dunno why it took so long to get here from somewhere in KY, but it did. Huh, the box was a bit wet too, so I tore it open to get my books out. They weren’t wet, just COLD, fortunately! One is the complete set of Sherlock Holmes, all novels and short stories, by A. Conan Doyle, so I’m pretty excited about that. We’ve got plenty of food, too, so I guess I’m all set.
Everyone take care this weekend, please.
I thought we were supposed to just a get a little snow–it’s a snowstorm out there. I thought it was supposed to hit the mid-Atlantic states, not IL.
I’m happy–I’m home, off and plan on baking this weekend. Let it snow!
I was going to say the same thing tarra said about the dip, FCM. Yogurt will work if you filter it for a while. I usually filter it overnight.
Nice set of books, tarra. I’ve been thinking about going back to read them again.
I’ve been knitting and watching a couple of shows online. And sipping some wine. Nice quiet evening.
GT
I’m so happy you’re taking one for the team, regarding the snow.
