Well, How Is The New TV Season Going For You?

My favorite new show is Dirty Sexy Money.

I like Pushing Daisies but I think I might be really annoyed by it shortly.

We’re still watching Chuck, Reaper (I prefer the latter to the former), Life, Journeyman (barely), and Big Bang. I watch the Gordon Ramsay show when I’m on the treadmill.

Bionic Woman, Big Shots, and other shows I can’t remember are out.

I’ve also given up on Heroes. I finally admitted that I hated all of them and wanted them all to die painfully, including Hiro.

Ha! Me too, not wishing death, but bored with TV shows where the only thing to do when they’re over is guess what will happen next, because nothing that happened in that episode did anything but answer questions from the previous episode.

I like shows that keep you guessing, but not when that’s all there is.

To paraphrase from a recent New Yorker article on The Wire, scenes should elaborate on the characters rather than “lay the pipe of the plot.” We don’t know any more about any of the Heroes than we did a season ago. Learning about their powers doesn’t tell us anything about them.

YMMV

Did you make it to the second episode? It got better, and the third was good too.

Chuck and Buck fuck and suck- I thought I had dreamt that movie- what a weird one

Let’s see - I’m not thrilled by anything in particular this latest new season. That’s actually a relief, because we’re still taping it old school, and our two VCRs are just about full each week.

Still watching, but could lose at any moment -
Journeyman
Bionic Woman
Reaper
Chuck

I want to like “Journeyman,” but there’s something about the relationships of the “love quadrangle” (good term) that makes me want to slap the shit out of some people.

“Bionic Woman” - I’m really on the fence about this one. It has some real strengths, and some real cringe-worthy elements. The lead actress is so weak, but Katee is so strong. Miguel Ferrer and the blonde butchy lady are great, but the sister can FOAD.

“Chuck” - strong start, getting bored now, even with Adam Baldwin in it.

“Reaper” - strong start, getting bored now, even with sassy sidekick in it.

“Cane” - saw the pilot, didn’t bother with any more episodes. I’ve seen this before when it was called “Dallas.”

“Moonlight” - saw part of pilot, was disappointed. I’ll give it another try if you say it gets better. The friend vampire was good. Of course, I just re-watched the entire “Angel” series, so they’re up against some stiff competition in the “Vampire fights for truth, justice, and the American way in LA” category.

Agreed. I am really liking Gossip Girl. I have never seen watched anything on the WB/CW2/whatever before, either. I don’t think I would call it a light teenage soap, though; I find it surprisingly dark.

well, I’m sticking by my plan of not committing to any new serials until it is confirmed they’ve been picked up for the season. I have, however, watched a couple pilots to get the gist.

Family Guy - it really lost its edge (Star Wars episode withstanding), but still funny enough to be worth my time.

Desparate Housewives - I watched the season premiere, and realized this show just doesn’t do it for me anymore.

Curb Your Enthusiasm - so glad to have this show back. The bathroom episode was awkward, but not in the Larry David awkward.

How I Met Your Mother - soooo glad to have this show back. The New Jersey rant had me SCREAMING “Yes! GO TED!!! YEAAAAAH”

The Big Bang Theory - okay, I am a bit annoyed about the over-the-topeddness of the tall skinny nerd, but it’s hard to NOT love this show
Rules of Engagement - never thought this show was anything special, but it has its moments, so I keep watching.

Chuck - watched the pilot, thought it was lame. The Best Buy Geek Squad angle would have been more amusing if they actually DID something with it.

Everybody Hates Chris - another show I’m glad to have back. Probably the most underrated comedy on tv right now.

Aliens in America - I’m still undecided on this…it really needs to go somewhere to keep me watching.

Journeyman - I’m a big sucker for time travel stories, which is why I’m disappointed to hear that the second episode falls flat, since I thought the pilot was pretty good.

Caveman - I saw about 8 minutes of this, and not by choice. I can’t believe this show was even MADE.

Carpoolers - I gave the first episode a try, and it was lousy. I don’t know how it’s going to keep an audience.

L&O SVU - another one I’m glad to have back. Did I mention what a crush I have on Casey Novak?

House MD - I only watched the first episode so far, but it’s fun and weird seeing Dr House without his team.

Beauty & The Geek - it was cute seeing the girl geek, but this show just doesn’t hold my interest. Why can’t they just have ALL the girls be geeks???

Reaper - gave the first episode a try…I just don’t know. I have a feeling this is a show I’ll be glad I resisted when it gets cancelled.

Dirty Sexy Money - I watched the first episode expecting it to suck, and every expectation I had was wrong. This is going to be a great show, if it doesn’t get canceled first.

Kid Nation - okay, the concept seemed cool, but the outcome is lame and boring. I’m better off just watching the clips on Talk Soup

Gossip Girl - normally I wouldn’t have even looked at this show, but it just so happens that my girlfriend, who otherwise doesn’t even watch tv, has read the books this was based on, and tied me down and makes me watch every episode with her. Fortunately, it really ain’t that bad or girly. I mean, it has a character called Chuck the Rapist!

South Park - First episode was great, second episode was the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. You never can tell with this show…

Big Shots - Watched the first episode…Dirty Sexy Money does the same thing, but better.

My Name Is Earl - the jail angle is weird. I think I’m gonna do a mass watching in a couple months, rather than week to week.

The Office - What’s with making the show an hour long now? Still, I love it.

30 Rock - the only TV crush bigger than Casey Novak (ok, and Robin Shrubasky) is Tina Fey. Amazing how EVERYBODY thought this show was gonna fail, and now it has emmys!

Moonlight - all I have to say is I started a SDMB thread called “stupidest show ever?” after watching the pilot

Numbers - Friday night geekiness, yay!

Real Time With Bill Maher - the other best thing about being home Friday nights.
I’m currently watching the first episode of Criminal Minds of this season. I thought Gideon was off the show? I’m gonna give Samantha Who a try tonight, and see how it goes.

Wow, I watch WAY too much tv…

Dirty Sexy Money is the only current new show that I look forward to watching each week besides Kitchen Nightmares (US).

Private Practice is getting dull for me after a few episodes.

RE Moonlight

Yes, I have seen all 3 episodes, they are getting progressively more “eh” although I agree with a poster above that the rich vampire friend is fun. Maybe that’s the problem - every vampire show seems to have an angsty do-gooder vampire (Angel as a show made vampire angst work because it was so interlaced with humor). I would just love to see a vampire show where the vampire actually…had fun! After shows like the Sopranos, The Shield and the Wire, we might be ready for a vamp “hero” that drinks blood out of a girl, not a blood bag.

Haven’t seen too many, but the only new show I’m really enjoying so far is Pushing Daisies. Great cast, and beautiful visuals, though like many others I think they need to cut down on the narration a tad.

Reaper had probably the best pilot, but the following 2 episodes have failed to live up to the promise. I’m sticking with it for now in the hope that it gets it back.

Love Fred Willard and Kelsey Grammar in Back To You but I just cannot stand Patricia Heaton and she may just kill this show for me.

Journeyman’s on the cusp of Tivo removal for me. I like the idea, but for whatever reason, it’s just not working like I feel it should. I still have no idea of any of the character’s names except for Livia (possibly because she’s hot), the wife annoys me and it all just seems a bit simplistic at times (“Hey, I’ve just jumped back in time and there’s a guy about to be run over by a tram. I wonder what I’m supposed to be doing here?”)

I’m done with K-Ville. I was hoping for a much more gritty, depressing and preferably realistic CSI/L&O type show, but what I got was over-the-top righteous outrage, implausible characters with even more implausible plotlines, and Shakey-Cam with extreme prejudice. Plus, I just cannot buy Drew Carey’s brother as the chief of police.

I saw 5 minutes of Cavemen. Worst 5 televisual minutes of my life to date.

I’ve been enjoying Chuck, if only for Yvonne Strahovski* and Adam Baldwin (that Morgan character needs to die or something very soon). Plus, there’s nothing else on that interests me in that time slot**.

I absolutely love Pushing Daisies, and always make sure to catch it. I, for one, really like the narration.

I’d keep watching **Journeyman **, Bionic Woman and Back to You, but I keep missing them, and don’t really care.
*That’s how her name is listed on IMDb now; I could have sworn that it was spelled differently the last time I looked it up. They must have changed the spelling so that anglophones would pronounce her name more accurately.

**Yes, I remain a TiVoless savage for the time being.

Another enjoyable **Chuck ** last night. I am willing to put this in the category of Guilty pleasure, the show is silly and illogical, but it is entertaining so far.

I’m glad a few other people like the narration of Pushing Daisies, I think it gives the show an extra dose of whimsy and a faerie tale feel to it.

Off-Topic: I love your sig, where is the quote from? I recognize it, but cannot place it.

Jim

I’m enjoying Reaper, Pushing Daisies and Journeyman.

Aliens In America absolutely breaks me up, well the two episodes I’ve seen so far.

Samantha Who? warrants another look next week.

Plan to keep watching Chuck, but I can see it getting old very quickly.

I like Hot Shots, but I fast forward through scenes with certain characters because I can’t stand them. I don’t think I’ll keep watching it much longer.

I like** DirtySexyMoney**, plan to keep that one on my rotation.

Watched the pilot of **Bionic Woman ** only because I wanted to give it a shot. Hated it.
Didn’t bother with **Journeyman ** - seeing the previews told me I wouldn’t like it.

Haven’t seen any others.

The return of Friday Night Lights is the biggest thrill though. Any rumours about the return of The Riches?

Pushing Daisies is nauseating. I don’t know how people like that stuff. So cutesy.

I am watching Desperate Housewives, House MD, Boston Legal, Bones, ER.

Isn’t variety wonderful.

Did you like Northern Exposure or Dead Like Me? Not so cutesy, but a similar feel and vibe in some ways.

As mentioned, fans of Tim Burton’s visual style seem to be taking to it. I love Edward Scissorhands, if you disliked that movie, you probably would dislike “Pushing Daisies”.

Jim

The second season of The Riches will begin March 10, 2008, according to this site. I hope they don’t all turn into buffers by then.
