Well, How Is The New TV Season Going For You?

Never saw this movie… is Mr. Sneed of Seed and Feed fame in it?

By the way, another good new show with a character named Chuck: Fox’s Back to You.

I like what I’ve seen so far of Life and Journeyman. I’m not wowed, but I’m intrigued enough to stick around and see where they take it.

Dirty, Sexy Money is certainly well done, but it’s not different enough to demand my attention. I guess I’m a sucker for gimmicks this year.

Really enjoy Pushing Daisies. First episode of Samantha Who? was uneven but promising. I’ll watch Bionic Woman one or two more times before pulling the plug.

Saw Chuck twice. No thanks. I wish it had a little more Burn Notice’s spy savvy to add some oomph to the comedy.

I guess I gave up on Cane sooner than I thought. I’m normally in bed by 10pm, so I was going to record it, but I thought it would be too much trouble.

So if it’s too much trouble to press a few buttons to record a show, I guess that’s a sign the show is done for you.

I’m keeping “Pushing Daisies” and “Samantha Who?”

I’ve dumped “Bionic Woman” and “Private Practice” nad “Torchwood” (the later on BBC America).

For returning shows, it’s “Grey’s Anatomy” and “This Old House”.

And that looks to be it for TV for me this year. I gotta get a new hobby.

Cane has already started with ads saying “The episode of Cane you can’t afford to miss,” which is ludicrous for a show that’s less than one month old. I saw half the pilot, got bored and flipped the channel.

I gave up on Chuck after the pilot.

I am most upset that I have yet to see an ep of Everybody Hates Chris, and only one of Reaper. Stupid Fox/CW mixed channel! Hurry up and play the damn World Series already!

Rick Mercer Report and Little Mosque on the Prairie are maintaining their funny quotient, as is My Name is Earl. I love the whole jail theme, and last week’s ep was one of the best retcons I’ve ever come across in fiction.

MrsB is watching and enjoying Dirty Sexy Money, Big Shots aka Desperate Husbands, Private Practice, Grey’s Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters, and Gossip Girl. I’ll sit through the first two with her but I’ve got my head buried in some reading material.

I’ve caught a few eps of Bionic Woman, and that poor girl just can’t act her way out of a paper bag. If they had a better actress in the lead role, this could be a good show. Heck, if the “butchy blonde” (Ruth Treadwell) were the lead, it’d be a better show.

I still like Pushing Daisies, mostly because it is so ridiculously over the top. Gun cozies? Chinese Civil War heroes? Sword fights? I love it.

Unfortunately I haven’t caught much that’s on around 8 pm… that’s bedtime for the Hordling.

**Shows which I watched one episode or less and then jettisoned: **

Cavemen – I want my 6 minutes back.

Carpoolers and Pushing Daisies – just not to my taste.

Journeyman – wanted to like it, but found I didn’t care about any of the characters enough to watch the second episode.

Chuck – kind of liked it, but I liked Reaper better and felt that I only needed one show about cute young slackers saving the world.

Private Practice – I don’t watch Grey’s Anatomy, so I only tuned into this show for Tim Daly. I hated (really, literally, hated) every other character on the show. That redheaded woman? Most irritating actress I’ve seen since Meg Ryan. And Tim, cute as he is, is not cute enough for me to stomach watching his character peddle new age snake oil. Really, is it too much to ask for a show in which Tim Daly plays a Joe Nickell-esque character who travels around skeptically investigating paranormal phenomenon and romancing women? Frequently with his shirt off? Is that too much to ask?

Shows which I liked the pilot, but which I’m losing interest in:

Reaper – I’m still watching it, but probably not for long. I like the devil; I like the goofy sidekick; I like the premise… but the execution has been lacking in the last few episodes.

Bionic Woman – About the best that can be said is that I don’t hate it. I like the Bad Bionic Woman; and I like Butchy Ruth…

Shows I really like and would be disappointed if they get cancelled:

Life – This one I like a lot. Love Damian Lewis; love the partner; love Adam Arkin. My favorite new show of the season.

Big Bang Theory – Funny show.

Samantha Who? – Only the pilot has aired, but I really liked it.

Old shows I’m continuing to enjoy:

Bones, Cold Case, Two & a Half Men, Survivor

Old shows which are better this season than last:

I think both My Name is Earl and House had slumped a bit last season. Both are starting out strong this season, though.
