Well, it's .. sorry, what year is it? MMP

Snowed most of the night again, but the sky is clearing this morning and the plows are busy on the streets.

The Ms. awoke with a backache, which is getting worse as the day progresses. Just what we don’t need at this point. She’s very stubborn about what one should do for this sort of problem, and doesn’t listen to my “ice, then heat, and a course of anti-inflammatory meds.”

My part of Sacramento seems to have been fortunate that way. SMUD is reporting less than 1500 customers without power (which is better than it’s been since NYE). My own utilities didn’t even flicker, so far as I can tell. OK, so all the prep stuff I’ve been fixated on for the last few days appears to have been more my anxiety issues at play.

We’re still not totally done with this yet, though. I did sleep in, since I slept very badly night before last and needed to catch up. Wind has calmed down a bit, it’s pouring rain right now (isn’t going to do those weakened trees a lot of good). We’re expected to catch a break in weather tomorrow, but another storm system is due over the weekend.

Allie was fussing for me to open the patio door for her, so I did. She flinched away from it, ears back. She wasn’t thrilled about me laughing at her reaction, either. She’s been a bit grumpy the last few days. Buddy’s his usual self. Insisted on going outside this morning during a break in the weather, came in before DH left for work, and is now curled up on the bed.

I hope you’re going to be OK, and thanks for the clarification. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was concerned.

Both my new ones do have that feature (the older one DH unearthed is too old to have that), but I haven’t tested it. I also do own a couple of those cute car jump-starter power banks and they have USB output as well. One of those is in the living room (plugged in to make sure it’s full), DH insists on keeping the other in the car. Radios, phone and tablet, and smaller phone battery boosters are all plugged into wall power to make sure batteries stay topped up. When the car’s home, we also do have the option of charging from the 12v port in it (and yes, I know, running the car just to charge electronics is inefficient at best. If we’re driving somewhere anyway, though, might as well charge up while we’re there).

I do live rather close to both a hospital and a fire station, so that might be helpful if there are outages in this area.

I slept in :). Not as windy as yesterday, but not totally calm, woke up to pouring rain that does seem to have eased up in the last half-hour.

I think you sent it our way. It started snowing about half an hour ago, and now it’s SNOWING if you grok the difference.

God, I…I’m so lonely. I haven’t had a valentine for the past 17 years…I-I need one…

I’m married and old enough to be your mother, but have some hugs, {{{CorpusNeptune}}}.

Wind seems to be picking up a little, rain’s eased up a little since I got up. Hope the guessers are right about tomorrow being a break in the weather. We could use it.

nettie Better to have the stuff and not need it than the other way 'round.

shoe Love the lemon story.

Short day at work today, the guy I’m working for right now got the 'rona last weekend, so that limited the stuff I can do as a lot of it requires his input. And I’ve been told that I work too quickly for them to come up with enough for me to do. So, yay me?

Afternoon all. Made the Tennessee run and have $20 worth of very long odds numbers for Firday’s Lotto drawing. Then gassed up car and came on home, and thinking about heading for the gym here in a bit, we’ll see. Bright day outside, temp is near 60F, so far it has been a mild January.

shoe, both tears and hugs; sound like both are appropriate. And good timing on the rain, I’ve had a few moments like that, more often ended up soaked.

Godbod, haven’t got a valentine in over 50 years as I remember, but you are young (I was too, some time ago) so https://mcauliffebirdwatch.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/valentines.jpg

Nettie, being prepared and not needing it is much better than not being prepared and suddenly needing it; trust me on that one. Hnag in there.

Cookie, hope Wife-unit’s backache gets better; I have one that occurs only now and then, but when it does… :grimacing:

nellie, listen to shoe; that’s some good advice there.

OK, need to go to bank to cancel a check (been a month and not cashed, so paid the bill via direct transfer and now need to cancel the check (and pay the fee…). Probably go over to the gym to work out my frustration. Take care all.

Howdy Y’all! Been a nice slothful day here at da cave. We have accomplished nappage and day drinkin’. ‘Tis a pleasant N.O.S. day here so we day drank out on the back porch. In a bit I shall start the makeage of sup. I pulled a poke shoulder outta da freezer last night to begin the thaw out process. It shall be cooked in the slow cooker/roaster oven thingy and turned into ‘cue for first Sunday brunch this (duh!) Sunday. We’ll also do a chawklit with chawklit pee-kahn frostin’ sheetcake and, of course, make sweet and unsweet tea. We may or may not de-clutter closets tomorrow. It is a thing that needs doin’ but we are motivated toward bein’ lazy retired bums.

shoe hope whatever it is resolves quickly and you are able to move on from it and get on with life. Loved the lemon blossom story.

GodBod as you get older, I am sure it will all get better. Still sucks that you feel so sad right now. Hang in there.

MOOOOOOM hope all goes well with daughter’s meetin’. Good idea to have her make the list. Also, was it not the last headmistress who wanted your daughter to take over the position? The guy sounds like an egotistic, narcissistic fool.

Cookie hope the wife’s back is feelin’ better soonest.

Nettie glad everything is still good so far. It’s always a good thing to be prepared. Ask any Boy Scout.

Nellie you could be like Hyacinth Bucket (it’s pronounced Boo-Kay!) and offer tea and light refreshments.

Actually, he had wanted her to take the job. But my daughter thinks he expected her to be a clone of the last head, and she’s not.

Home with the kids in about 40 minutes, I get to start supper. Till then, it’s Blaze and the Monster Machines. Rah.

I’m sure DBIL (was an Eagle, has been a scoutmaster (which is how he met his wife)) would agree with you.

I believe the atmospheric river just began flowing over our house. Strong rain, wind gusts.

Howdy Y’all! We have supped and cleanded the kitchen. It was a whirlwind of activity, but we survived. Now we continue to be the ne’er do well, layabout retirees everyone knows and loves.

Lily batten down the hatches and stay safe.

Thanks. Should be fine, and we have candles and wool socks aplenty.

All y’all looking at power outages, I’d recommend oil lamps. I’ve got a couple at my house, and they were very helpful on Christmas eve when we lost power at my folk’s house. Plus, they’re just kinda cool.

I have cats who get the zoomies and/or chase each other around during squabbles, so I’m not sure anything involving flame is safe around them. Those who don’t have such pets would probably find them useful.

I have discovered I probably need to find smaller plastic storage tubs for emergency supplies. The 13-gallon ones I currently have are a little rough on the back to move around when loaded.

Got one in the garage, plus a variety of other light sources and powerbanks.

Trying to decide if Amazon’s really making a profit from me this week, as heavily as I’m using that Prime membership. I’m quite sure my annual fee more than pays for itself in shipping costs.

Pricing camp stove stands on Amazon, yeah, I think we’re going with cinderblock. Must commune with DH on what he thinks is going to be an effective approach there.

Decided to go with a reusable coffee filter thingie, which can be lined with paper towel (I always have lots of those on hand) if needed for better filtration.

Needed a couple of household items anyway, so took care of that.

Current weather forecasts think we’ll be done with rain for a day or two after about 7pm-ish, at least until about Saturday morning.

If you want to get fancy, here’s one of our big purchases a number of years ago.

Poor Daughter had one long-ass meeting but she’s pleased with the results. She and the complainant came to an understanding. She made it clear that he needed to talk to her about things that concerned him. She also pointed out that some of his complaints were invalid as he didn’t know the whole situation because what was done didn’t enter into his area of responsibility.

He was also demanding that one of the teachers be fired, while Daughter felt she’s actually doing a really good job. He has no teaching background, apart from his 6 years at that school - he’s retired USAF. Daughter also thinks it’s a personality clash - he’s very right wing, the teacher in question is at the other end of the spectrum. And some attitude comes into play, so Daughter suggested that each day, he say something positive to that teacher.

Bottom line, he’s agreed to stay at least till the end of the school year and they’ve established working guidelines for both of them. Having the former head there as a moderator apparently helped a lot. I gotta say, I’m proud of my baby girl - she must have gotten her management skillz from her dad or maybe my dad, because I couldn’t have done what she does.

I’m home alone again. The quiet is wonderful. I’ll have the kids again tomorrow - SIL has to work, and Daughter has a late meeting with prospective parents - that is, parents of a prospective student - so I’ll take her kids to her house and wait for her to get home.

FCD was here for a couple of hours. He showed me a video of his dad calling out for Jerry. No one knows who Jerry is - MIL doesn’t recall the name from former coworkers or church friends. I didn’t get much of a chance to talk with him, but his mom wants to keep the meds to a minimum hoping he has lucid moments. But without the meds, he hallucinates a lot. She keeps hoping he’ll improve - I think that’s a futile hope.

On the plus side, over the holidays from Thanksgiving on, when I was less than diligent with my food intake, I still gained only 6#, and I’ve already shed 4 of them. For some reason, being here more or less alone I can control my food intake better. So I’ve got that going for me.

Meanwhile, I’m whipped. I’m going to read till my eyes won’t stay open, then off to bed with me.

Why does the good news always come with bad news? Grumbles.

NOOOO! This is good prep work, the weird weather is not going to go away and those same supplies can be used for many other emergencies.

May I suggest that when you know you will be able to get more propane that you actually cook a meal with your camp stove. Camp stoves are fairly easy to use, but it is always better to practice with your tools when you are not under stress. Plus, it will give you a better idea as to what you might need.

I know it wouldn’t be the same, but you know a bunch of old farts who would happily send you a funny valentines day card if we had your address.

You probably don’t want to hear my old fart advice…which is that you are young and have many years in front of you. You don’t need to hurry into romance and marriage, you need to do what you think is right for you not what society expects. Oh, and always ALWAYS have safe sex.

I LOVE oil lamps, they give off such a comforting light. Like Nette, we have cats so don’t use fire in the house.

Have you noticed that I have been keeping my mouth shut. There is a good reason.

Enjoy the quiet. I’m so sorry for FCD and MIL.

It was cloudy and felt like rain this morning, but the sky cleared and it got up to the low 60s, so I did some yard clean up. The yard flock was very annoyed, they didn’t care about the weeds, why am I bothering with them during breakfast time?

I can see the storms moving in, it will probably get wet tonight. Hubs put some stakes and string along our property line in the hopes of keeping the water company guys on their side of their easement or to at least be able to show damages in the before and after pics when they are done.

Somehow I got sucked into volunteering to write a couple of grants for the local Meals on Wheels. I haven’t done such a thing for over 15 years and most of my work contacts have moved on or retired, so it is going to be all new again.

I have a meeting with the community center folks in a couple of weeks and I can already tell that our goals are not the same. Everyone has their own pet projects that need funding. I am willing to volunteer some of my time, not ALL of my time. I have feta cheese to make and cats to play with.
