Well, it's .. sorry, what year is it? MMP

Didn’t wake at 3 this morning - made it to nearly 4:30! WOOHOO!!

Even tho it’s Firday and it should be my day off, SIL is working, so I’ve got Tobias and I’ll be picking up Roxy after school.

Yesterday, I did something I’ve never done before - I gave a stranger a ride. While I was filling my car, a woman approached and asked if I could take her to Rt 247, which was about 3 miles down the road. She had an arm in a cast and was pregnant, and even tho her story seemed a tad off, I agreed. (She claimed she’d been to her “bone doctor” and needed to catch the bus, which ran on 247. I know that is a route of one of the buses, but there were no “bone doctors” anywhere near the WaWa. In fact, the closest non-animal medical person would be the dentist about 2 miles north…)

And, of course, she asked if I had any spare change for bus fare. I don’t typically have much cash on me, but there were a few coins in the tray in the car, so I let her have them - maybe a buck? I was able to pull into a parking lot to let her out and I went on my way. If she was working some kind of scam, she wasn’t likely to find any targets in 247 - but she did have a real cast on her arm and a real pregnant belly, so at least part of her story tracked.

Our spate of fake spring is over - we’re back to more or less normal temps for this time of year. But I have gone 3 or 4 days (time has become meaningless) without having to add pellets to the stove, so that’s nice. I’ll need to bring in a bag today.

I talked to FCD on the phone before I went to bed. His dad isn’t eating or drinking anything. He’s on morphine and something else that I can’t recall. I have in the back of my mind that a person can’t survive more than 3 or 4 days without water, so I’m guessing the end is really near unless something amazing happens. MIL is hoping for something amazing - she doesn’t want to lose him. But I think she knows…

OK, it’s nearly 7. I need to finish reading my morning funnies, then empty the dishwasher before SIL brings the toddler tornado. That kid hates to see open anything - last time I tried putting dishes away while he was here, he kept closing the dishwasher! I worry that he’ll start to think his name is Tobias - NO!

Anyway, quick surf before the day begins. Happy Firday!!!

Good morning.

It’s currently 45 degrees, with an expected high of 52. The day will consist of mainly clouds with the occasional rain shower.

I’ve been awake since 2:00 am and out of bed since about 2:45. Fun times. I also had to take the garbage down to the curb because the husband forgot to do so, and it’s full. Garbage pick-up is today.

Mom, I’m so happy that your daughter could stand up for herself and impressed with how well she did it!

shoe, I’m sorry to read about your misadventure and hope everything can be sorted soonest.

nellie, I’m glad the prognosis is good for Old Flame’s daughter.

Polar continued to have issues yesterday, and I wasn’t sure if he was trying to recover from the bath and stairs trauma or if something else was going on. He collapsed on the floor going to his water dish, but he’s been having real issues on bare floors. He just wasn’t himself yesterday, although he ate and drank. He refused to come upstairs to “work” with me. I ended up signing out of work at around 10:00 am so I could keep an eye on him. I will continue to watch him. I can’t believe he would have gone downhill this fast after his blood panels came back normal.

Well, I should finish my coffee and clean up the kitchen. I’ve already taken chicken thighs out of the freezer to defrost. I’ll cook them up later, and they will become Polar’s dinner for the next few days. Other than that, I have to work, but I may sign out early. I have some things I need to take care of, and I’d rather do it today.

OK, got the dishwasher emptied, got the cat box scooped, and got the pellet stove filled. SIL is on the way with Tornado Tobias.

I was remiss earlier, but {{{shoe}}} - I can’t even imagine!! But rest assured, even tho you’re an ex-con (wait - not convicted, right?) I’ll still be your friend.

Seriously, I hope the mess gets sorted out, and you know we’re all here for you and will help however we can!

I know I missed other things I meant to say - I apologize for being an occasionally thoughtless Mumper and I’ll try to be better.

“Hey, that’s MY chair! I was sitting there!”
“I don’t see your name on it!”

I’m an only child and even I’m familiar with the script.

Nuthin’ but I appreciate the sentiment.

Okay, those both made me laugh.

See title of thread.

You’re in good company.

(Former) grant writers comin’ out of the Mumper woodwork!

It’s the little triumphs in life.

What happened to “retired”?

You did a good thing for someone plainly in need of help. Good on ya.

That’s kinda awesome - sounds like he won’t grow up to be one of those people who leaves every cabinet and drawer open when they get something out of it. (Former roommate, I’m mentally glaring in your direction.)

Oh, hon, I am so sorry.

Sometimes they go kinda fast.

{{ Taters and Polar }}

Well, that was GG-worthy!

Monkey was playing with his stuffed rat, flipping it into the air & batting it around, when … he tossed it directly into the trash can.

Now he’s standing next to it, looking somewhat confused.

“Where the hell did it go?”

Morning all. A brisk 37F when I stepped out to get my newspaper, only getting to 54F today but at least no rain (hope all the soaked areas get some respite). Need to get my new shoes from the store today and do swimmin’ -n- sauna but outside of that and maybe some house cleaning (yeah, right) nothing much is on the agenda.

shoe, looks like it was sheer bad luck you got stopped and picked up, but police stuff never goes away and hopefully things will work out–did you get a court date or was it all handled by the Judge you saw? Oh, and

Me too.

Now get that Driver’s License renewed, lady!!!

FCM, I’m pretty leery these days about giving strangers rides, but sounds like it was someone in real need, hope they got to where they were going.

{{{Taters and Polar}}}

OK, need to forage and get dressed for the Great Outdoors. All y’all take care.

JtC, your writing skills are wonderful…and funny. Good luck on the grant paperwork.

Neat. Virtual Railfan has cameras in Ashland, VA and LaGrange, KY where trains run right through the middle of the town.

{{Sari}}.

OK, need to get myself dressed for the Great Outdoors and then forage for edibles, so everyone take care now.

sari, I hope that all of your boys (sahson, Ripple and Cerby) are feeling 100% soonest.

shoe, I’m another who would contribute to a fund to straighten out your legal woes.

Moooooooom, your Tobias, NO comment reminded me of a record that my granddad used to play: Dammit Ray . Since he’s stopped taking fluids, it likely won’t be long for your FIL. Mom did that a few days before she passed.

{{{Polar and taters}}}

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped / mattress rotated, a load of towels / sheets in the dryer, a load of jeans in the wash and everything else on deck. I’ll do KP and housecleaning soon, then take off for the clerk’s office for my DL.

It has returned to the regularly scheduled January today, being 28F when I took Nelson out. Brrrrrrrrr!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I’m trying not to be angry, trying to understand, but MIL won’t let FCD give his dad his meds because they knock him out and she wants him lucid. But he’s not and he won’t be. She’s clinging to a non-existent hope.

What I further don’t understand is how someone whose life was so intertwined with her faith doesn’t accept this and let him go to heaven.

Grief and fear, no doubt, are stronger than everything right now.

red - I do hope the end is at hand.

Shorter heav today, I guess we’ve worked through the holiday backlong.

{{{{Taters and Polar}}}}

Happy is today Thorsday or Firday?

Happy Friday!

No park today, I slept through multiple alarms.
Usually, my son will holler up at me if he doesn’t hear me moving around, but he didn’t this morning.
Cerby woke me by laying on my head.

Cerby also woke me at 130 am barking his fool head off at the back door.
I thought I should get up to check it out, but then I thought no, if anybody is stupid enough to try to come through the door with Cerby on guard, they deserve what they get.
Then Echo came in the bedroom with an annoyed look on her face, jumped on the bed, curled up and went back to sleep.
I figured Echo went down to see what the commotion was all about, saw that Cerby was acting the ass again, and came back to bed.

Then my son woke me at 313 to come get him.

It’s no wonder I’m so tired today.

Ripple’s wound looks really bad today.
It seemed to be shrinking, today it looks huge.
It doesn’t seem to be bothering him.

I’m sorry you went through all that {{{Shoe}}}.
It sucks. All over a little ticket.
It happened to my son’s father over missing the court date for a ticket.
I had to post bail for him though.

{{{Taters and Polar}}}
It could just be an off day.

I didn’t mean to hit reply.

At least Tobias wants stuff closed, FCM.
Niece1 wanted everything empty.
She would open drawers and doors and take everything out and line it up on the floor.
I’m sorry for all the FIL drama you are going through.
I’m glad your daughter was able to handle the incident with professionalism. Congrats to her.

Cerby is Lyme free.
Can I have margaritas instead of pina coladas?

I’m not doing a very good job with my plants lately.
I feel bad for them.

I got a copy of my mother’s trust yesterday. I took it out of the envelope, glanced over it, and put it back into the envelope.
It’s much more extensive than mine. My brain isn’t up to it right now.

I need to get up and start doing some stuff, I guess. Clothes won’t put themselves away. Dishes won’t put themselves away. Da jungle subscribe and save won’t put itself away.
I can’t believe it’s Friday already. The week went by too fast.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/46f with a predicted high of 8annabitc/47f, and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s is dark, fucking overcast, and shitty outside”. I can’t tell, it’s getting dark. Anyway, it’s been a bit grim and gloomy all day.

Moooom I’m so pleased to hear Daughter stood up for herself, sounds like everything went her way in the end. Also sorry to hear about MIL and the meds, I thought she’d been told about reducing or removing them. I get that she wants every last possible bit of time with him but she’s not doing him any favours at all. Just makes everything more difficult.

{{{{{Taters and Polar}}}}}

GodBod Valentine’s Day isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. It’s one of those days that’s important to you young 'uns but when you get to be old and cynical like me, you just don’t bother about it. To be fair, I still exchange cards with 'im indoors but it’s not something we “celebrate”. There’s quite often a card exchange on the Dope though, you could get involved in that and swap cards with a bunch of random invisible friends

shoe I’m so sorry about the Horribly Crappy Thing, that’s a real trauma for something as harmless as an unpaid parking fine. What an awful experience, no wonder you were so shaken up about it. I hope your boss was sympathic. Loved the lemon blossom story though, what a beautiful sentiment.

My irk day has gone better than expected, I’ve had a couple of small victories so I’m logging out in a minute before something nasty happens! No plans for tonight apart from a cocktail and a film…then up early for the gym tomorrow.

Shoe, so sorry!

Wife’s back is marginally better this AM. Mine is much better. Must-do errands today now that the snow has stopped and the plows have been at work, including picking up our police report for the check fraud, getting cat food (Chewy delivery is late), and a few grocery necessities.

Breakfast burritos this morning. The medium green salsa from Costco is really good. We’re now converts from the Herdez brand.

Christmas tree comes down tomorrow, and everything goes into the storage locker for another year. Then we have to resume getting shit put away, hung on walls, or otherwise disposed of.

They put you in jail for a three year old traffic ticket? That is ridiculous! I’ve heard of real crimes having people let out on their own recognizance.

Does she even understand what HOSPICE is? I know it can be very difficult for some to understand, and accept, though. Maybe she’s got a little dementia going on, and she can’t wrap her mind around it? I wish you ALL the very best.

What a fucking joke. Jail over one stinkin’ traffic ticket, JFC.

Hehehehe.

I’ll bet you could if you wanted to. I’m making a list of questions and each question reminds me of other things I’m going to need to know. Government paperwork doesn’t change much, what was required 20 years ago will still be required today along with a bunch of other stuff.

Poor guy and poor you. Sometimes they go so quickly.

I’m blushing over here

Sighs. That poor woman and poor FCD. I’m agreeing with the others that it probably won’t be long now, so at least she isn’t causing long term damage by withholding his meds.

It rained last night but has cleared up nicely. The sun is out, the birds are singing and the neighbor’s cat just got a bath.

I saw him hiding by one of the bird feeders and filled up a gallon sized pitcher with water, then managed to sneak up close enough that when he started to look around, I threw the water in front of him right in time for him to run into the water as he ran away from me. I need to hook up my turn-on-the-sprinkler thing again cause I doubt I’ll be able to sneak up on him like that again.

Howdy Y’all! The things got done and we went to the hog trough GC for N.O.L. Then we returned to da cave for nappage. Then we day drank. Such an excitatin’ day! ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. so we sat on the back porch for day drinkin’ time.

MOOOOOOM it does sound like the end is near. If FIL is takin’ morphine, then not givin’ it to him will make him be in pain. I hope FCD is able to give him the meds. MIL just needs to understand that.

{{{Taters and Polar}}} hope he’s doin’ better today.

shoe poor Monkey! It’s funny though.

JtC glad you got to the cat before he got to the birdies.

Cookie glad y’all are doin’ better today.

sari glad Cerby is lyme free.

I joked to The Missus that by the time the ground is prepared and a base is built for the greenhouse I bought her for Christmas, that it’s going to end up costing a thousand dollars. I told her, ‘Merry Christmas.’ The landscaper came by today, and said he could build a flat area for $700. So $1,091 for the ground levelling and gravelling, and the greenhouse itself. Plus I need to build a frame and floor. :stuck_out_tongue:

ETA: I suggested we go down to the bar for rib-eyes, or warm up the leftover prime rib for dinner tonight. The Spousal Unit said we should go out to the Schnitzel house in Everson, and she’ll pay. Sounds good to me!

Man, I’d forgotten how hard it is to keep up with this thread when I’m working!

Not much goin’ on here in lovely Northern Virginia. The weather has been ridiculously mild, but it’s supposed to be cold tonight/this weekend. Nowhere near as bad as early January could be, though.

This was my first week as a member of my NAACP branch’s Executive Committee (in addition to still being on the Legal Redress Committee). So. Many. Emails. :open_mouth: I’m still happy about it, though. The first EC meeting will be in a couple of weeks, and I was featured – along with two other EC members – in this morning’s branch newsletter.

A week ago I registered online to play spring softball with a county organization (and paid), but I never got a confirmation email so today I exchanged a few emails with the director. I’d requested a spot on a coed senior league team, but after learning more about the different leagues and the nights of play I decided I’d rather join the coed social league. The director made the switch for me, and I’m hoping to get assigned to a team in a couple of months (registration closes on 3/3). :crossed_fingers:

Bailey has been alternately pacing and staring at me for almost a half hour: time to wrap up these replies and take her outside, then get some dinner going for each of us!

There are two nearby, so…yeah.

When my brother and I were little, we went to a petting zoo and a goat ate the end of his belt! While he was wearing it! Traumatized him a little. (The brother, that is; not the goat. Heh.)

Right on! I discovered Maiden around '86 and have loved them ever since. Bruce has one of my favorite voices. I’ve seen them in concert a couple of times, and I have the Lord Iffy Boatrace books.

I find that I want to type the same thing about both of these:

OMG… :two_hearts: :people_hugging:

That made me laugh out loud.
