Thanks - it’s just a tad stressful these days. Having to cancel to getaways is just the poop icing on the crap cake. It’ll get better, but not fast enough to suit me.
I suppose if there’s one good thing about FCD not being here - I don’t have to put up with the gazillionth rerun of Major Crimes. I honestly don’t understand how he can watch it over and over - it’s not like the acting is that great. No TV - just quiet so I can read. That works. In fact, that’s where I’m headed now.
Heh, FCM I was back visiting the folks for X-mas and they watched some Midsomar Murders. It was a lot of bad acting and predictable plot pints. So good on ya for avoiding the Major crimes debacle.
Now I’m off to watch the garbage that is Curse of Oak Island. Can’t help it, I love watching the Vagina, sorry Lagina, brothers flounder around.
seanette, the hot hands were what we used when I irked in a restaurant supply warehouse and would go into the freezer section (-10F). They work for that purpose. Stay safe.
sari, have you considered asking your PCP or PT provider for a temporary handicap placared for the truck? I grew up with rough collies and collie / GSD mixes. They would do the yip-yip thing sometimes.
{{{yank}}} Glad your daughter dumped the d-bag.
metal mouse, if I’m going to drink a cola, Coke Zero or diet Pepsi tend to be my faves. Of course, the only time that I have a sugared soda is if my BG drops. I keep some Mexican cokes in the fridge for that.
Got drenched this morning taking Nelson out for his bio break. I need to get a rain poncho, given that I won’t even attempt handling both an umbrella and leash. Irked, came home, had toast, tea and scrambled aigs for supper, since I had some belly issues today.
Back from getting shots and the gym. The shots don’t hurt too bad. And MetalMouse, I’m more like Wonder Walrus. I can tell I gained weight because my clothes are tighter. Hopefully no more surgeries for a long time so I don’t have to lie around getting blubberier and blubberier.
I also cleaned out the fridge, my least favorite chore. So won’t have to do THAT for another few years. (I kid.)
Yank, hope you feel better fast. Glad your daughter is no longer with the jerkish guy. By dumping her, he proved himself unworthy of her. That’s how I prefer to view such things.
sari, I was unaware dogs could get Lyme disease. Huh. Hope Cerbs just has a pulled muscle or something minor and temporary.
red, hope your tummy stops feeling crummy.
Nettie, best of luck, and keep in touch if you can. I feel like we’re sending you into battle.
Another last-second supply run, and I just barely got home ahead of some heavy rain. Wind is picking up quite a bit, too.
Added a few more battery-operated lights to my arsenal. All three are small, but have great light output (LEDs are great that way) and they’re kinda cute.
Current conditions, according to KCRA’s weather page, showery and sustained wind is 25mph, gusts as high as 44mph reported. We’re expecting 30-40mph overnight, gusts over 55mph, with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms. Trees are already coming down and I saw reports of a couple of brief power outages already.
Evening all. Since I ate lunch late today, went to the gym for swimming-n-sauna after 5pm and ate dinner at 7:30. Did another blind taste test, Diet Pepsi-No Caffeine came out ahead of Diet Pepsi, with Pepsi Zero in the rear. Still have the majority of the two liter bottle’s left, so the testing will go into the weekend, but Diet Pepsi is easier to get in 12-packs, so if it stays near the top, that’s what I’ll go with. Goal is to finish off the Regular Pepsi pre-vacation and start the calorie-free stuff once I return.
Seanette, stay safe. Looks like the whole West Coast is getting drenched these last couple of days.
FCM, seldom watch all that much TV, when I was with my Brother and his family, he kept putting up movies, one after another, for nearly 3 days. And he wonders why his weight is so high…but I do sympathize a little with him, for me it’s not a TV show, it’s a movie or two (The Martian and Avengers-Endgame–if they are on I’m watching them, but no TV show has my allegiance like that.
Let’s see, the Mega-Millions drawing is Friday–may have to make a journey to Tennessee, since Ali-bama doesn’t allow sinful stuff like lotteries…
Well, a triple cheeseburger and a beer ain’t bad either…
OK, need to finish up internetting and do the Wednesday crossword puzzle (Jumbles and Sudoku’s have been completed) beofre bedtime. All y’all take care.
Is DH home? If so, settle in and know that you are ready for just about anything. I’m still hoping this is just a drill which will make you much more comfortable next time this happens.
Great minds and all that. I cleaned out the fridge yesterday and now hubs making a list so he can fill it back up. We really don’t need anything but milk and I can get that at the junction.
I’m really getting excited about the tai-chi classes. I spend way too much time sitting on my butt during the winter because I don’t want to be out in the rain and cold wind.
The weather has cleared up here very nicely, but the weather guessers say that the California storm will visit us as well.
So GG. Le sigh. We like to close him in my stitching room for an hour or so and let the crabby old cat out to eat GG’s fud and pee in GG’s litter box. Tonight I was with GG when I realized I had forgotten to bring in the hummer feeder and GG squirted out the door despite my best efforts and warnings about the monster being loose. GG headed out to the kitchen, saw crabby cat and turned right around and slunk back into his safe room and the safety of under-the-bed. I gave him a few minutes, then tossed a furry ball under there with him and got the SHINEY response, so all is good in his little kitty world again.
He got home on time, I promptly grabbed the car for that last supply run.
This is showing me where the readiness gaps are, so next time I should have a much better handle on things (and next time could be next week, since we’re due for more storm activity starting Saturday).
That’s why drills happen Next week, maybe grab a couple more propane bottles. Our stove, when used for camp cooking and water heating, went through a bottle a weekend. If you have to boil your water, you will need more propane.
Wanna talk about your emergency cooking plans? Of course you will be using your propane stove outside on your patio…is it covered? Do you have a picnic table out there, you don’t want to cook on the drink table. Remember that those little stoves can get really hot, so plastic tables aren’t great ideas. Do you have at fireplace lighters?
Also, if you are under boil water orders, you only have to bring the water to a full boil to kill all the nasty stuff, you don’t have to boil it for an extended period of time.
Ya know how I can lecture on a few subjects at the drop of a hat? Cheese, cats and prepping are my triggers, LOL!
Woke up to see a fraudulent debit card charge pending. Notified the bank and, of course, they cancel the card and will mail a new one. Then I had to spend the next half hour re-doing my auto pays for my utilities. About three weeks ago it was a credit card. Got a text do you recognize this charge. No I don’t. Closed that card and sent a new one. Before I even used the the new one it happened again. I hate thieves.
Stay safe Nettie. The World News showed what is going on and even the hurricane hunters plane are going to fly into it to investigate. It sounds like you are well prepared for any emergency.
All youse stay safe and healthy.
FCM that is so sad for MIL. Seems they moved just in the nick of time.
So the heaving went fine. But the local towing company thought Roommate’s truck was “double parked”, resulting in a trip to the seedy side of Raleigh to retrieve said truck. And of course there was a torrential thunderstom on the drive home, complete with the Beltline turning into a river, almost 0% visibility, and the one idiot weaving and going over the usual limit.
Patio is partially covered. I suppose wood TV trays would not be an optimal place to use the little stove, but there’s always just putting it on the concrete for the time being until we figure out an alternative. DH carries lighters for some odd reason (neither of us smokes).
We’ve still got something like a week of soggy weather ahead, so just because things are reasonably OK at the moment doesn’t mean I’m not still on alert. I suspect it’ll be at least a few days before the sporting goods store has more of the butane canisters my camping stove takes, and California apparently gets really touchy about shipping such items to consumers. Good to know just getting it to the boil will suffice. As mentioned, I do stock bleach as well, and just got a water filtration gadget when I was picking up more hand/birdie warmers today.
He’s a construction guy, lighters come in handy for all sorts of things. I like fireplace lighters because it keeps my hands further away from the gas, I’ve been burned a couple of times lighting burners with a regular lighter because the wind shifted.
Cinderblocks can be obtained at Lowes or Home Dept. Why would you want them now? ETA: Duh…to make a stove stand.
Did you look at the snacks I suggested for Lily’s lovely wife? Those are something your diabetic DH might enjoy and they are pretty shelf stable. The most important thing to think about when buying emergency food is if you will like eating it. If you like tuna and see it on sale, buy a bunch, you can put it in rotation with the rest of your stock. If you hate tuna and buy a bunch and end up having a choice between eating nothing and eating tuna…your only thoughts during that time will be how much you wished you had bought chicken.
Do you have a good supply of coffee filters? If you have to use not nice water, it is always a good idea to strain it through a filter before boiling just to try to get rid of the particulates.
I went heavy on nuts and jerky because I know he likes them and they do keep well (aside from just generally being useful snack items). Grocery shopping for a picky eater was challenging enough before diabetes. We do have canned meats on hand, too, and he gets along with tuna or Spam (poultry not so much, but I do).
Since neither of us cares for coffee, I don’t typically stock filters, but that’s a really good idea. I live in easy walking range of a Dollar Tree and a Big Lots, so I need to remember to slosh over there in the morning. Currently, no disruption to my local utilities, but I do realize that’s subject to change.
If you have better suggestions for a stove stand, I’m interested. Cinderblocks just seemed like a good bet for heat/fire-proof, durable, and moderately easy to manage and store.
p well its been a bit of a crappy new year … and at least the xmas stuff is taken out but we did almost al lf it in one day but my feet are killing me and relatives are sucking also
tomorrow is my fav cousins birthday so I hope it will be better
