We're late, we're late! A Monday Afternoon MMP

I GOT THE JOB!!!

You guys are the best! Thanks for all the support! Course it’s pending a background check but I am as boring as vanilla ice cream so I’m not worried about that! (I think I’m hyperventilating.)

And first on Four, too11!!!11!!

Gratz, Pugs!!!

On the other hand, I think I’ll grab a hug. Or a WTF. Or something. I just got an email that the people in Seville, the ones who were in such a hurry, have had the team rejected by the client  How can you be so… amazingly assholish that you tell people “you start on X date” and get them to make hotel reservations, get tickets, etc. when you don’t even have the contract?

I’m still so stunned I’m not even angry or anything, but the anger will come. Seriously, WTF?

A missed opportunity at lunch for a good joke, all because of a cultural difference.

I went to a storefront Mom’n’Pop Chinese place that has The Best Hot and Sour Soup I’ve ever had. Mom and Pop are 30-something fresh immigrants from China, and speak enough passable English to conduct business, but most definitely are not hip speakers of Southernism.

While I’m waiting for my order, Mom starts pulling canned drinks from under the counter and stocks a cooler. The products keep coming and coming, to the point I’m close to being astonished at how much is stacked in an area that has to be slightly bigger than the knee well of a desk.

So I asked her, “How good is your English, and have you ever been to a circus?”

“What’s a circus?”

 “Then you wouldn’t know what a clown car is…”

“What’s a clown car?”

About that time Pop comes out with my order. His English is better than hers, so I was hoping he could translate, but he was equally clueless. Oh well…

ETA: Yay for employment is much more economically satisfying than yay for boobs. Congrats, Puggy!

Yay Puggy!!!

That’s about all the energy I could muster. The seder ran until almost midnight last night… which means I didn’t get to bed until almost 1:30am. Uuuuuuuuuugh.

BTW, the pavlova survived the trip uptown totally intact, and was much appreciated.

triple w00t

Yay! Beers all around!

Yay for Pugsy!!! Congratulations!!

{{{Nava}}} That verily doth suck :frowning:

I mean, I’ve seen similar things happen with contractors here in Israel (the first job I started with a contracting agency started off that way…) – but in my case it just meant doing some research for one of the bosses in office until they lined up a different position, and the difference between a 15 minute commute and a 30 minute one.
Internationally…? That has got to be actionable

Maybe a stupid question, but why did you have the Seder yesterday and not Monday night? I know about “second seders” abroad, but there was no “first” on on Monday, was there?

Not kosher for Passover! :stuck_out_tongue:

Mixed drinks then, because distillation kills the yeast.

Special1, looks like it’s time for you to stop going to the movie theater.

Yay about the job! And The Boy’s job!

And now naptime for me.

There was. Because The Boy teaches a course on Monday nights, we had to skip the first night this year and attended only the second. Everyone else (ie. The Boy’s parents and all their friends) did two nights, though.

No complaints here… having to go to work on five hours of sleep is tough enough without doing it two nights in a row. :stuck_out_tongue:

Vundy, no grain-based alcohol allowed during Passover. So no beer, no whisk(e)y, no brandy, and even no vodka (unless it’s potato-based). Our hosts like to do shots of a plum-based brandy I affectionately call “rotgut”. Bletch.

things aren’t that different here in the States

YAY Puggy!!!

We’re having a Marketing dept happy hour after work 'cause it’s so nice out and everyone wants to get outside (to a patio at the bar). And the CMO has said he’ll pick up the first round. Woot!

Yay Pugs!

I don’t wanna do my taxes and homework…

YAAAAAAAY PUGGY!!!

For those amongst us who have nuttin’ better to do, here’s a rather long explaction of an Agape Supper or as I have grown fond of callin’ it…

THE LOVE FEAST

Cause I’m just a heathen at heart.

That is AWESOME, Puggy!!!Good thing I live alone: I let out quite a loud cheer for you. :D:cool::cool::cool::cool::smiley:

That agent sounds incredibly unethical, Nava. I would at least bill them for the expenses you’ve incurred so far. Hope another opportunity comes along quickly.

So, who’s going to buy me a new car? (Don’t actually need one, but the cool cars floating around the MMP make it appealing.)

Home. Still very allergic. About to go out to see how much I have to pay at a bricks and mortar store for a replacement phone. I don’t use the phone as often as other people, but there have been several occasions since Monday where I would normally call someone or tell them to call me… But I’m sure I can live till Friday or even Monday without a phone if the difference between online offers and 3D offers seems too big.

Back later.

More Peep ideas. Sushi from Peeps! No, I haven’t been searching for Peeps stories; both links came from my Twitter stream. :stuck_out_tongue:

YAY, Puggy!!! Drinks on you!!

We have gutters and the contractor just came by to collect his last check. The job came in $75 under what we’d budgeted, so I’m happy. And the house looks really good. All in all, a very good experience - we picked a winner of a contractor.

I fell asleep during training today. :o I didn’t even realize it because the slide that was up when I dozed looked just like the one that was up when I woke. Guess I should look up the presentation and at least look at what I slept thru. What are they going to do - take away my birthday??

I’ve decided to take Friday off, just because. I started some pruning this afternoon, and I intend to spend a fair amount of time in the yard while I’m off. Lovin’ this weather!!

But for now, I need chocolate. STAT!!! <sigh>

I don’t think my kitty is coming back.
