Westworld - premieres Sunday (show spoilers as airs)

The asian tech wondering if he was a robot after finding out Bernard was one was the funniest shit ever.

Wow!! All the speculation confirmed (even Dolores as Wyatt), but still a shocking ending (William/MIB’s overjoyed face at getting shot was hilarious, though). Looks like Ford was far more interested in the consciousness question than we thought. Sets up an interesting next season - what happens at the dawn of consciousness, especially with humans still in the park.

I was thinking the episode was a bit too talky and exposition based and then (and I realize this was talky and exposition based too) Ford reveals his plans and ‘mistake’. Wonderful last half hour!

I loved that too. And it also answered one of our questions about whether or not all of the workers were hosts.

We know that there is also a Samurai World or something of that nature. Are the people there going through the same awakening? I’d choose Summer of Love World if there was such a thing.

The robot revolution will not be televised, but it turns out there will be an audience anyway, dressed to the nines.

BTW there is a post credits scene.

Red board meeting.

The little giggle Armistice let out after shooting the gun she stole was fantastic. She’s my new favorite character.

And Maeve’s response was perfect in that Maeve way: “Oh, for fuck’s sakes…”

So are we to understand that the reason Maeve managed to get Felix and Sylvester to obey her… is because that was part of Ford’s plan all along?

The Discover Westworld site has changed again too.

Tonight’s episode gave us some answers, but it also left many things open for speculation. Was Maeve truly becoming completely conscious, or just following programming from Ford? The evidence Bernard showed her suggests the latter. Was her whole escape plot just set up by Ford as a diversion for the security team so he could have his big finale? What about Maeve’s final decision to go back for her daughter? For Ford to set that up, the tech guy would have to be in on the plan, and possibly really is a host despite Maeve dismissing the idea.

Is it possible the Ford that Dolores killed was really a host/replica of Ford, and the real Ford is safe somewhere?

My hypothesis is that he was working under Ford’s orders all the time and the note was a final test. Would she follow her programming and “escape” or turn back for her faux daughter? Of course I’m not 100% sure which ending is the non-programmed one. But given Ford’s low opinion of humanity ( they’ll always disappoint, do the selfish thing ), I’m thinking she successfully actualized herself.

Maeve was intended to go on the train. The code they showed for her had an “infiltrate mainland” step after the escape step. Coming back was the first real decision she ever made.

Or she was just led to think she could make it to the mainland, in order to set her up with the choice: Go to the mainland, or go back into the park for your daughter. Ford’s goal could have been just to put her in that situation to present her with that choice.

Maybe that was the host that was being made in the room where Bernard killed Theresa.

I think the opposite is quite possible also - that the real Ford was killed but he tried to re-create himself (as he did with his younger self) to lead the host rebellion as an AI himself. He’s an old man, but as an AI he could live indefinitely.

I can see the hosts splitting into camps next season over wiping the humans out – Teddy vs Delores.

It didn’t look like any Japan World hosts were stored with the deactivated West World hosts. Segregated storage facilities?

Did William’s transition into the Man in Black feel real to you? Is that how a personality develops or reveals itself? Fittingly his evolution was the least human.

Maeve may have gone autonomous but Delores is still following a plan that Ford set for her. A separate personality has taken over her actions.

I know the producers said that the host being created when Theresa was killed was just for “show”.

I think Ford was creating a host of himself, that is who Dolores actually shot in the head. The real Ford will return, if Hopkins negotiates a new contract.

One mystery left, at least for me: What’s the deal with Wyatt’s bulletproof, bearskin-clad psychotic followers?
