You’d better believe they aren’t just sending Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton home.
Which leads me to another thing I have in TV shows, the Consequence Free Universe. In a CFU, the stakes are supposedly really high, but evidence of this is never presented. Westworld has became awful for this because the hosts never die. When we were in the park in Season 1, this was actually an important plot device because, of course, that was their hellish fate. Outside the park, though, they still insist on never dying, and so they just keep trudging along and it feels like there’s no consequence to their wandering from here to there and slow expository dialogue. I don’t have even the slightest sense of tension as to whether Dolores and Maeve are dead. Does anyone? Hell, it seems there’s already other Doloreses around anyway; I think another one will just carry on as the main Dolores. Another Evan Rachel Wood will arise out of white gunk; Westworld Season 4 is already confirmed, and I’m sure they’ve showered Wood with hundred dollar bills to come back.
A little better episode than last week, but still plenty to grouse about.
I guess Serac brought back and repurposed the “not much of a rind” prostitute and Armistice (or a new host who, for no particular reason, went and got herself tattooed like Armistice). They sure gave Saito/Musashi/Dolores the works. Yikes…
I liked the alternative visions of Cal and Francis’s earlier missions, and the reveal of Cal’s reprogramming and how he had to kill his Army buddy after the RICO app offered the other guy “enough” to kill Cal.
Well, it was in charge of maintaining all those cryosleep pods, wasn’t it? I think Solomon had the best line of this episode, apropos of Cal and Francis, BTW: “Every human relationship can be adjusted with the right amount of money.”
And agreed, the guards seemed insufficient to the purpose.
I seem to remember the Vulcans had a maxim for this kind of situation.
Yes! Just how #$%^&! idiotic are Bernard and Stubbs to let him go off on his own?
There was a billboard at a steakhouse near that gas station, BTW, reading, “Proudly serving Lab to Slab real meat,” alluding to the factory-grown meat at the place where Bernard was working after escaping Westworld.
Even before I clicked on your link I thought I could boil it down to four words: “Why should I care?”
Yeesh, tell me about it. Yet more Plot-Required Shitty Marksmanship. But Maeve sure did look badass, all in black and with a katana.
I had the same reaction to the few Transformers movies I saw. Giant robots whale on each other for a couple of hours, laying waste to entire cities in the process, and at the end they’re all ok. See you for our next movie, folks!
Something I’ve been meaning to ask: the first image in the opening credits, with the pale, curved surface with something scratchy in the middle - is that meant to suggest a woman’s crotch?
Terrible episode, terrible season finale, terrible season… really I am trying to think of a word that could describe this show in its current incarnation…
I am glad this season is over and I hope season 4 will do something else entirely different because what we’ve seen was a big pile of manure.
I guess it’s like Lost and GoT. You either love it or you hate it after a while. I loved the season and the finale. And I’m sufficiently teased by that post-episode teaser to be looking forward to the next chapter.
But yeah if you don’t care what happens it’s probably a clue that it’s time to stop watching. I felt that way after the second season of The Walking Dead and I may have made it to the third season of Breaking Bad before I realized I was no longer looking forward to the shows. So that’s what I did. It’s meant to entertain. If you’re not entertained what’s the point?
Not so sure about that.
I bet there’s going to be allot of folks that are going to wait for the reviews and if they are positive watch the first episode and if they see that the show continues it’s current shenigans they turn it off.
Right. I enjoyed the episode as well, especially as Charlotte goes back to Dolores’ original plan while Dolores herself changed her mind. And when exactly is Bernard… and is it too late for him to do anything? I will be intrigued to see if Evan Rachel Wood is really gone - or will she be in flashbacks/hallucinations/ghost in the machine.
What happened with Bernard at the very end? My DVR cut off the last part just as we saw Bernard all covered in dust and he moved.
I didn’t mind this past season. I think Delores was at first thinking on killing humanity, but wanted to really see what we were like outside of the park. It seems she got her answer in Caleb. I think Delores might also be dead dead, at least I hope she is.
That’s Dolores, as in pain and sorrow and Lolita. Don’t confuse her with Delos
Maybe she’s dead dead- apparently in this world people like poor Serac aren’t good about offsite backups of their data. Wouldn’t be surprised to see some good William vs evil William though
I liked the finale, satisfied me and yet left me anticipating more.
I’m hoping Evan Rachel Wood is not out of it. I suspect some kind of internal good-vs-evil type dealio in Char-lores is going to get her embodied again.
I’m trying to recall when she killed *any *police in this episode, as opposed to private security.
I’m choosing to ignore the “needless”[sic] part.
Because that predictive machine was just sooo infallible…
That will be my strategy too. I actually gave up on season 3 after 3 episodes. I tried, but it is shockingly poorly written and executed television given its obviously large budget. I just didn’t give a damn about anyone in the show. They weren’t real people, just vehicles for comically Extremely Serious ™ dialog to propel the story along.
The show as a whole is a neat concept, and I think they did really good work in season 1. Season 2 was a little rougher because it just got bogged down in its own complexity in a way that stopped being entertaining. But not enough for me to give up on it.
If they manage to return to their roots in a season 4 and the reviews suggest they’ve done so I might give it another try. But quite frankly the reviews would have to be glowing and point to specific things I like. There are too many really interesting and compelling shows on the streaming services now.
