Westworld S3 (show spoilers as it airs)

Poor butterbot

Yes, but do they guests know that? It doesnt seem most do.

So why build robots that feel pain and violation?

Here,[this is the true soundtrack]
(Swans - Raping a Slave - YouTube) to pre-uprising Westworld. Play at full volume.

Note to everyone- that is a link to a rather disturbing music video called “raping a slave” which has nothing whatsoever to do with Westworld. Reported.

Yeah, more or less the same here, altho of course in D&D you will run into the Paladin ethics issue of baby goblins. (Killing babies is evil. Leaving them to grow up and kill humans is also evil…So no matter what happen the paladin falls). Of course good DMs dont give you such traps, but a few ethical problems are fun to set before your players.

I played GTA 1, and like you said- it creeped me out, so I stopped. But people who play it arent evil.

No. It is made clear that most guests come once or twice, pick the White hat, do a quest or two and never return. In fact many rescue Dolores. It would seem that 9999 guests rescue her and maybe one in 10000, bored with playing too often, one who gets free access- delves deeper.

Certainly many take advantage of the prostitutes in the saloon, sure.

… So, Dolores should KNOW most Guests are decent humans, since they come, do the “rescue the ranchers daughter” scenario" and leave. Only a couple hurt her.

Godwinizing the thread already? :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Could we stop with the nazi hijack please and get back to Westworld ? Thank you.

Unless of course we are gonna talk about Warworld.

If you are a strict pre-destination-ist I guess, but then again, those folks seem to have no issue with our creator(s) doing whatever they please with us.

Who knows if Warworld was just a construct anyways… but if one is to use the Nazi analogy, it would only really work if the Nazis made and constructed and programmed the Jews and could demonstrate they did so (you know factories) - as Delos made, constructed, and programmed the hosts (and we see the construction process as well as the programming process quite a bit in Season 1).

Other than the fact that it’s loud, and the title, what’s disturbing about it? It’s a static, non-sexual image.

Learn what Godwinizing actually is, and what Godwin himself thinks of over-applying it, please.

 right back atcha.

Guests aren’t (all) Delos staff. They’re just *told *what the hosts are.

Hell, the hosts could actually be brainwashed humans, for all they know, and the same arguments apply (I think I’ve seen an Outer Limits exactly like that)

It’s not a hijack, it’s an analogy.

I *could *have gone with how Southerners were also told Black slaves were inferior subhumans, but
a) I knew I was talking to a Jew, so I personalized my argument
b) I wanted to avoid the stupid accusation I’ve gotten here before, that I make everything about race.

Yeah, don’t do that. I specifically don’t make Apartheid analogies when you’re around because you’re South African, as I believe that would be both disrespectful and ignorant on my behalf. Personalizing my argument is the last thing I want to do in a casual message board conversation.

You brought up Nazi attitudes toward Jews because you wanted to AVOID making it about race!?

Noted, but be aware that I don’t mind Apartheid analogies when they’re relevant, and I’d trust you, in particular, to know when that is.

It should be obvious what I meant. But in case it wasn’t, I meant I’ve been accused of making everything about race in the POC sense. So purposely chose a non-POC example. Didn’t hurt that that Warworld episode was the last one I saw, either.

Wasn’t there some thread describing a thought experiment where an AI is imprisoned in a “box”, and has to convince people to let it escape? I read that and thiught to myself, why does the AI need to convince anybody of anything— why would it be acceptable to imprison someone in the first place? (It is possible I missed some nuance about the AI being Skynet or misunderstood what was meant by “box”.)

Of course Delos Inc. was never concerned with moral philosophy.

I really hope this Nazi/Jew analogy is a real-life version of the “What’s the square root of -1” question and ends up freezing up these shenanigans so we can reboot this thread.

Anyway, I’m digging the show as always and am doing my best not to read the internet hivemind posts that tend to spoil everything.

Hey, I was directly asked why I root for team Dolores, and thinking about man’s inhumanity to man factors into my reasoning.

If people don’t like the answers, don’t ask me questions.

Actually we don’t even know what Dolores plans to do, do we? Beyond some vague talk to Caleb about bringing down the corrupt system (I’m sure the majority of humans would get behind that, at least in principle.)
