In my experience, I agree with “tangy, like touching your tongue to a battery,” and “pennies.” It’s a very faint electrical-metallic taste, no doubt because of the acidity. It’s like the way about 3 or 4 volts makes your tongue taste. Higher levels of arousal and fluid production get less tangy, even when not mixed with saliva.
I think the smell has a lot more variation than the taste between different women (from what I hear; I only have personal experience with my wife). But there’s definitely not a fishy taste or smell under normal circumstances.
I disagree with the 9 volt battery things - can’t really give you a description, but everyone I have been with the taste is relatively mild, definitely not sweet, but that’s the best I can do. Actually I see the word “tangy” in other posts and that seems pretty close.
