What does your Straight Dope nickname mean?

I do believe I’ve said this before but here goes nothing…
I went to Knott’s Berry Farm with some of my friends. There were flower wands and crowns with ribbons on them, really cute actually. So of course I had to buy a set. I was wearing a crown so I said I was a princess. I’ve always been my daddy’s princess anyway, I’m the youngest daughter. I love fairies, and flowers go with fairies. Thus I was a Fairy Princess. Later in the day I started getting moody, so I made my disgruntled cat sounds and hissed and then purred when my boyfriend made me happy again. He called me his “Pretty Kitty” because I always call him my puppy dog. Add kitty and voila Fairy Princess Kitty I pranced around all day saying I was a Fairy Princess Kitty. I’m actually usually not as sweet and innocent as the name suggests but I can dream can’t I?

Kitty

Well after I trolled the SDMB under my real name, I decided to change my name and become an actual member. I remember trying to think of a good name, specifically a “short” one. Meanwhile on TLC there was a show on Silos. So I took the name Silo and’ve stuck with it since.

You do know it was an old city in Roman Syria, right?

No real mystery in my name - I stayed outside watching for a while before I joined up.

The first thread I ever saw, and then posted to, was called “There’s a spider in my bathroom” originated by Democritus. I chose the name Spider Woman because I like spiders, and the thread inspired me.

el mono. En Espanol=the monkey.

I’m attempting to learn Spanish. While getting familiar with this here Internet thing I found that I needed a user name. It so happened that my Spanish lesson that day included “el mono” in the vocabulary list. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Somehow people have the idea that my name comes from some Monty Python skit. The truth is, I can’t stand those poofters and am quite tired of being associated with that juvenile bunch of limeys!

Crunchy Frog is actually from the Bible. I quote here from the Book of Amphibian, 23:5-8

[sup]5[/sup]Where Ishmael was found amongst the reeds and marshes, surviving by finding nourishment in the various creatures which abound in that dread place. [sup]6[/sup]And he did feast on the insects and the fish and antelopes and the birds and the cows and the pudding and the newts and the sloths and the cougars and the aardvarks. [sup]7[/sup]Ishmael was about to dine on Frog which he had happened upon when God made himself visible in the marsh in the form of a buffalo with four asses. [sup]8[/sup]And God spoke unto him, “Behold this Frog! May thou be so powerful as yon wet beast! For none shall best this Frog of Crunchitude.”

Thanks brachy and corvus…I’ll give her a biscuit in your names

Just my real nickname.
I wish I had thought of something smart or fun insted,
but now I don’t want to change it.

The last Fletch book work reading was “Fletch and the Man Who”. It was also the last one I bothered to read all the way through. Therefore, I became The Man Who. In the book, it refers to a presidential candidate and thus appears to be a play on the phrase “The Man Who Would Be King”.

I’ve been using it since 1995 or so. Has nothing to do with the recent Travis album of the same name. That title’s from Oliver Sachs’s book “The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat” (or possibly the sequel, “The Man Who Mistook his Ass for a Hole in the Ground”).

My wife looks nothing like a hat. She is an ordained minister, tho’, and would probably blanch at seeing me swear up there. She will occasionally take the appelation The Rev Who, in honor of her hubby, who is indeed honored.

Cordially,

Myron M. Meyer
The Man Who

hence the nickname.

My old boss is a litigator and so we loosely called her “little Gator.” The other attorney took on the nickname “Baby Gator.” I joined as a law clerk and became Junior Gator. Hence the name.

Junior

I go to a women’s college, and the geology majors are sometimes called “geobabes.” The first time I heard that, I really liked it, and I am, of course, a geology major, so there ya go.

Does anyone know the meaning of the handle: CecilAdams ?

I’m a micro/molecular biologist, and my brother-in-law was always naming games on Battlenet.com “BioBitch”, so I’d know where to find him.

Anyway, I tried labrat my usual user name, and it was unavailable. BioBitch seemed a bit harsh, so here I am with bio-brat. I don’t particularily like it, but I seem to be stuck with it. The price one pays for a lack of originality.

BTW my user name on battlenet is I’m_at_work, which I think is pretty clever. I shoulda used that.

Nah. As in “new at”. ref: nawk. [sub]not to be confused with gnu at, of course[/sub]

ummm… my name has no true story. I was lurking at the SDMB and i decided a wanted to sign up and stop being a lurker, but i also wanted something so that my friends wouldn’t be able to immediately know it was me. This just came to me while i was sitting at the sign up screen. It has worked great, but i told my friends who i was and they were incredibly embarrassed because they were afraid they had said something to DH but not intending me to hear.

Loads of Fun

I collect pez dispensers and have always been in punk bands. Thus pezpunk.

When I was in college, a competing underground rag ran a very recognizable parody of one of my rants. It was signed Dr. Pinky. I never figured out who did it, but I liked the name, which is kind of a sub-genius mockery (Pinks are Normies, dupes of the conspiracy.) Also, the flamingo is my totem animal. So it makes total sense that I live in Alaska.

A zyzzyva is a South American weevil. It’s also the last word in English, according to the Oxford English Dictionary (some other dictionaries list zyzzyx, but i’m going for official here).

Many moons ago, i went by zeppo. This was good for a while, but as time went by it got to be more and more taken, so i figured zyzzyva was pretty safe. It was.

A solitary weevil is truly insignificant, but they can be devastating in numbers.

I’m a girl. A big girl. I changed it to Pink Slinky awhile back (long story). Due to popular demand, I changed it back.
