NEMESIS was the personification of divine justice and the vengeance of the gods, sometimes called the daughter of Night. She represented the righteous anger of the gods against the proud and haughty and against breakers of the law; she distributed good or bad fortune to all mortals. No one could escape her power.
Add in a little AOL issue to make me tweak the spelling, and there you have it.
I’m a bit of a chat fiend… I was also one of the oldest in the group of chatters. Somehow that led a friend to dub me FairyChatMom. I rather liked it, so I use it for a lot of things now. It is SOOOOO me!
My nickname goes back to high school. I’m normally a good-humored guy, and one day in the cafeteria I was telling a funny story and one of my friends started comparing me to Andrew Dice Clay (the story wasn’t anything like an ADC routine, but Andrew is my real first name so I guess that’s how he made the connection). Anyways, my friends nicknamed me “Dice.” When I started going on-line I tried using Dice as my nickname, but it was taken. So I used “Diceman,” which I haven’t yet found anyone else using. As a bonus, there’s never any question about whether I’m a guy or a girl.
I’m from Michigan.
I’m a huge University of Michigan fan even though I attend UofM-Dearborn. It dealt with a free scholarship versus paying for college. Plus I still get student season tickets to football games in Ann Arbor. My freshmen year was the one where they won the National Title.
I’m a comics fan. Strangely, I like other X-men and other comic characters better, but the reference still works.
I think the animal is really cool.
I’ve had a life-long obsession with a celebrity who died on the shitter.
Really, I’ve loved Elvis my whole life. When my daughter was born, people bought us Elvis-related products.
I love his music, of course. But what I really love is the kitsch associated with him. My god, he was one of the tackiest people ever, bested only by Liberace.
When I was little my sister had a fancy coloring book with pictures of different mythical beasts in it. My favorite one was the lamia, a woman/serpent demon from Greek mythology. About four years ago I wanted a new nom de net (I’ve been online for about nine years now so I’ve been through many nicknames), and “Lamia” just sprang to mind. I’ve been using it in different variations ever since.
People often guess that I named myself in honor of the Genesis song “The Lamia” from “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway”, but I’d never heard of the song or the album until after I became Lamia. Others assume that my demonic/vampiric name means I must be a goth girl. Since it’s a common misconception that I find amusing, I chose a photo of me looking unusually gothy for the Teeming Millions page. Many of my own friends didn’t recognize me in that black fright wig!
When I’m in a good mood, I tend to get really goofy. My friends say I’m acting “half-baked” when I do this. One day my SO was making fun of me and said that I had been half-baking so long that I was starting to get crispy. Since it sounds like my real name, Christie, it stuck. I decided to use it here and even made it my new ICQ handle.
The first chat room I ever entered was at the They Might Be Giants homepage http://www.tmbg.com. I wanted a screenname that was TMBGish and happend to be listening to the TMBG song “Particleman”. My first name being Will, I did the little swich, and liked it so much, I use it everywhere.
I first started using mojo as a PIN for the machine at work that dispenses narcotics. I thought it was ironic in an “open sesame” kind of way. When I started on SDMB I added 57 for the year I was born. I just got tired of it so I changed it to The Mermaid cause I’ve always liked mermaids.
Mermaids represent the ultimate fantasy creature. They are beautiful, gentle, wise and mysterious, not unlike myself. Plus they get to wear those really cool shell bras, lie on the beach all day and eat nothing but seafood. Not a bad life in my opinion.
In the book the main character (who may be nuts) expierences his past and future lives. Zebra is his name in the future (when he has evolved lobster like claws) so I decided that the me here is a future version of me.
