What games need a sequel, rerelease/remake, etc?

Cave Story is coming to Wii, or already here. I haven’t checked in awhile.

For a sequel i’d love EDF2 (Earth Defense Force) since it was a remake from an old SNES game. Killing giant bugs and robots just never gets old to me.

For a rerelease/remake i was always fond of SimAnt while i was growing up and i would eat grass to get a copy of it again.

I found a copy of I-War 2 on ebay for 3 bucks shipped… and honestly I’m feeling that it would’ve been a ripoff at a third the price. I wouldn’t put it anywhere near Freespace 1, let alone FS2. Hell, I wouldn’t even put it near Freelancer, it’s close to DarkStar One but a bit below it, IMO. The interface is sloppy and generally unintuitive, the gimick of Newtonian physics just makes your ship feel awful and ungainly, the voice work is pretty crappy, you can’t even deliberately fire counter measures and one wrong pass against your enemies seems to pop you like a balloon.

Gah.

I’m going to keep playing just to see if it gets better… but I have a feeling that I’ll end up reinstalling FS2 again instead.

Chess is the granddaddy of games with remakes. I liked the middle ages version played on a 10x10 board with extra pieces that moved like knight-bishop and knight-rook.
Chinese Chess looks challenging, with its “river” in the middle of the board.
And then there are hex and round board versions.

I was fascinated to learn that many chess masters like Bobby Fisher like to play these alternative games, and also puzzle versions like eight queens and one king on each side.
