What have YOU done today?

I’m making and canning salsa to use up the onslaught of tomatoes (and cilantro) I got from my CSA membership this week. Then I’ll walk to the store quickly to get some cider vinegar, to make pickled beets with, and can those as well.

I’m so stressed at work at the moment that I’m having a deliberately unplanned and lazy weekend. I need to mow the lawn and tidy the house, but I can’t be bothered. I’ll do that tomorrow.

So I got up, had a coffee and a piece of toast, read the newspaper, then solved a “VERY HARD” competition sudoku, but realised that it was from last weekend’s paper so there was no point in doing it*.

Fucked around on the internet getting lost in a world of popups and weird pictures.

Walked a couple of miles into the city to retrieve my bike because I was too drunk to ride it back from the bar last night. Saw an amazing girl busking “You’re the one that I want” from Grease as a soulful ballad - really superb. While I was there I bought some excellent new headphones for my iPhone, and a new charger because the old one was shorting out my computers’ USBs, as well as a chicken curry/chicken pesto sandwich from a very good deli. Cycled home, put on a load of laundry, ate the sandwich, called my girlfriend, had a coffee, and here I am.

All in all, just what I was hoping for.

*I’m not bad at sudoku, but I have discovered that solving one is a bit like masturbating without coming to orgasm - completely pointless, frustrating and unsatisfying.

Got up early to walk/run 3+ miles with a friend in the park. Snarfed kasha for breakfast, took kids to kung fu and had a lot of fun with that. Came home and did a little work/prep for church tomorrow. Now am going to make 7yo clean hall and bedroom so I can vacuum (10yo is off the hook ATM because she’s out mowing the lawn).

Let’s see…

Breakfast + 3 hours of World of Warcraft (because you gotta have some fun in life). Cleaned dishes and kitchen sink. Made tuna salad and salmon salad. Prepped food ingredients for tonight’s dinner (pepper steak). Hauled 81 pounds of junk/scrap metal to the recyclers (got $10.50 for it all). Stopped at store to purchase supplies for the small business the husband is trying to get going. Checked on garden (will soon go out to harvest some vegees). Took out household garbage. Had lunch.

I dropped off a bunch of very old pain killers that I kept forgetting to get rid of. link

spent 1.5 hours studing for my boards, ate breakfast, ate lunch, started sorting laudndry, won an area rug in an online game

So far, I’ve screwed around on Facebook, made breakfast, went to the sprog’s soccer game (his team won!), and am now having a mani-pedi. I should be doing something productive, like lesson planning. But this is therapy, dammit!

Well, I slept until 8:30 this morning, got up and developed plans for world peace, ending disease, eliminating starvation and then I repealed DADT. And I practiced my lying skills.

On my third glass of iced tea. Does that count?

Listened to “Wait, Wait. Don’t Tell Me” and “This American Life.”

Entered a contest to win $100. in free groceries in a local store, set out the ingredients for a home-made pizza to act as an incentive and shucked a dozen ears of sweet corn.

The Mighty Oak came in and suggested a cycle ride for the afternoon but it looks like it’s going to rain. Hey! Something new and different.

That may be the extent of my ambition today.

Well done! You obviously need a cup of tea and a short break from your endeavors.

I am so in love with that program. I would love to be in the audience if they ever came by this way.

Well, I’ve added to my accomplishments. I cleaned the Brita pitcher and changed the filter. I also killed a giant spider in my bathroom. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

I don’t know if they travel. This week’s show was broadcast at the Chase Auditorium in Chicago.

Yes, seeing them live would be fun. Sounds like the audience is having fun.

Bought a season’s ski pass. One down, two to go.

They do travel around the country, though the usual show site is at their “home base” of the Chase auditorium.

Salsa just about done processing in the water bath, and I’ve started cooking the beets for pickling!

Made applesauce and tomato sauce. Planted about 200 flower bulbs. Gestated a fetus.

It’s enough for one day. I might find the gusto to make dinner too.

Not much at all.

Slept until 1:30pm (went to bed around 2ish - I’ve been very sleep deprived the past few weeks, and it was awesome to sleep in so long!)

Had breakfast, then settled onto the couch to do some school readings (actually an interesting book) and surf the Dope/net. In the background, watched a classic Penguins-St. Louis game on the NHL network, then a recap of the 1995 New Jersey-Detoit Stanley Cup Finals, and now it’s a Chicago-Detroit pre-season game. Will likely watch the Habs-Sens game tonight, flipping back and forth between the Riders-Ti-Cats and Stamps-Lions CFL games tonight.

Over all that, I’ll get some homework and a bit of housework done, but my plan for today was to do absolutely nothing, and I’m well on my way! I’m likely to go into school tomorrow to get stuff done, unfortunately!

Oh man, do I get credit for nursing the baby and stuff? Sweet!

Even without that, I was really productive today.

Got kids ready to go to grandparents
Put Netflix in the outgoing mail
Cleaned and organized toy box
Dusted
Washed LR windows and de-smudged TV
Cleaned powder room right down to scrubbing the baseboards
Replaced nasty old heat register in powder room
Scrubbed kitchen floor (after finding a bug on it this morning ew)
Scanned in some artwork of my kid’s and threw away the hard copies
Downloaded and organized some holiday and birthday pictures
Went to lunch with my sweetie
Picked up baby, fed her dinner
Arranged for Craigslist buyers to cart away our treadmill
Pinned the shoulder seams on a dress I’m fixing

I’m telling you, taking Vitamin D and fish oil, and using some FlyLady concepts, has really changed how much I get done. I can’t believe the length of that list, and I don’t feel tired or overwhelmed. I managed to read some and play a short game of Left 4 Dead 2 as well, and once the baby goes to bed in an hour, I’ll have all evening to goof off!

Had breakfast with a bunch of friends from work. Then we went and painted some rooms in a house with Habitat for Humanity.

Came home and took a nap.

Now I’m FB chatting with my son in the navy nuclear power training command.

Woke up. Ate. played on the internet. Got a phone call around 11AM, went to the site, and helped to pound sand into the walls of an earth-rammed passive-solar house. Now I’m doing laundrty, going to make food, and then do some drawings. As long as the power stays on (there was a power failure when I returned home).

  1. Had lunch with an old high school friend. We looked at yearbooks, and visited for two hours. It was great seeing her again.
  2. Checked out a collection of short stories by Neil Gaiman, a novel by Joe Haldeman, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
  3. Finally got around to buying an iPod Shuffle to replace my mp3 player that broke last year.
  4. Also bought ingredients for BLTs, and a six pack of Yuengling
  5. Caught up on 30 Rock, and watched the first episode of Outsourced
6a. Threw out my rickety 10+ year old entertainment center and enjoyed watching it fall apart as I pushed it down the steps to my home
6b. Cleaned up the mess I just made.
  6. Put the TV, converter, and DVD player on the new center, and piled all the books and DVDs on its shelves to sort later

to come:

  1. BLTs and beer
  2. Maybe media sorting?
  3. Fahrenheit 451
