What if the Cubs Were to, Uh, You Know

i was a bit afraid to open this thread, thinking: “oh my, what could they be doing in the locker room now?!?!”

as a red sox fan i say we won the first series of the last century only fair that we win… what ?!? what do you mean life isn’t fair!!! i’m a red sox fan…

Just celebrate baby. Don’t give me this “what do we do now?” crap. The Cubs have made the playoffs 3 times in the last 20 years (84, 89, 98). That’s more times than most teams.

I was born in Chicago. North side. Near the Ravenswood El. Talman and Lawrence Ave. Right the hell across from Grossinger Pontiac. My grandparents owned Solar Window Company and the Delphi greek market was next door. My credentials are rock solid, baby.

And if they get to the series I’m going. I’ve already talked to family about it. Mrs Chance and I make good money. My mom can buy and sell us. Her mom can buy and sell her. And we’ve all vowed to drop the dime on this. Cubs go to series, we’re going to every game. Screw work, screw everything. We’re there.

And if they win I’ll turn to my grandmother and kiss her right on the mouth. She’s been waiting almost 80 years for this. She’s the matriarch of Cub fans in the family (heck, she’s the matriarch of the family, period). She can’t get around so well so I’ll be the one making the travel arrangements (she hates to fly but says she’ll make an exception for this) and other things. It’ll all be worth it to make her happy.

So cross your fingers folks. No defeatism here. If the pitching holds up and we get a real center fielder (Patterson is most certainly not the answer this year) there’s a real shot at running away with that division. St Louis and Milwaukee are competing to drop out of the race. If we can just knock Houston out of it we’re well positioned to make the dream happen.

Say your prayers every night, north-siders.

::Clasps hands and prays intently::
When it happens, I’m going to put an Official Chicago Cubs[sub]tm[/sub] World Series Champions flag on my great-grandfather’s grave.
You can blame him for taking a three year old girl and turning her into a die hard Cubs fan.

I know he’s watching them and rooting them on.
