What is the most annoying popular song of all-time?

No other videos posted have ever autoplayed but this one.

Although that would make a terrible show, they do have nice voices. But not as edgy as the mercifully short lived show Cop Rock. Which was the best thing since Manimal.

I’m sure anything by Alvin and the Chipmunks is worse.

We’re looking into what made that video auto-play. But in the meanwhile, I’ve (I think) broken it so it’ll just display as a URL, rather than as an embedded video.

Possibly relevant is the provider of the video-- I’ve never heard of yarn.io before.

Yes, we’ve had a couple threads already on autoplaying links.

Saw the thread title and this popped into my head:

“My Boy Lollipop” Millie Small, 1964

Trying to decide which is grosser: Starshiip’s We Built This City or Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us Now.

Sorry. Was just trying to be funny.

Easy. Terry Jacks, “Seasons in the Sun.” Made me cringe when it came out in the 70’s, still makes me cringe today.

In the case of a tie, give it to, “We Built This City.” It’s supposed to be anti-commercial, but is such a heinous example of corporate rock, even Grace Slick hates it.

Oh - forgot.
The Most Wall-Punchable of All Time.
Christopher Cross’s All Right.

All right, think we’re gonna make it.
Think it might, just work, out, this, time.

You sing this with the most forced smile you can painfully muster, and especially the second line, emphasizing the pauses to let it just burn through your freaking soul. You will be awash in its, yes, stinking grossness.
Oh and wall-punchy.

Wait, why am I singing Christopher Cross? And although I am embarrassed “yacht rock” is a thing, I’mma gonna sing Sailing. Or would if the urge to sing Christopher Cross should strike. And I knew more than the one line from that song remembered from a TV commercial decades ago.

That’s what I came in here to mention, but I see you beat me to it!

I feel you, believe me, but there is some consolation in that it inspired a truly awesome cover (spoilered for mild toplessness in the vid ) :

Okay, what’s not to like about “Afternoon Delight”? It’s a cheerful little pop song with good harmonies and a catchy arrangement. And it’s sex-positive - the women are looking forward to a nooner as much as the guys are.

I won’t say that I’ve come around to liking the 70’s pop cheese of my youth, because in truth, I never stopped liking it. Yes, I like “Angel of the Morning”, “Sometimes When We Touch”, “All Out of Love”, even “You Light Up My Life”.

That said, the dude with the glasses in that video is, um, something of a moodkiller. And the effects are horrible. Watching it, though, I was reminded a lot of another 70s band featuring two couples who sang to one another in their videos: ABBA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-crgQGdpZR0

You know what else I like? “What’s Up”. Yeah, I said it.

To be fair to this thread, I don’t think it is enough for a song to have a wild run (who let the dogs out) if it has no staying power and is relegated to the dustbin of history.

Having worked in an office where top 40 easy listening/adult contemporary is the tune du jour, I nominate Cheryl Lynn - Got To Be Real (Audio) - YouTube Cheryl Lynn - Got to be Real, which has always sounded like cats being swung around by their tails.

I like a lot of the songs regularly listed as annoying. In fact, it is mildly strange to me the same songs show up on so many of the lists. Doesn’t anyone do original work?

Because I have affection for some songs which are musically bad but not annoying to me. My Humps. Milli Vanilli. Rick Astley (I perhaps hold a world record in getting rickrolled). Because I Got High. My dislike for ABBA is mild - mainly due to an overenthusiastic Spanish teacher. Their songs don’t improve when translated.

You like the He-Man extended version of it?

No. That’s just silly and annoying. I do like Linda Perry’s big, brassy voice.

Picking on 70s pop is pretty low hanging fruit, imo. Though some of it legitimately was a crime against nature (Having my Baby).I like(d) most of it but that’s probably mostly due to the nostalgia factor.

How about that dreck At this Moment.
IIRC it became popular as the theme song for Michael J. Fox and Courtney Cox’s characters on the popular tv series Family Ties. Holy crap what a glurgy, tuneless piece of shite.

Sorry I don’t think I know how to insert links. You should thank me, in this case.

Hey There Delilah.
