What is the name of this jazz song? (includes 4 bars of the melody!)

I haven’t heard it in years and it’s playing around in my head right now driving me nuts.

Here’s a rough approximation of the melody, though I didn’t get the rhythm exactly right.

I remember that it is sung by a sexy sultry female voice, with that slow zzzzzZZZIP zzzzzzZZZIP instrument going on in the background (sounds like someone running their fingers down a comb).

Any idea what the name of the song is?
Bonus if you know the name of that zzzzzzZZZZip instrument.

I can’t read music, but I’ll take a shot.

Fever, by Peggy Lee?

Seems to me like it could be “The Look of Love”, maybe? Not sure about the exact version you’re looking for, but a quick search reveals popular renditions of it by Diana Krall and Dusty Springfield. There’s also a version by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 - I remember this one and it may feature the instrument you mention, which by your description I’m pretty sure is a guiro.

The zippy thingy is like well… lol where-o. lol but thats SO not how to spell it.

That is. the name is " where-o " sans the spelling.

Can’t read music either, but that zip-zip sound may be someone running thimbles over a washboard.

Answered and answered!

Not only was I wrong on the rhythm, but I got the melody wrong too. The last time I heard it was on the in-flight music during a ten-hour redeye, so I wasn’t exactly in top form. I did consider asking the airline for their playlist, but I forgot.

So the zip zip instrument is properly referred to in English as a Guiro (presumably from Spanish)?

I sort of prefer the Brazilian name for it: reco-reco. It kind of imitates the sound.

So what’s the name of the song?

Sorry about that. “The Look of Love”
I think I had heard the Diana Krall version. Smooth

Um… I meant the Dusty Springfield version. No “guiro” on the Diana Krall one. Smooth nonetheless.
