I picked Irish whiskey, though I’m also partial to scotch (single-malt, not too peaty), and have recently become a fan of Captain and (Diet) Coke. And, there’s always a beer, too.
DCnDC unfortunately, me as well. I’ve only got a couple friends willing to drink more than a shot with me, and even than, only on occasion
In order of preference:
Single-malt scotch (Glenmorangie Port Wood, Balvenie Double Wood, and Macallan are faves)
Irish Whiskey
Small batch bourbons
Red Wine
Microbrews (lighter during warmer months, darker during cooler months)
White Wine
Vodka martini (preferably Grey Goose, dirty)
As the size of my gut can attest, I am a beer man.
Beer. I like a lot of different styles but tend to gravitate towards IPAs and Belgian styles.
For hard liquor, gin and tonic.
Vodka. I hate beer, I hate wine, rum and bourbon make me sick… but vodka I can drink until the cows come crawling through the door at 4am vomiting all over the carpet.
Beer, especially IPAs. I like beers that are especially hoppy.
My #1 is Jameson’s or Tully neat, water back. A decent bourbon would be a close second. #3 would be Tennessee whiskey. I think I see a trend here.
Beyond whisk(e)y, I enjoy an occasional gin and tonic in the warmer months, a decent cab, merlot, pinot or Austrian white for wine.
On the rare occasions that I drink anything else, it’s usually a liquer with coffee after dinner. Not so much a drink as a dessert.
Dr Pepper.
Beer for now, but scotch is coming on strong.
I have a few go-tos when I’m out, but I voted for liquor (other) since my main one of those is amaretto on the rocks.
I try so very hard, but I just can’t get in to beer, so I often feel a little lost when we go out to bars - much of the time I just volunteer to DD so that I can sidestep the “what to drink” problem without much concern (we mostly go to college-town type bars. Not dives, exactly, but not ones with a huge selection of drinks). I’ll get a Woodchuck if it’s available (almost always the cider they have at bars, if they have a cider), or a vodka spritzer if I’m feeling girly. But if I’m out someplace respectable and not feeling complicated, amaretto on the rocks is probably my fav.
Lately at home, I’ve been making myself a drink that is an abomination to all that is good about whiskey - it’s the most girl-ied version of a Manhattan ever. I take a couple shots of honey whiskey, a glog of vermouth, and a splash of blood orange bitters I picked up on a clearance rack, and shake with ice. I then pour it into a chilled martini glass that I’ve rimmed with - I kid you not - pomegranate flavored sugar. My two “I’ll drink anything you put in front of me” friends threw their hands up after one sip of that thing (which meant I got three that night!). I’ve had candy that’s less sweet than that drink, but I just can’t stop making it.
I’ve also been into sweet tea vodka (served slightly watered down over ice), and Bailey’s (served neat or over ice) lately. The Bailey’s sometimes gets an extra shot of honey whiskey.
I voted for tequila, but I don’t really have a strong opinion on the matter.
Depends on my mood and context.
Context: If other people are largely having a particular drink, then, I’ll just have that too.
Mood: If I haven’t been drinking in awhile, and I don’t want to get too drunk, or too drunk quickly, or just want to be sociable, then a/some beer/s. Or, like, if I am specifically craving beer.
Or, if I’m not in the mood at all, or haven’t been drinking in a while, something not alcoholic at all. Or if I am feeling social pressure not to drink something alcoholic or it’s otherwise inappropriate.
Or if I’m specifically craving something else specific, or if, I’m specific curious about some particular drink I haven’t tried before, or if, I’m specifically nostalgic about something, or if it’s a particular holiday or season for which a particular drink is appropriate, then…
But, if, I’m just trying to get inebriated, then vodka seems to be the obvious slash default choice. It can either be used straight or with a chaser to get a drunk on, or else, it can be mixed with various other things to get a buzz slower and with more interestingness or more tastiness.
I’m still curious about the whole “scotch and cigar” thing. If anyone wants to enlighten me as to single vs multi malt, on the rocks vs straight up, cigar vs no cigar, go ahead. It might not end up being my thing, but I’d like to experience it first hand at some point.
Fore everything, turn, turn, turn, there is a season…
Are you, by any chance, a PI?
But, I like beer.
I seriously lol’d.
Sehmket, if you like sweet tea vodka, and you like whiskey, you reallyreallyreally should try whiskey with iced tea. I like having the tea as a chaser to a shot, but that’s just how I roll. In fact, came into this thread to say that’s my current drink of choice. (Voted “bourbon” but that’s b/c the cheap stuff I can afford is bourbon.)
Red wine, though no one who sees me out regularly would believe it. I drink beer/shots in bars, because I will drink too much red wine and pay for it mercilessly the next day.
But with dinner, or sat at home with friends - red wine.
Ice cold milk.
Beer. It is a quaff with staying power. Martini and hard liquor drinkers are not looking for staying power. It is like the new drinkers who drink shots. They are trying to quickly get someplace. No fun.
Beer. Specifically Bear Republic Racer 5.
Kolga, i think we were separated at birth.
