What kind of nuts in your rocky road ice cream?

I’m getting ready to make some rocky road ice cream, but when I look up the ingredients list, there seems to be a question about what kind of nuts goes into it. What do you say? Walnuts, almonds, or something else?

  • Walnuts
  • Almonds
  • Something else (explain)

First choice: pecans
Second: pecans
Third: pecans

Cashews are what is in Rocky Road candy bars. They could be choice Four.

Moved to Cafe Society (from IMHO).

For Rocky Road, you can literally use whatever nuts you have on hand. I’ve used almonds, pecans or walnuts.

Also, add more pecans

I’ve never seen almonds, but walnuts are the correct choice. The pecan thing must be southern

Almonds. It’s not Rocky Road without almonds.

Using another nut might make it Stony Road, or Bumpy Road, or whatever, but not genuine Rocky Road.

Deez nuts.

I’ve only seen rocky road with almonds.

And I hate rocky road because of the almonds. I don’t like nuts in or on ice cream, they’re too hard. Ice cream is supposed to be creamy. Hot fudge, bananas, berries all good - not nuts.

I don’t eat much ice cream, I guess. I thought Rocky Road was chocolate and peanuts.

ETA: someone here just told me I was thinking of tin roof icecream?

The someone there got it in one. Often done as a Tin Roof sundae. My mom put about a half cup of peanuts on them. At the point they become high protein-we could call them supper.

Rocky road is chocolate ice cream with marshmallows, chocolate bits, and nuts

Interesting development: After taking an early lead over almonds, walnuts have dropped to second!

I second all of this.

Wikipedia tells me that

I voted “other” - any (tree) nuts you like, peanuts don’t count.

Try macadamias, you won’t regret it. Or hazelnuts.

I ended up using pecans. It was great.

Walnuts are what is in the well-known local brand. I don’t eat nuts in ice cream unless I add them myself. I hate it when they get mushy. Rocky Road is a big offender in this area.

Rocky Road is my favorite ice cream flavor. I love almonds, which is what both Häagen-Dazs and Baskin Robbins use, but when I was a kid we only got ice cream at Friendly’s – and they had Rocky Road with peanuts (which I also love). I’ve never seen it anywhere else, but I chose “other” because peanuts were in the first Rocky Road I ever had.

Walnuts in Rocky Road would be an abomination. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have only ever seen / eaten it with walnuts though pecans would be delish.
