Evan+Juliana is definitely one of my 90s happy places. Throw J into the mix and it’s even better.
I’ve been listening to a lot of jazz lately. I was experimenting at work with mellow music to keep the dogs calm and I called up a Bebop Classics playlist on Spotify. Jazz to me is a lot like baseball. I like to listen to it (watch it) I just don’t know much about the players. However, I’ve found myself drawn to John Coltrane, Chet Baker, Art Blakey, Dexter Gordon. So far Charlie Parker and Miles Davis don’t really do it for me.
I like MAKTUB. I’m partial to You Can’t Hide.
MAKTUB, the band and Gary Clark jr.'s song title are completely unrelated. Apparently the word means, “It is written” in Arabic and is how they talk about fate or destiny.
Huh.
Will check out the band now.
SteveO at the controls until 9
Vivaldi’s Four Seasons
Mogwai on shuffle.
The Dirty Nil released a live record yesterday, so giving it a listen. This is a fun band to listen to and they put on an excellent live show.
Listening to my current earworm playing in my head – “Wild Montana Skies”, by John Denver and Emmylou Harris.
The new Cheap Trick album
Jon Anderson’s latest album, True. It’s the best Yes album in 25 years!
I’m at work right now, and in my head I’m listening to Jonathan Coulton singing Famous Blue Raincoat.
When I drive home in half an hour, it’ll be the SDMB’s Christmas playlist on Spotify.
Currently listening to “The Next Messiah” off Jenny Lewis, Acid Tongue. It’s a long rambling song that changes styles multiple times and each time I’m reminded of Lewis saying it took a million tries to record without anyone screwing up and having to start over. Testament to the human spirit.
I’m intrigued!
