What peanut butter (or any ground peanut paste) pairs with, March 2024 edition

When I was little, we used to go to the crumpet shop downtown, and I got some sort of chocolaty topping for my crumpet. Asked my parents what it was, and they don’t remember.

Recently I tried peanut butter and nutella together on bread. That’s the taste that I remember from my childhood. So good.

Because my parents make their own jelly, my PB&J sandwiches are usually with blackberry or strawberry, not grape jelly.

Honey and peanut butter are really good, especially if the bread is lightly toasted.

Hubby loves chocolate and peanut butter together. One of his sisters, the one who eats just about anything, cannot abide those flavors together. The other sister will fight hubby for the last Reese’s cup. And she might win.

‘Other than price’ is a nontrivial factor. Weis’ store brand natural PB (just peanuts and salt) is $2.57 for a 16-ounce jar, creamy or crunchy. Every other brand is over $4/jar around here for all-natural.

I eat a lot of PB straight from the jar.

I used to eat peanut butter and mayo sandwiches sometimes when i was a kid. We always had Pepperidge Farms white bread. I just used mayo because there wasnt much else sometimes. I liked it fine but it wasnt a particular favorite. Sometimes I would put lettuce on it. That was good.

I would also eat PB and cheddar sandwiches. Very rich, but very good, especially with milk (though i havent drank it in 30 years).

When I was a Cub Scout, our den mother once gave us, as a snack, an ice cream cone with two scoops of chocolate ice cream. In between the scoops, a tablespoon of peanut butter. Den mother’s older daughter came out to join in the snacking, and I can still, nearly sixty years later, recall her shriek when she encountered the PB in her chocolate ice cream.

I want to try this but also don’t want to ruin an entire bowl of chili.
