There was a squeeze cheese that came in a tube, where both ends were sealed off with metal staple like things. In the center of the tube was a cap you would remove, and then puncture the tube. Best stuff ever on crackers.
I don’t know why they call this stuff hamburger helper. It does just fine by itself.
Sadly, that quote has a limited shelf life.
On the subject of hamburger helper- they only had one kind that anyone in my house would eat: Cheesy Hashbrowns. They changed the box a few years ago and labelled of as part of the Cheesy Classics line (or something like that), but then it just went away. The local grocery chains had generic versions that disappeared too.
I normally hate food like that and only use pre packaged foods to shut up picky kids, but that was the only store bought convenience food everyone would eat.
Now I tried in the past to make everything from scratch shredding my own potatoes and using high quality cheese, but people just love the dried potatoes and fake cheese stuff. Now Betty Crocker and some other brands sell a boxed cheesy hashbrown and that works out ok wih a pound of beef thrown in, but its hard to get it to turn out right.
Speaking of Taco Bell, around here (NY tri-state area, and probably other areas too), the Mexican (Spanish) Rice was discontinued late last year by the ‘Bell’, replaced by “Latin Rice” (looks like plain white rice to me).
Do what I do - look on ebay and buy multiples when you find the right size. I like a particular jean I got used at a thrift store. I went to ebay and bought 4 more pair.

Wan Chai Ferry boxed chinese dinners. Pretty decent and the spicy ones ARE hot. I believe they still produce them but EVERY store around me stopped carrying them. Can get them on Amazon, but not for that price!
Those things are awesome! But don’t say it too loud or “they” might discontinue those too…
I just remembered another one. Clinique used to make a Black Honey mascara and eyeliner to go along with their lipstick. I like the lipstick well enough, and it’s still available. But the eyeliner and mascara are apparently long gone. They were the perfect color for me. Not quite brown, black, or purple, but the greatest combination of all three. I still have about half of one eyeliner pencil left, but the mascara has long since run out.
Sundance Sparklers
especially the Kiwi Lime and Cherry flavors
Almost everything in this thread is either junk food or unnecessary cosmetics. All of that kind of garbage stuff comes back, in one way or another.
The only real loss–the only product worth crying over–is the TechniClick, especially since they sold four-packs at the 99 Cents Only store for–well, for 99 cents, of course. Never was such a mechanical pencil made, and never will one. It was masterpiece of funtional design, beauty, and smooth, technical clicking. (The solid fushia model proved quite useful with the ladies . . .)
Yeah, now they have the “TechniClick G” and “T3,” but they’re not fooling anyone. Go through all of the reviews linked above to read a chronicle of the sad demise of the greatest mechanical pencil ever.
Fortunately I stocked up, but every time the back-to-school sales return, I shed a tear for all those young students embarking on their education never to experience the smoothest click of all: the original TechniClick.
I am awed, and a little scared, that a blog on mechanical pencils has enough comments to require scroll wheel action to reach the end of them. The internet really is a niche miracle, isn’t it? (Your blog? It’s a good one.)
It sounds like they’re paying you to advertise their wares.
•California Pizza Kitchen’s frozen Thai Pizza. Or any other kind that wasn’t “ultra thin!” style.
•Lombardi’s cluster rolls. Sorta like…sourdough “monkey bread.” A local treat, but a bit hard to find; I’d finally resorted to going to the company’s HQ/bakery and buying it at the front desk. They didn’t even have a web site, much less one that showed stores where they stocked it—as of 2008, which was a bad sign in itself. The company folded that year.
•Costco’s Orange-Cranberry bread. Last I checked, the nearest place that stocks it is in British Columbia.
Well look what I just found in the supermarket today!
OK, they’re not as good as Flipz - the pretzels don’t have enough salt - but they’re still pretty damn good. Mmmm… pretzels
I thought of another one. California Scents-- they come in a little pop-top can-- had a great scent: grapefruit. It was citrus-y, light, not overpowering, not fakey. I bought two cans. Put one in the bottom of my kitchen garbage can and the other way in the back of my SUV. Never found that scent again. Every time I am in a store and see the little cans, I go through all of them, searching in vain for grapefruit. One time I was in the grocery store wearing a short straight skirt. Not the kind of attire a woman of a certain age should sit on the floor while wearing. I sat on the floor and pulled all the boxes out and pawed through them, hope rising in my heart, even as my hem rose to places it should not be outside my bedroom. I made a spectacle of myself. No grapefruit. Also can’t find it on Amazon.

Or how about this?
Archer Farms (the Target house brand) used to make a Southwest Style Lasagna, which was basically Enchilada Lasagna. Enchilada sauce, layers were corn tortilla, meat, peppers, cheese, corn. Was awesome stuff.
Omigod. It’s a miracle. The last time I searched (a few years ago) I couldn’t find this stuff anywhere. <Thelma tears up> Thank you.
