OMIGOD. I go off to book club and come back to this Book of Lamentations… all the lost beloved products. It’s heartbreaking. <sob>
You are SO right about this! I used to eat this in graduate school (mid-'70’s) back when the little can of “fixin’s” was chunky and you could see the bits of chopped onion. I bought some a few years ago and the little can contained some kind of paste. Boohiss. Have they now even discontinued this sorry product?
This absolutely! I discovered the Cacique strapless bra, which is a wonder of engineering. It stays UP and keeps the girls UP. All day with no slipping and sliding. Defies gravity. They are so good I started wearing only strapless bras and never had to worry about straps. Ah, life was good… strapless days… and the livin’ was easy. For years, I bought new ones as the old ones wore out and then (as you said) BAM- blindsided! One day, the store person said they weren’t making them any more. Eek! I went all over and found a store that still had four back in the storeroom in my size and bought them. One of them had misshapen cups from being scrunched under a heavy object. I didn’t care. Come to Mama, my precious. I still have two of that haul tucked away in the closet as backups when the ones I own become debilitated.
(Can I take them to a seamstress and get the elastic panels replaced? The beauty of the Cacique is that it stands up by itself, but the foam is not all that thick, and there are FOUR hook-eye fasteners, so there’s lots of grippage, as it were. Beats the Wonder Bra all to hell.)
Yup. I didn’t care for 501s, but I used to love 505s (same fit but zipper-fly.) Levi’s quality control went to shit. I may have bitched about this recently
My nearest supermarket recently rebuilt twice the size of the previous building, with miles of shelves. Mueslix cereal is a relatively new brand that I adopted as default. With yards of shelving and dozens of similiar brands they went down to one box-wide section, and then none. I think its still made, just not available here!
Isn’t there somewhere that any of us can complain about the removal of our beloved brands?
Or is there some such place and they merely send you back a form letter or the email equivalent?
In this day and age of competition, surely some company could make money embracing the desires of their customer base rather than treating them as some sort of disposable resource.
Heh… yeah I just read that, and I want a pony, too.
Sunkist mandarin orange soda. It came out around the same time I went to Norway. In Norway, I guzzled some brand of orange soda like there was no tomorrow. Sunkist’s mandarin orange was the closest US version.
Root Beer Kool Aid.
Roman Meal bread. At least I can’t get it around here
Royal Crown Sours were mentioned. Miss them a lot.
Roma “Magic Crust” pizzas. Cheap and surprisingly edible.
Hazelnut Tim Tams. Heaven on a stick and I think I was the only person who ate them because they were only on the shelves for about six months. I still miss them <sniff> after ten years or more.
ThelmaLou, I think there are - or at least used to be :dubious: - a couple of cosmetics companies that would match the shade of old, discontinued colors if you still had some left.
KarlGrenze: I just looked up the model number of my current favorite bras… dammit! I only have two of these! I hadn’t bought more because I didn’t buy them all that long ago.
Tropicana had the best orange tangerine juice. The entire family loved it, it made a great mixer OJ for parties, not from concentrate, low-acid…so naturally my local grocery chain stopped carrying it. Happily I found some at a different chain and would stop to stock up whenever my travels took me that direction, but now they’ve dropped it too.
