What the Sanford affair means

I agree with both of you that he deserves to be fired for skipping out on work. But not directly for the affair. It really doesn’t matter whether you disappear for a week because you’re having a tryst, hiking, watching TV, or practicing the guitar: it’s the disappearing that matters.

I am not suggesting he should be fired for having a sexual affair. We would run out of pols pretty fast if we did that. But the fact his wife is not dutifully standing by her man on Tv ,indicates how well she is taking it. He overstepped badly. Plus he is a big hypocrite for doing what he did while castigating others for the same thing or lesser .

IIRC some reporter asked Mrs. S how this would affect her husband’s political career. Her reply? “That’s not my concern.”
IOW Maria better have been worth it. He’ll be available pretty soon. And poor, too.
