Add me to the growing list of people who lost their Amazon virginity by buying Straight Dope books. Here’s my first order, from June 2001
* 1 of: More of the Straight Dope
* 1 of: More Anguished English/an Expose of Embarrassing Excruciating, and Egregious Errors in English
* 1 of: Return of the Straight Dope
* 1 of: Icelandic : Grammar, Texts, Glossary
* 1 of: The Straight Dope Tells All
Something must have changed on my account somewhere between my first orders and my current account settings, because it doesn’t have my very first order from them back in… must have been around 1996.
It’s messed up though. This was the earliest one listed but I KNOW I made purchases way before this one. Earliest purchase it has for me was 2003. Then it has me down for ZERO orders from 2004-2007.
Max Payne, August of 2001. I’m pretty sure that was just to get the uncut original version… So, my first amazon purchase was motivated by my thirst for blood.
Wow, looking through those orders is a weird way of going through one’s history…

It was probably to listen to in the car while we were traveling over the holidays.
Well, when I ordered back in '98, it wasn’t on my current account. It was with my parents. I do remember I ordered the book “The Exorcist” and still have my copy. But I’m not sure if I also ordered any CDs, which I might have.
In July 2003 I got my first Red MOMO Force steering wheel, used for my various racing sims. I got a replacement 2 years ago and have kept the original for parts (if I ever need them, which so far I haven’t).
Huh, my memory was accurate: Country and Blues Harmonica for the Musically Hopeless, book with cassette and harmonica. Ordered in November, 1997.
Interestingly, I remember this order because it arrived without the harmonica. I called their customer service number, spoke to an actual human being, received apologies, and swapped it for a copy with the harmonica attached. Oh, back in the days of excellent customer service…
