What was the last album that you bought?

Just preordered C’mon, C’mon, Sheryl Crow’s newest. Along with The Globe Sessions, which I’ve been meaning to get for a long time now.

I bought three:

“shout: the very best of tears for fears”

“Heaven and Hell” by Vangelis

Joshua Bell “Bernstein: West Side Story Suite”
All three are just packed with goodness.

The Koln Concert, Widdershins?? Wonderful stuff…I didn’t even think you could still get that. I actually preferred Jarrett’s Bremen and Lausanne concerts me’self.
My last album was David Bromberg ( a Japanese pressing that doesn’t apparently need a title?? or maybe it’s hidden somewhere in the teensy-weensy writing in the blurb.

I bought it used, kambuckta. Somebody had apparently traded in a bunch of Jarrett at the local CD store. I picked that album because I vaguely recalled the name. Luck of the draw, I guess. Thanks for the recommendations, I’ll be on the look out for those other albums.

the last album i bought was the Pixies “Doolittle”. a great album i recommend everyone buy.

I blazed through this thread pretty quickly, but I don’t think I saw any duplicates, which says something about this board to me.

I’ll have to continue the thread by adding Randy Newman’s “Bad Love,” volumes 1 and 2 from “The Carl Stallings Project” (Looney Tunes music rocks dude!) ; and “The Blue and Grey in Black and White” (Civil War-era music).

What am I listening to? Jimmy Buffett’s “Fruitcakes” and They Might Be Giants.

“Capricornia” by Midnight Oil. Highly recommended.

Dang, and I was hoping to be the first one to mention Zappa. The last album I bought was Them or Us. Great combination of basically every kind of music Zappa ever twisted to his ends.

And I wish I were as cool as the people who said the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and Tom Lehrer.

Not mentioning them doesn’t lessen your coolness. The question was what was the last album that you bought. I bought the Bonzo’s and Leher back in the late 60’s. Been a Bonzo fan since Gorilla came out. (One of damn few at the time… boy the looks you used to get playing that for people.)
Just be encouraged that people are still appreciating and supporting music from the category Other.
Incidently, since you’re into Zappa/Bonzos/Leher, you might be interested in checking out the Senor Coconut link I cited earlier in this thread.
Keep exploring and supporting the fringe!

Hawkwind! Space Ritual! Kewl!

I understand the dilemma. If you’re young enough you might enjoy exploring some of the Beatles material which is actually quite good if you’re not overly familiar with it.

My last purchase - My Generation/The Very Best of The Who.

“Burn!” by Ennnio Morricone

The craziest, weirdest, most kinetic, bizarre soundtrack I’ve ever heard. And I have hundreds of film scores, by Morricone, Williams, Goldsmith, etc. But this score takes the cake. I got the LP ages ago, and am elated to finally get the CD.

Well, crap. Doublepost.

Last Vynyl I bought was the 7" “Kowalski” by Primal Scream.
Last CD I bought was The Streets “Original Priate Material”. I’m not much of a fan of garage music, but this album is a standout from the genre, as it mixes dub, hip hop and garage in a very “Geezer” attitude. Exceptionally listenable.

Hmm… I feel so nerdy: newest cds I bought (in NYC at Tower Records, I might add…hee hee) were the Kalichstein/Laredo/Robinson Trio playing Ravel, and a Prokofiev with Joshua Bell (hee hee) and Vladimir Ashkenazy with the piano and violin concertos… But… hee, the best cd I recently bought was the Beethoven/Mendelssohn cd with Joshua Bell playing… (see a trend here?)

DOUBLE ESPRESSO by the Tony Levin band, Tony, Jerry Marotta, Larry Fast and some one that I can not recall on guitar, an excellent album.

unclviny

Agreed. I’ve never heard a better way to incorporate DUDE! into a song.

And just after Cake, I bought BT R&R (2 cd set for $14.)

YES!

Me, too. Man, Cornershop may be the greatest band still active.

If we’re talking vinyl it would be the first Melissa Etheridge LP in like 1988 or something.

Murder City Devils-In Name and Blood
Electric Frankenstein-How To Make A Monster
Turbonegro-Armed and Fairly Well Equipped
All at the same time, and on vinyl.

If you’ve never heard the Norwiegen band Turbonegro, you’ve got to check them out. They’re the craziest band since the original Alice Cooper band. They have songs about gay cowboys (Prince Of The Rodeo), Evil Keneivel (Ubermench), anally raping Bette Page (I Fucked Bette Page), Nambla (Midnight Nambla), hippy bashing (Hobbit Motherfuckers)…but it doesn’t come off at all like GG allin or the Mentors. For an encore, the singer would stick a roman candle in his ass and fire it over the audience:eek: Great twisted Rock and Roll!

Jon

Firewater’s Psychopharmacology. Listening to it right now. Great album, everyone buy it.
