What was the last album that you bought?

If you are only going to buy one CD, this would be it!

I have been broke for so long, I think the last CDs I bought for myself were Theory of a Deadman and Our Lady Peace Gravity.

I also got Audioslave for Xmas…its growing on me.

I just ordered a copy of Lyle Lovett’s “Live in Texas.” I don’t care for country music, but Lovett is so much more and gives a terrific live show. I can’t wait until it arrives.

Prior to that, I got an CD from a local artist Rosanne Ranieri. She’s a songwriter in the Joni Mitchell vein. Not my usual stuff, but she was quite impressive at the local First Night.

And before that one, it was Deborah Coleman’s "Soft Place to Fall. She is a dynamite blues musician – great guitar, great voice.

I don’t often listen to or buy current popular music simply because I’ve heard it all before. It’s not that music is bad; it just stagnant. There hasn’t been a truly original new group in years. Most of the popular music is just bubblegum that’s been already chewed, while “alternative” is pretty much just Punk wanabees.

What we need is a revitalization similar to the New Wave/Punk movement in the 70s, but there are fewer radio stations willing to play anything other than playing it safe, so it’s unlikely.

Bach: Transcriptions, Leonard Slatkin conducting the BBC Philharmonic in orchestrations of Bach works by a dozen different composers. More adventurous than the old Stokowski arrangements.

Although I didn’t actually buy it, it was a gift from my brother.

Thoughts and Fancies by Lyonesse

Two nights ago.

Sir Adrian Boult conducting the London Symphony Orchestra, doing Ralph Vaughn-Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis and Gustav Holst’s The Planets.

On vinyl. (Bleecker Used Records)

LotR-TTT soundtrack. One of four CDs I bought the last few months (after Singapore, the prices in France are very steep), the other three are the newest releases by Coldplay, Peter Gabriel and Tori Amos.

well, my musical tastes have been described as eclectic. You be the judge:
Bela Fleck- Bluegrass Sessions v. 2. Holy crap this is good!
Southern Culture on the Skids- Plastic Seat Sweat
Laurie Anderson- Mister Heartbreak

OK, these are the last two I bought, but I bought them at the same time:

Talib Kweli- Quality (hip hop)
Richie Hawtin and Sven Vath- The Sound of the Third Season(Minimalist Techno)

U - The Incredible String Band
The Nine Maidens - John Renborn
Divinities - Ian Anderson

Whoa! Synchronicity!

I clicked on page 2 of this thread only to be confronted by my own post.

Since then my last CD purchase was The Burning Brides’ Fall of the Plastic Empire + “and you will know us by the trail of dead”'s *source tags and codes"

and you will know us by the trail of dead sounds a bit like Sonic Youth, only they’re not.

Before that was Christ Whitley’s Living With the Law and Derek Trucks Band’s Joyful Noise.

First off, ZOMBIE THREAD WALKING!

Secondly, my last CD purchase was Jerry Cantrell’s Degradation Trip Vol. 1 & 2, which I highly recommend.

In fact, it’s the best album I’ve heard in a long time. Go buy it. Now.

To add to a growing list:

Amorphis, The Karelian Isthmus
Ministry, The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste
The Who, The Ultimate Collection

awwww shit. one of my all time favorites. if you don’t have it make sure to get “in case you didn’t feel like showing up live” it’s worth it for the live version of stigmata alone.

I’ve bought only three since May 2001:

R.E.M.–Reveal
Ben Folds–Rockin’ The Suburbs
Ben Folds–Ben Folds Live

I’ve found that DVDs and PS2 games are a much better value for my entertainment dollar. Plus, all the music I like I already have, and my favorite bands aren’t very active anymore.

LOTR: TTT soundtrack
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Scrubs soundtrack

I’m afraid Coldplay is about the only band I really like right now. Weezer’s one of my favorites, but they haven’t released a new CD in a while.

Went insane and bought a bunch last week. Everything by The Beta Band and Modest Mouse, I Oughtta etc. by Shiveree, replaced my Comfort Eagle by Cake and Discosis by BranVan 3000 (some thieving bastard didn’t return 'em), Yoshimi by the Flaming Lips, and Beautiful Freak by Eel. Not to hijack, but I wondered about the new Queens of the Stoneage-- any opinions? They seem a little uneven to me so far.

The beginning and the end of the disc are solid, and those parts make it worthwhile. The middle’s not so great, but it’s not awful either. It’s definitely worth getting.

Thanks, I’ll check it out.

Jebediah’s Glee Sides and Sparities. They make great indie guitar-pop, and although this is only a rarities comp, it’s well worth it, if only for the classic ‘Monument,’ and their cover of Magic Dirt’s ‘Pace It.’

However, my current favourite album is my burned copy of Interpol’s Turn on the bright lights. It’s so beautiful, and ‘Stella was a diver and she was always down’ is breathtaking. If I’d known how good it was i would have bought it.

Bob Dylan - Live 1975 - The Rolling Thunder Revue

Yes, I’m old!
