I saw Yellow Submarine twice in the theaters. In 1968 and 2018.
Probably The Avengers.
I don’t like the movie theatre experience as a rule so its hard to get me in there once never mind twice, but the last movie I saw twice in the cinema was “Fury Road”, because if ever a movie demanded a repeat viewing on a really big screen it was that one.
Before that, I think I saw Pacific Rim twice as well. Again, sometimes a movie really demands to be seen on a really big screen.
Outside of those I don’t think I’ve ever watched anything else twice in the cinema, unless it was the Fellowship of the Ring, because I would have watched it twice but can’t remember if I actually did or not.
Iron Man. Two friends of mine who don’t like each other were both determined to see it with me and this was the only solution.
X-men Origins Wolverine. It was mediocre both times and I haven’t seen it since. But I enjoyed the company both times.
Bohemian Rhapsody. Twice (so far).
Prior to that, The Greatest Showman (6 times). That’s my second largest count behind Star Wars. ( I don’t even remember how many times. Didn’t keep records back them.)
“Bohemian Rhapsody.” I first saw it opening night in IMAX and they just brought it back in Dolby so I wanted to check out how that presentation looked in comparison. (The rumble seats were really cool during the concert!)
I’ll be seeing “Free Solo” for the second time tomorrow because it has a one week run on a true IMAX screen and I want to see how that looks on a massive scale!
Before that, the last I saw twice were “Three Billboards”, “The Greatest Showman” and “The Last Jedi.”
Pineapple Express
Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse
Saw it once with my wife when the kids were not interested in going to a movie, and then was so impressed we dragged them to it a couple of weeks later. They loved it as well. Before that it would have been another MCU movie probably. Did take my son to see The Shawshank Redemption this summer but I am almost certain that I did not see that in the theater originally.
I know I saw Titanic multiple times in the theater.
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen some movies with my kid twice in the theater.
However, the last time I am positive I (re)saw a movie a movie in a theater was December 6th, 2012, when Pulp Fiction was released for one night only.
Probably one of the LotR movies when it comes to original release, which I think is what the OP was intending to ask. If we expand it to the last time I saw a movie in a theater that I had previously seen in a theater, regardless of time span or re-release or special events, the last was Princess Mononoke last year when Fathom was doing Studio Ghibli showings. Though I watched the sub this time (as I do whenever possible when it comes to any foreign-language media) but it was the dub twenty years ago, as a subtitled version wasn’t available until the US DVD release. To be fair to Miramax and the American actors, it really is a good dub.
I also have never seen any movie in a theater more than once. However, I will rewatch favorites at home many times. And, frankly, I don’t much like going to theaters - sound is too loud, as are audience members at times, seats aren’t as comfy as my recliner at home, snacks are better at home, and the bathroom is definitely cleaner!
I take an expansive view of these things, so any film you saw in a theater that you had previously seen in a theater is cool.
That was my thought too, but it appears to be common enough even nowadays.
When I lived a block away from a $5.00 second-run theater, I saw a lot of movies, and if I liked them, multiple times. I know I saw Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistlestop Cafe twice, but the last film I saw more than once was A River Runs Through It, truly one of the most beautiful movies I’ve ever seen. Seven times, including the showing were I convinced my roommate to come by telling him that Brad Pitt had a nude scene.
I watched Hobbit 3 twice. First time around I missed the first 10 minutes so I wanted to watch that, I though the rest of the film was a visual feast so
I wanted to watch it again anyway.
Other than that I almost never re-watch movies in the theater. I think I watched FOTR twice. The big one was Avatar which I watched four times. I though it was
a unique visual experience which I wanted to savor on the big screen while I could.
When The Godfather had its 25-year re-release back in 1997, that may have been the first time I went to see a movie in a theater which I had already seen on TV. (Until then, I hadn’t seen GF in the theater, being 5, 6yo when it was released. No, I got to see Billy Jack instead. )
The Hobbit 1. It turned out to be the least bad of those films, and mostly I wanted to see it in not 3D because MAN the 3D gave me a headache the first time.
Thank you! I knew I had seen more movies in repeated theater showings recently. Between Fathom and one of our local arthouse theaters own series showings, I have seen many Ghibli films several times of the last couple of years. That was bugging me.
Bohemian Rhapsody. We saw it and enjoyed it. We didn’t think it was all that amazing, but good enough and very entertaining. So we happen to live right next to a luxury theater (reclining seats, full bar, good food), like we can smell the popcorn close. A couple of times we went out and had quite a few drinks, came home and thought “Let’s go see Bohemian Rhapsody!”
