Mine is still so fresh that…chin quivering…that it’s still…biting bottom lip…still hard to…voice cracking with emotion…talk about. sniff
This attempt to bump is most likely doomed I’m afraid to the same fate as the first.
But what time you must have invested in all those links! The problem for those reading it would be thoughts of “What can a mere mortal add?”
My motives are legit!
I’ve moved on…with help from my therapist, a bottle of jack, and lots of chocolate.
The unadulterated view and response count is seared in my brain, never to be returned to again.
So come on people. It’s cathartic.
We can even institute a rule. No posting on anyone’s linked threads. The Big Hamster is watching and will know if you do not obey…
So many of my threads sink that I think I’m using a lead font.
I’m getting used to it. You people just don’t love me!
sulks
Well… since my threads (7, count 'em all…) get around either 6 or 30 replies… I’ll go with my intro thread, which I had thought died at under 3 replies,
but let’s see…
Oh, I now see that Sternvogel, racer72, and jrfranchi all came along after I posted that it had died. Guess that was back in the day before I realized how to subscribe. Uhhh… thanks for coming to my little party. (Sorry I ran off in a huff before you showed up!)
According to the board’s search function, I have started 109 threads. Only one failed to elicit any responses. (Well, there was another one, but it was a duplicate and it got locked so it doesn’t count.)
I posted this thread with question in Cafe Society about the ending to “Once Upon a Time in America.” I figured there would be enough Dopers on the board who have seen that movie and might help me out.
I was wrong. Thread got no replies and it sank like a 1000-ton stone.
OK, now you have been stricken by my post of doom.
This thread will certainly die now, but not nearly as fast as the threads I start. In fact, what I should do is open my threads with an invitation for someone else to open the exact same thread so it can live a long, normal, healthy life.
The search function says I’ve started 80 threads, three or four of which got no replies. I’ll go with this one.
I discovered that I’ve started 61 threads! Only one got no response. It asked whether anyone was going to the Canadian National Exhibition last August. Apparently, attendance is down…way down!
I seem to be pretty good at killing other peoples’ threads, though.
Eh, you get used to it after a while. I only start threads about things I’m really interested in, and I start the thread for me, not for any audience participation. Some people have a knack for drawing others in; I’m coming to terms with the fact that I’m not that person, and I’m okay with it. And sometimes it gets really boring around here and we need some new threads just to shake things up a little.
I top you all.
Last year I started Dear Santa, hoping to have an open letter of dopers to the big guy himself.
Unfortunatly, nobody seemed to pick up on it…it only got one reply, and that was not a letter but a comment about MY letter.
But then again, I didn’t say anything like “add your own” or something to let people know the threads purpose.
I shrugged it off.
THIS year, I thought, okay now, we’ll try it again, and this time with a subtle “Anything else?” To get the ball rolling.
So here it was…Dear Santa……
Yeah. Right.
It got ONE reply again and sank like a stone.
So oh well. Next year…
I’ll probably try it again. :o
My Ask the Americorps member thread didn’t get a lot of attention, which I think is sad because there’s a great deal of interesting stuff going on in Americorps, both publically and behind the scenes. But you can’t force people to be interested.
Wow. I was all ready to dig out some plummeting threads of mine, but after looking at that OP…
I guess they’d seem kind of anticlimactic.
I had a jar of Lezzo. I don’t like to talk about it.
Ah, I have found my place at the party–the wallflower wall.
I have had only one successful thread–and that was the Harry Potter GOF one in Cafe Society. It would have been hard for it to fail, given the popularity of the subject. Plus, it helped that I went to the midnoc show and saw it before anyone else did.
Every other thread just lingers and dies a lonely, isolated death–going out with a whimper, not a bang.
<sigh>
Sometimes I want to tap on the screen and say, Oy! Is this thing on?
but I may have found my people…the Island of Misfit Dopers. Welcome-grab a brochure and a cookie.
Most of my threads go nowhere, too. I was so very excited last night when I posted a brag thread about my boy Nick doing sopme major kick butt in his first dog show… and it got very little attention. Guess I’m the only one that cares about Nicky.
Oh well… it didn’t bring me down off my high… I am still the proudest dog-mama in the world !
One time the feeder crickets for my lizards were dying of some sort off odd cricket-disease. They would become paralysed from the back legs up until they would just lie there, totally paralysed except for their vainly waving antennae. Then they would die. I had no clue why; they had fresh food, water, etc. I started a thread in GQ asking if anyone had any idea what was wrong with them. No replies.
Once in awhile I still get a batch of crickets that will have this happen.
I’ve had two that were really let-downs, about 4 years apart from each other.I Was A Shaving Whore
This one I thought was funny when I wrote it, but re-reading it now I realize that it wasn’t that great.
I think this one is very funny, but either I’m wrong or it is just way too long.
I’ve looked over all my posts, which was an interesting exercise (thanks honeydewgrrl!), and I found that I’ve posted about 42 OP since 2001. Using Idle Thought’s criterion of over 30 posts for sucessful threads (from the Best Ask The Threads thread) I see that I have 6 threads that topped 30. I looked at some other things as well. I had about 3 other threads that are under 30 but I’m proud of for some reason (usually an interesting OP that got some play). I had about 2 threads (maybe more, I didn’t check all of them) that asked a factual question and recieved a very good answer within a few posts. I also had a few posts that don’t quite fall into the “proud of” but still got good responses that didn’t quite make it to 30 posts.
I should also note that two of my OPs generated 3 pages of replies. Another OP generated 2 pages, but it was on a topic that was guaranteed to get a fair number of responses (and was stupid).
It was an interesting exercise to look over my old threads and realize I posted quite few that sunk into oblivion. One thing is that I really don’t post that many threads and when I do I’m not often thinking primarily of how many responses it will generate. Another thing is that I often don’t come back to my old threads if they sink down past the first page. I only recently figured out the subscribe tool.
I thought more people would have been watching WITCH. Guess it was just me. It got the goose egg. Although now as a mature doper (nearly 5 years at the keyboard) I was able to laugh at it. BTW, now McDonald’s has their toys. The stupid commercial doesn’t understand their powers at all!
I always breathe a sigh of relief at threads like this since my worst thread was wiped out in the winter of our missed content.
