Just because you agree with the opinion, that doesn’t justify threadshitting.
Here we go again. Prepare for another 50 post hijack about Beck & opinions
Known threadshitter defends threadshitting as perfectly alright by shitting in yet another thread?
Color me shocked!
Oh, my bad…
Completely disagree, aside from a couple of threadshits, and a couple of “why are you bothering” posts, there was a flood of positive responses making an effort to fight the ignorance of us old white people who don’t get rap.
Yeah, I read that thread with some interest.
I usually can’t catch enough of the words and can almost never catch enough of the references to understand what’s going on in rap; but that doesn’t mean that I think there’s nothing going on worth listening to, which would be something else entirely. I was glad to see some explanations given.
So weird.
Philster comes back from a nearly-5-year hiatus to insult a newb that raised a 20-year-old zombie (IMHO forum, “Why do truckers cut people off”) and gets bent out of shape for being modnoted for being an actionable asshole.
And then insultingly demands a mod ban them because they’re just that butt-hurt.
Death by moderator.
Well he sure showed that truckers are not assholes.

Drive-By Truckers tickets to the summer concert tour go on sale TODAY! I’ll be at the box office tonight, for a different show. How convenient!
What? This isn’t about Truckers?
Wow. Former Doper just so happens to delurk after a long absence just to insult a newb who inadvertently summons him to a thread that he participated in years earlier. He gets butthurt and promptly commits suicide-by-mod. WTFH?
Full moon.
And Magiver weighs in too,
I’m not interested in that thread, but Magiver often pisses me off with his intransigence and pseudo-expertise on virtually everything, so let me at least indulge in a bit of pedantry related to that quote:
That is not at all the metaphorical meaning of “wheelhouse”.
“The rapping industry”? There is indeed such a thing as “rap”, and a “rap music industry”, but the only “rapping” that should ever be spoken about is in this context:
Once upon a midnight dreary,
while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—
While I nodded, nearly napping,
suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping,
rapping at my chamber door.
Its ranks – its!! “It’s” is a contraction of “it is”.
One can, in moments of leisure, pass the time. But any purported organized activity that helps pass the time is a “pastime”.
</pedantry>
They say, “Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence."
I believe Magiver is both incompetent and malicious.
As I understand it (and Wikipedia apparently agrees), “rapping” is a perfectly appropriate word to describe what people like Kendrick Lamar do. What other verb would you recommend instead?
You would say “rap industry”, just like the “rock industry” and “jazz industry”. We don’t refer to a “rocking industry” or a “jazzing industry”.

Nor does anyone refer to a Rap or Rock or Jazz industry. Those are all genres within the music industry. It’s like referring to the Chardonnay industry.
Though “Rap Industry” sounds like a good name for a music act.
It’s also apparently the name of a hip-hop/R&B magazine.
It’s not used as often but it is used. Search up “rock industry” or “jazz industry”. Or “rap industry”, for that matter.
