I don’t think it’s that. I think he’s got no accomplishments to his name, but he does have a vinyl collection and a neck beard, and that makes him a True Authority On Music. There’s not much to his identity beyond that. So when these fake geek girls come along and dare to suggest that they like some music that he doesn’t have teh wisdom on, he’s gotta guard the gates–because without his True Authority, what is he?

But while my guess is a complete fabrication, yours is 100% accurate. We all remember those types from college and our 20s, when you’d nod politely and quickly walk away to find someone interesting to talk to. I don’t encounter them so much these days.

Mr.Duality is pouting because he didn’t get the answers he wanted in his thread about his father’s estate being used up in caring for … wait for it … his father. People were nasty to him. Nobody needs to be sympathetic to his father because he has lived a full life, and I guess it’s ok if he spends the end of his life in squalor (these are my words, not his). He’s been around here long enough not to have expected anything less than the brutal truth. I guess he’s too close to the problem to appreciate the feedback. I wish his father well.
I wish Mr. Duality well. Losing your father, bit-by-bit is pretty horrible. I don’t wish him a healthy inheritance, though. I’m happy that taxpayers chip in so the ill elderly don’t end up freezing to death, but i don’t see any compelling reason why those elderly who can afford their care shouldn’t pay for it.
(If it were a spouse using up all the savings that both depended on, I’d feel a bit differently. I think the law does, too.)

I could sympathize with him for the reason that at the end of a life it comes down to paying upwards of 6-10 k a month to a for profit corporation for an apartment that is basically a studio with no kitchen facilities. Sure the help comes in to do try and do the light housekeeping and laundry and your meals are provided.
But unless you live nearby and check on them, a lot of that housekeeping shit aint getting done. Now you’re taking squalor. It’s practically daylight robbery. Would any you pay 6k a month for a studio with a meal plan?
