Surf and turf again tonight, with snap peas, breadsticks and kiwi fruit. Greek frittata tomorrow - probably with salad and bread.
The clan are all over the place so an individual dinner tonight. I have a baked potato in the air fryer to see how that works out, toppings of sour cream, a fresh chopped jalapeno, some olives and Tillamook aged cheese. Gin and tonic for refreshing the palete.
Happy Friday all y’all.
Just leftovers tonight, but fine leftovers from Chinese takeout last night. I love this place, and it’s just up the street. They have a terrific “house fried rice” with chicken, pork, and shrimp, and they have great chicken wings and General Tsao chicken, all regular staples for us. But absolutely the best of all for me personally is Singapore Noodles. It’s at least as good, if not better, than the Singapore Noodles I had years ago in a downtown Vietnamese restaurant and have never been able to find since – until now. It’s made with curried rice noodles, shrimp, onion, chicken, and many other things. It closely resembles the pic below. My only problem is that it’s so damn addicting in flavour and texture that it’s hard to stop eating it! I would normally put hot sauce on it as the picture suggests, but they make it with enough curry to give it a good kick, so it doesn’t really need it.

My absolute favourite dish! There was a place in Winnipeg (Foon Hai?) that made a killer Singapore style noodle! No hot sauce needed, and oodles of delicious shrimp and BBQ pork. I dream abut it sometimes.
Glad to hear it’s not just me! I love the texture and taste of firm noodles, I love curry, and I love the general idea of Asian stir-fry and its mix of hot-fried interesting ingredients. This dish perfectly combines all three!
Grilled shrimp served with haluski.
Well, my little hen was a failure for me. I think the glaze was tasty, but the instructions said to put it on in the last 20 minutes only. I think this was a big mistake. The hen was tasteless. I threw it out and ate the not so great Cole slaw I made.
But my dessert turned out ok, in spite of, or maybe even because of, all the errors I made. My cream wouldn’t get fluffy so I needed to find a use for the pureed sweetened strawberries which were intended for a mousse. So I made a lemon posset and then reduced the berries for a topper. Very satisfying dessert. And no chocolate! (that’s a BIG deal for me)
I’m getting my covid shot today and then my grandkids for the afternoon, so it’s probably in-out burgers today.
A friend occasionally shoots pheasants/quail/grouse. He cleans them and gives them to me.
My go-to for game birds is to wrap them in bacon, put them in a casserole dish, then pour cream of mushroom canned soup over them. Bake and serve.
I used one that had apricot jam and soy sauce and some other spices. It was tasty, it just went on so late that it didn’t flavor the bird. I think anyway.
It could just be me. My taste buds have some issues.
Last night was smashburgers and spinach salad. Tonight shall be wings in the air fryer. It’s new to me, so any tips would be appreciated.
Last night my sweetie made homemade pesto, which we ate on spirals with rosemary bread. We’re still moving and getting the old house ready to sell, so we’ll be having it again tonight.
Home made pesto is the best and just so quick and easy and very tolerant to quantity ratios.
It indeed is. I didn’t know how true it was until after I was married, and my wife’s love of “Italian macaroni and cheese” led her to make it. Smooth and creamy, and she’ll over garlic it for me if I make puppy dog eyes and beg.
But we’re out of pesto now. So it was a toasted ham+cheese sandwich tonight, accompanied by a Real Ale Boom Box Double IPA, and another one for dessert.
Chicken kapama and egg noodles tonight, with strawberries. Tomorrow is lasagna made with spicy chicken sausage, one of my faves.
SWMBO’s infamous mac and cheese tonight with old cheddar, fruilano and a generous portion of parmigiano reggiano with cream and butter. Leftover sex in a pan for dessert and a nice bottle of Kirkland stick wine to go with.
I planned to have lobster and a mix of sautéed zucchini and yellow squash, but it went in the trash instead. I’m very new to cooking lobster and I didn’t know I had to remove a vein. At least I think that was a vein. I may have to stick to Red lobster from now on.
Also I think my granddaughter played with the refrigerator dial so the squash froze.
Oh well, In and Out it is.
It was breakfast for dinner tonight. Eggs, bacon, frozen hash browns from Trader Joe’s, and their canned biscuits. Worked out well, looking forward to making egg+bacon sandwiches from the leftover biscuits tomorrow evening.
Ah, brinner!
I’m pooped after a long stretch of work without a day off, so dinner tonight was a bit minimalist: a thick-ass piece of ham steak (featuring a ginormous fat cap) and some baby gold potatoes. Seared the former and then sauteed the latter in the fat … then added butter, just in case the ham fat wasn’t greasy and salty enough.
One must be careful about such matters.
Truly! Tonight will be battered haddock fillets and baked fries. Maybe frozen mixed veg to go along. Easy night.
Obscenely thick tuna steaks seared briefly on the grill, served with braised carrots, fennel, and apples.
The carrots, fennel, and apple was my invention last night. I’ll do it again!
