What's For Dinner Tonight: Episode 2021 – A New Hope

My gf took Kizzy and Simi to “school” last night. She dropped me off at a brewery where I drank beer and ate food. She picked me up three hours later.

I’m sorry, can you remind me which pies these are? I vaguely remember it being one which is only available locally to you, but if they’re frozen…maybe I’ll find them? I love me a good meat pie.

Dinner tonight…I was stuck at the school til 9:30 last night so I picked up some fried chicken at the grocery store one the way home. I’ll have the rest of that tonight.

They’re made by The Pie Commission. They’re sold frozen in some supermarkets, and directly by the makers in their shop in south Etobicoke. If you find them, I especially recommend the beef rib and the chicken & mushroom pot pie. They come in rustic-looking brown boxes, but the pies themselves are vacuum-packed in heavy plastic.

Doesn’t look like they come to my side of Lake Ontario. Oh well. I’ll still keep my eye out.

After a big tuna salad sandwich and potato chips for lunch followed by many Caesars, I still can’t get enthused about dinner. There’s leftover fettuccine with rosé sauce but for tonight I think maybe just a few Thai basil shrimp spring rolls. Or a few chicken wings. Or a few pork sausage rolls. Or some mozzarella cheese sticks. Notice what all these latter options have in common? Yep, they’re ready in minutes in the air fryer, perfect for an impulsive snack-hound like me!

I’ll probably wake up hungry tomorrow and consume the entirety of the leftover fettuccine for lunch! :yum:

Jalapeno and pepperoni pizza from South Polk Pizza. It was just as wonderful as I imagined it would be.

Strip steak, baked potato, asparagus and clementines with good red wine to drink.

I’ve got the remains of a chicken carcass in the fridge and need to think about what to do with it. It might be another dinner sometime this week, or just go in the freezer.

I’m attempting chicken shawarma in the air fryer. Made Tzatziki sauce and tahini sauce to go over… can’t have too many sauces. Served with warmed pitas and romaine. Haven’t decided if’n I’ll fill the pitas or use them as wraps.

I’ve been wracked with indecision for hours, after contemplating and then deciding not to pick up a burger while I was out. I can think of at least 8 options for dinner, two of which involve fries, so there’s the further decision of whether to make my own or use the frozen fries in the freezer. So, at least 10 options.

I’m currently thinking fish & chips: beer-battered haddock and fries, with tartar sauce and malt vinegar. I’m thinking the frozen 5-minute fries because they’re quick & easy and the air fryer has just been cleaned – homemade fries leave a lot of oil.

Or I can just sit here and keep drinking Caesars, and eventually the nutrition in all the tomato and clam juice and vodka will constitute dinner!

Let us know how it turns out! I don’t think I’ve had chicken shawarma since over a decade ago when a couple of Iranian brothers were doing renovations at my old house. They were so proud of their food heritage that when they went out for lunch, they insisted on bringing me back some of that good food.

My sweetie had picked up a package of “Shrimp Boom Bah” at Trader Joe’s. I’d been eyeing it for a while, and we decided to finally have it tonight. Really good, will buy again.

Thai fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce

The shawarma was quite tasty. I ended up doing it in the convection oven instead of the air fryer. I did skewers of chicken on a grate over a cookie sheet. Into warmed pitas with lettuce and tzatziki and tahini sauces. The chix was marinated in yoghurt, lemon juice and a bunch of spice blends from Penzey.

Tonight is gonna be a patty melt with a salad.

Glad the chicken shawarma turned out well!

And now, on to worrying about dinner for tonight! I know Catholics are supposed to abstain from meat on Fridays, and I imagine that goes double for Good Friday and perhaps today, Easter Sunday. I’m inclined to have a beef rib pot pie for dinner tonight, but does that mean I go to hell for all eternity? Religion is complicated.

Tonight’s gonna be ham, home made biscuits, and parmesan and rosemary carrots.

Grilled cheese sandwich - gruyere and Onion Jack cheese, healthy smear of sun-dried tomato pate, sprinkling of Aleppo pepper and pan-grilled in olive oil. Washed down with an Uncle Nearest Bonded and water.

Yum!

This sounds excellent.

We had big fat chicken salad sandwiches, small salads and clementines.

Damn, the ham and carrots were delicious, but the biscuits were divine. I ate three.

Tuna melt on an English muffin.

Last night was a French feast. I made mussels and French fries, served with a bottle of good French wine.

Last night was more ham n’ biscuits.
