Too hot to think about food. Probably a big salad with peanut dressing.
Cooked a vegtable stir fry and rice on the side . Parents in law have gone to stay with BiL for a couple of weeks so I’ll be taking a rest from cow and Melbec, I probably need it.
Thinking a soy curls curry of some type will be on the cards this week.
Sous vide pulled pork finished on the grill to get a nice bark. A little coleslaw on top and Bob’s your Mother’s brother. A Pelican Point Lager for me and a glass of Mclaren Vale Petit Verdot for SWMBO. Lemon ice wafers for dessert. Salad tomorrow as the warm weather continues…
Takeout pepperoni pizza from Dewey’s with hot pepper sprinkles, a Caesar salad and a glass of ice water. For afters, fresh raspberries from our backyard bushes and some vanilla ice cream.
Copper River Salmon on the grill, grilled sliced potatoes, garlic bread, and cabbage slaw with peanut sauce.
Last night I grilled some cod for fish tacos. Tonight stir fried veggies , rice and some grilled chickens from Sunday night.
Tonight I was feeling very unmotivated to cook, but really couldn’t justify ordering takeout with so much food in the fridge. So I improvised with some random bits of things in the fridge that needed to be used up and made some pasta:
1 large thinly sliced onion, slowly caramelized in olive oil
Maybe 1.5 cups crimini mushrooms, thinly sliced
1 t minced garlic
A few grinds black pepper
A glug of medium sherry
Maybe a tablespoon of butter
~ 5 oz. leftover sirloin steak, diced into 1/2" pieces
Maybe 5 oz. spaghetti, cooked up in a separate pot
1 c. shredded Parmesan
2 c. shredded arugula
Briefly drain the pasta, then throw in everything else and stir. Cover and let the residual heat melt the Parmesan and wilt the arugula. Toss and enjoy! It was pretty tasty if I may say so, and there are probably 2 meals of leftovers.
A medium-rare burger and fries with a hard cider at a pub.
Grilled cheese and bacon on sourdough bread, tater tots with ketchup, a Truth IPA and a glass of ice water. Later, some candied pecans and more ice water.
Tonight is smoked baby back ribs, cornbread, and green salad.
Tuna sandwich and coleslaw with Asian peanut sauce.
Sauted broccoli, pine nuts, with some al dente penne stired in at the end and lots of parmesan.
The wine cupboard is empty so I guess water to accompany.
Cashew chicken (from scratch) and for desert a berry-almond crumble made with four kinds of fresh berries (blue, black, rasp and straw), topped with vanilla ice cream. I’m exhaused.
Homemade chicken soup (with croutons, but no veggies or noodles tonight - just yummy broth) plus seared tuna with a thrown-together sauce + an extremely liberal shake of sesame seeds.
Augmented by a slice or two of prosciutto, because there’s an open package in the fridge, and just 'cuz.
I may scrounge around for a bit of cheese before giving in to Mr. Sandman.
Why, yes, I do greatly enjoy animal products of all kinds. Why do you ask?
Tonight I’ll be making a pizza in my new oven. It’ll be the first real cooking in it. I’ve warmed few things up in there, but this will be the first real use. Made the dough last night, I’ll make some raw sauce, and use plenty of fresh basil. Might even make some pesto. Feta and mozz.
Dinner out: a small Caesar salad, sesame pasta with breaded shrimp and scallions, garlic rolls, ice water, a slice of Key lime pie and a cup of decaf.
You may want to think about running the oven at 400-500 for an hour or so to burn off any residue or storage protective oils etc they have in there .
If you were just warming stuff previously that may not have cleaned it out and you dont want any unpleasant smelling fumes to interfere with your first pizza in the new oven experience.
We had a new oven a few months back and ran it through a heating cycle , had to run the extractor fan as it got a bit stinky for a while .
Oh good call. I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks.
ETA on re-read that sounds kinda sarcastic. Totally not.
Careful if you have pet birds nearby. I know a woman who had several parrots. During an extreme cold spell her furnace stopped working. Fearing for her birds, she ran to a bigbox store and bought a bunch of electric heaters. Turns out they coat the wire elements with Teflon (polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)). When she turned all the heaters on, that protective coating burned off. It was enough in a small, sealed room to kill her birds.
So it’s Ribfest here and even though I made ribs the other night tonight is going to be slow smoked beef ribs, cornbread, beans, and coleslaw and a bottle of Stag’s Leap Cab Sauv. Sliced watermelon for dessert. It’s gonna be epic!
