Grilled skewered shrimp marinated in tangy Japanese salad dressing, with rice. I use the same marinade for grilled mushrooms, too, but there I add a bit of teriyaki sauce.
Interesting side note. I made the rice with Campbell’s vegetable broth, to which I usually add dried porcini mushrooms for extra body. This time I didn’t because it didn’t seem compatible with shrimp. I was worried that it might still be a bit overpowering to the relatively delicate shrimp flavour and maybe I should have gone with plain white rice, but it was just fine, with a very light flavour and almost white in appearance. I’m surprised in retrospect about how much those dried porcini mushrooms change both the colour and the flavour of the vegetable rice the way I usually make it. It’s powerful stuff!
Been out of Indian spices and meaning to hit an Indian grocery to stock up. Found myself driving by one while on another errand this past week, so I stocked up on whole cumin, coriander, cardamom, fenugreek, powdered turmeric, dried red chiles, and a couple others I’m forgetting. Looking forward to toasting up the whole spices in a pan, then grinding up and blooming them in some ghee to make a nice chicken curry tonight.
No danger of that here. My dog is very short. Long ago when I had my black Labrador Lucy she counter-surfed half a 9x13 pan of chocolate cake! And didn’t drop the pan. (I cut off the part that she ate from! ) She was sneaky, she was. I miss her terribly.
Other dangers of baked bread include: dropping the glass loaf pan when taking it out of the oven. It shattered into a million pieces. A week later, I’m still finding tiny fragments! I was SO disappointed! The house smelled divine, and I didn’t have any bread. AND I cut the bottom of my foot trying to escape the kitchen to get a broom. That was my mom’s glass loaf pan, dammit. I still have a second one.
LASAGNA!!! (Ricotta and mozzarella). OMG. Side salads for healthy reasons, but we gorged on lasagna. New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPA for dessert.
We had some delicious BLT’s made with bacon from a Hog that a friend of mine raised fir supper tonight.
Tomorrow looks like homemade venison Cheesesteaks!
This was a new food truck for us, so we did a review of the food which my gf added to a list she keeps on her phone. We rate food trucks 1 - 5 stars. The 5 star trucks are ones we will seek out for dinner.
This truck got a solid 2 stars. Interestingly, I don’t recall ever having a better gyro. Nor can I recall having a worse gyro. It just seems like all gyros are pretty much ok and indistinguishable from one another. Oh well, we were at a brewery so there was plenty to drink.
