A Waffle House run for the first time in years: a bacon cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and ketchup, and a side of hash browns (I could’ve sworn they offered french fries).
Curry chicken salad from the deli counter.
Nope, nothing but hash browns served different ways at Waffle House as far as I can remember.
Dang, it may have been 30 years since the last time I ate at one of those…
Tonight I’ll be putting the meat that was left over from the new years cow grilling extravaganza and has been in the fridge into a chilli with the sorry looking veg that are also in the fridge and plenty of kidney beans.
Also will be finishing up the various cheeses and dips we bought .
Have a decent Zinfandel to accompany
You should go back! The menu is much healthier now.
NOT.
Just started a pizza dough for tomorrow’s dinner. I like to let it ferment a bit before cooking. Tonight will be a big ol salad and a nice baguette.
Went to a nice Italian restaurant tonight with my family. Fresh bread with olive oil and grated parmesan, a tossed salad with raspberry vinaigrette, veal parmesan with spaghetti, and a shared piece of chocolate torte, and lots of ice water.
Dinner hash: Red’n’gold potatoes, sausage AND bacon, yellow’n’green onions, plus garlic … so tasty!
Tonight we went out to eat with some of the extended family. We went to Meso Maya, a local Mexican (they say not Tex-Mex. If not, it’s probably really Nuevo Tex-Mex) chain. I won’t run down what everyone had, but we had asada tostaditas (best nachos, ever) for an appetizer. My darlin’ and I both had serrano chicken enchiladas, and I had a couple of Negra Modelos.
It was so good, that might actually compete with a pizza from Mama’s Pizza if I were confronted with picking a last meal.
I must say that looks marvelously yummy! I’m inspired to try my hand at making something like that soon.
That looks so tasty. Bacon AND sausage? Is that keilbasa?
Leek soup to start. (I think leeks are under appreciated. I make a splendid leek and Swiss chard tart).
Then burgers. A one pound steak trimmed, ground, and formed into two patties. Sous vide 12 hours, rare. Torch seared. Served on a bun with a garnish/condiment bar. Oh, and smoked Gouda cheese on the burgers.
Fried chicken, baked brussell sprouts with parmesan, and chardonnay.
Dessert-strawberries with sugar.
Takeout BBQ from my dad’s favorite place: pork ribs, corn on the cob, baked potato, baked beans, coleslaw, Texas toast and a glass of ice water. Later, a slice of Key Lime pie and some milk.
Ina Garten’s fennel and sausage rigatoni. Fennel put me off, but man, this stuff turns out soooo good. The man was wrinkling his face when I told him what was on the plate, but he shoveled it all in.
Yesterday was steamed shrimp, air-fried potatoes, and blueberries.
Today was meatloaf (and I agree with kayaker about leeks being underrated - they’re in the meatloaf I just made), the last of the red cabbage, a small piece of green tomato bread, and sliced apples.
Tonight, for various reasons we wanted comfort food. My wife spotted a philly cheese steak place we hadn’t had, so I went and grabbed a couple. Hers with mushrooms and mine with pepperoncini, mushrooms and jalapenos. Really good, we have other cheese steak places around that we haven’t had, but I’m sure we’ll probably return to this one again.
Yes ma’am, it sure was! Having both was gilding the lily a bit but hey, ya only live once.
Tonight was my late shift at work, so I only got home at 2 am and wound down enough to get hungry a bit before 3.
Currently snacking on multigrain bread with lotsa butter, plus the occasional Cool Ranch Dorito (hey, don’t judge!) while waiting on my little frozen thingie to bake.
It’s the shepherds pie from here:
There may be a bowl of cereal in my near future as well.
Why The Hell Not Puerto Rican Adobo Chipotle Chicken Tacos. I had a small can of chipotle peppers in sauce and a cabinet and refrigerator filled with Puerto Rican stuff. Made cracklins with the skin to crumble on top. I got a pic if you want to see it.
