Without going into the background, I recently had a conversation which revealed I had a very different definition of a blow-job from my “friend”.
I’d argue that any oral stimulation of the penis counted, as long as it lasted more than a few seconds, but his definition required seeing it through to orgasm.
So, which do you agree with? Any oral contact is oral sex, or is completion required?

Well, any oral contact counts as oral sex, but for it to be considered an actual blow job I think it would have to go on for some duration; until orgasm or at least finishing manually. How’s that for clinical?
If you’re not willing to work at it, then don’t call it a job.

I am 64 years old and have been with a lot of women. Most of the time I would say a good blow job is foreplay leading to sex. I may very well go back for some more oral when it is time to finish but I view blow jobs primarily as foreplay. Exception would be if I was paying for one, then it would have to be to completion.
I don’t think it needs to end with the person attached to the penis coming. If the person attached to the mouth blows their partner, then finishes them with their hands, or breasts (if applicable), or lets them fuck whichever orifice the two feel like getting involved, or if the owner of the penis ends up not coming at all for whatever reason…that’s still a blowjob.
However, a bj isn’t any oral stimulation of the penis. If the owner of the involved penis was the one actively doing things, then they have facefucked their partner, not received a blowjob. For it to be a bj, the person with the mouth needs to be the active partner.
Blow Job to me would include the ‘blowing’ in other words the male ejaculating but also including failed attempts at it and needing to switch to a different form or stopping. the intent of a blow job is to have the man ejaculate via oral.
Other then that it would be oral foreplay but no I would not consider that a blowjob. YMMV

I’d agree with this. However, I still feel that a blowjob involves her performing oral on me, and me climaxing in her mouth as a result of the oral*. Whether or not she used her hands during the act is irrelevant. If it was a prelude to intercourse or some other type of release, it is “she blew me for a while, and then…”
*Like this morning, for instance.

The word “job” implies a work that is complete from start to finish. There needs to be a pay-off for it to be an honest-to-god blow-job.
I am in complete agreement. A blow-job has a beginning, a middle and an end. It is a discrete, finite thing. It is a one-sided thing; for his pleasure.* Oral stimulation, fellatio, whatever, can be parts of foreplay and general sexy funtime, but a blow-job is a blow-job. Same goes for a hand-job.
*I do, of course, enjoy giving a good old blow-job, but the pleasure mostly comes from knowing the pleasure I’m giving.
