drad dog you have a little weirdness going on. Your avatar is visible in this thread, but not in the ATMB thread. In my case the avatar showed in ALL posts, including old ones. Not sure what is happening.
Got it now. I turned it on in options. I think I’m resolved now. It should be showing up in all posts now incl older ones AFAIK.
It is funny that I saw avatars (some of dead people) before I opted in though, at least I think I did.
Yeah, visible in all threads now.
A few days ago I was reading a thread and one poster had an avatar. I was shocked. Then I looked in ATMB, & saw that Tuba had turned them on.
I don’t hate avatars in general, but they seem out of place here.
Well, specifically, it’s a swirl of Mr. Softee type soft chocolate ice cream (or perhaps frozen yogurt or custard).
… what else could it possibly be?!?
I’ve noticed its easier to identify a Zombie thread quicker now that avatars are visible.

They make it easier to navigate through a thread.
The only problem is at 50x50 it’s hard to see how pornographic my avatar is.(you know, if you’re into that kind of thing.)

I like them and if I didn’t I could opt not to see them. My only beef is 50 x 50 is small and that some of avatars being used aren’t suited for 50x50.
I’m not happy with avatars turned on even if I can’t see them. But I don’t want to appear a bad sport. I’ll even do something nice. Whoever’s idea it was to do this, I know a priest I can get to marry your parents.
Have him do yours first, as soon as you can identify them. 
I just found out about them tonight and turned them on. I’ll leave them on for about a week and then decide if I really care one way or the other.
Leaning towards turning them off again.

I might renew my membership if Members were allowed animated gifs. As is, the 50x50 size is just right for a 7-pointed star. (Good thing my name isn’t Decimus, or even Octavius — then I’d be campaigning for 60-x-60 or at least 55-x-55.)
My problem is that I have a perfectionist’s OCD. Do the green and cyan in my avatar show as too similar on your monitor? The orange should be a tad more yellowish, shouldn’t it?
They do have a couple of practical uses. Besides aesthetic one. Which is debatable. Primarily I found them helpful locating my own posts. Just keep them small and simple. No gifs, please.

I’m rather enjoying them, but at the same time, I’m glad that they are not mandatory.
I’m a member of another board where they are, and if you don’t put up your own, you get the default one. So I put up my own over there–I don’t like the default one–but I’m glad I have the choice here.
Like I said, I’m enjoying them here; but for now, I’ll do without. After all, what would I do except display flatware that we all use every day?
