What's your "type"?

I’ve noticed that, too. I’ve been asked it on so many first dates that my “I’ve never had a tattoo or piercing, and I doubt I ever will” answer is pretty much reflexive at this point.

I like geeky and/or broody lookin’ guys. I like a very skinny to lean and athletic body shape. I love dark hair and dark eyes. If you can pull off a neat little dark beard, all the better, but that’s not a requirement. Also, glasses are nice. Tall or short, I’m not bothered. I’m short myself (5’1) so most people seem pretty tall to me.

I don’t meet very many ( ) but I find I often think Jewish men are attractive.

I say this as an indicator of what I’m usually attracted to on physical criteria alone, but in the past I’ve been attracted to guys from right across the physical spectrum, even the opposite of what I described - blond and chubby  . But usually if I’m attracted to someone who doesn’t look something like my first description, it’s because of non-physical things.

Sounds a bit like me and mine. I like tallish but shorter than me, dark haired, fair skinned women with a curvy body. Think Lucy Lawless–how can that NOT be a porn star name? When I met her, my wife was short, blonde, and skinny. Despite that she’s just right for me. I really don’t know what her type is. I suspect I’m not it, but I’ve never really asked her. She likes Hugh Jackman which is pretty much the opposite of me. One overriding factor for me is she must have a pretty face and nice eyes. A pretty face will trump all sorts of body issues.

My type - clever and witty. The guys I’ve gone for have had absolutely nothing in common in terms of height, weight, colouring, etc, but they have all made me go: “Oh my, you’re brighter and sharper than I am and you’re going to make sure I know it”.

Crusoe’s type is very slim (I’m probably the biggest woman he finds attractive - and I’m not big), dark or red-haired, naturally, girl-next-door pretty, and clever in a slightly off-beat, slightly eccentric way.

Luckily we suit each other perfectly!

My first crush was Robert Urich, waaaay back when in SWAT. This made me a freak among my classmates, as this serious, dark haired guy was Not Cool or something.

I didn’t realize that Ice was Mad Martigan until my brother pointed it out, I can’t stand Tom Cruise and had been looking at the planes only. I still think Val Kilmer looks like shite in blonde.

Patrick Swayze. Keanu Reeves. As eye candy, as I have no idea how they are in person.

I prefer shortish guys and will take overweight over skinny, don’t like blondes. I like strong dudes and fall head over heels for a sharp wit. A Real Nose is a plus, I’m used to Mediterranean noses so pug noses always try to give me the giggles (so far I’ve managed to avoid breaking into giggles whenever I see a group of Swedes).

Mom was nuts about James Stewart, I love pointing out that Dad looked a lot like him cos she blushes SOOOO red while vehemently denying that had anything to do with anything

When I was at university, a girl had a big crush on me, and my girlfriend (being 150 miles away) was somewhat worried. I explained that it was no problem, as the other girl was a tall, skinny blonde, and I generally go for short, fat brunettes. She was annoyed and relieved in equal measure, I believe :).

I like my women like I like my coffee: thick and black.

(Disclaimer: I hate coffee.)

Seriously, though.

The women I notice first are the stocky women, especially the ones with a slight double chin, big breasts, wide hips, and a rounded stomach. Especally if they are redheads, or East or South Asian; though black, brunette, or blonde women like this are also very attractive. (When blonde, I call this the “Polish peasant look”. )

Actually, I find women of all types attractive. There are certain slender dark women that very quickly get my attention.

When I get closer, though… smoking is an instant turnoff. As are foul language, wedding rings, fundamentalism, and uncritical belief in whatever conspiracy theory came down the pike today.

Intelligence, creativity, and the ability to make things: to handle power tools, math, electronics, cloth, lether, metal, glass, whatever: these are extremely sexy.

I never thought I had a type, but at some point I noticed almost all the women I dated were tall, very pretty, had big racks, and were artistically talented. It was never a conscious thing, but it was almost always true, and the onll exceptions were two girls who weren’t tall (but met the other criteria.) The artistic bit is especially curious, as I have very little interest or skill in the arts, and yet it just came up again and again; actresses, painters and musicians.

Hair color and weight didn’t seem to be criteria; I’ve dated blondes, redheads amd brunettes of all sizes.

Threads like these usually make me wince because I never fit anyone’s “type.” Usually I fall short on the height or weight requirements (also not being a blonde, redhead or Asian doesn’t help). Thanks for making me feel better, Sunspace. My email is in my profile

Oddly enough, I like the exact same guy Jodi does. Interesting that I always find her to be a poster whose ideas I agree with…now it turns out we agree on “type of guy” as well.

A woman that can cook. It would also be good if she can remember where I put that envelope with that number on it.

moonstarssun, aside from a dark complexion, you’ve managed to describe my boyfriend.

I’m watching you.

I dont think I have much of a “type” when it comes to men, though. Thinking through my exes, most of them are handy with computers, but thats about all they have in common. Clean hair, maybe?

Someone who can hold a conversation.

Oddly, I’m just realizing that’s something you can’t tell at a first glance. Most other ‘types’ listed here tend to be visually-oriented. I’m wondering why I’m not ‘wired’ that way…

I’m pretty sure the OP asked for visual types. Let me ask him.

:: mutters neurotically to self ::

Yep. The OP asked for purely physical things.

My husband. Brown hair, very intelligent, goatee, glasses, medium build…rowr!

The only purely physical thing I go for consistently is long hair on guys, and if the guy looks like a metalhead - like, perhaps wearing a good band shirt, or a leather jacket. Other than that, chubby, skinny, dark, fair, blah blah - I have no other consistent “thing” that I’m attracted to.

The other thing I like, though, is if he looks friendly. It’s that look in his eyes and smile, and I generally have to talk to him or see him talking to someone elseto see it.

A dark-haired lass with a positive outlook on life.

I seem to trade-off between management consultants and investment bankers. I swore off traders a long time ago, though.

My sister once joked that my type was “Lehman Bros.”

Sweet. Geeky. No (little) makeup. Slightly offbeat clothes. Goofy/quirky sense of humor. Kind of tomboyish with a girlish flair, if that makes any sense.

Short hair, preferably brunette. Kind of petite, small boobs. Nice legs.

Also geeky / nerdy, kind and thoughtful, gentle, with a good sense of humour and a lot of patience–a bit shy, too.

I seem to go for guys with dark hair a lot, but I’m not averse to blonds. I’d rather they were on the skinnier side than too muscled.

He has to be tall. I’m at the tallish end of things myself (around 5’9"), and while not fat, I’d definitely be considered ‘curvy’. So I like a guy that can make me feel little and girlie occasionally, and who I can still be slightly shorter than when I wear heels. I’d say 99% of guys I’m attracted to are at least 6 feet tall, and the majority of them measure over 6’3". They can’t be too scrawny though, average to slightly chunky is best.

I also love dark hair, especially if it’s curly or messy. Dark eyes, maybe glasses. Scruffy facial hair is nice as well. I’ve got the biggest crush on Seth Rogen, who almost perfectly encapsulates the ‘type’ I’m attracted to.

Oh, and out of a combination of long term crushes, passing infatuations and boyfriends, more than 10 have played the guitar. So I’m guessing I can add that to my criteria as well.

ETA: and nerdy! I can’t believe I forgot nerdy!
