When (and how often) do you shower?

Just often enough to keep the daily-shower zealots from insulting me in public. I don’t plug in Glade or use Febreeze dryer towls, either. I don’t define “clean” as smelling like those commercial products.

Workout at 6:30am and shower at 8:30.

I shower every evening. I can’t imagine not doing so – I’d feel so grody if I didn’t. The one time when I was in the hospital I had to go almost a week just sponge bathing and I was ready to climb the walls I wanted a shower so bad. Plus my hair is the type that has to be washed everyday.

No offense, but I really don’t think I’d want to stand downwind of some of you. Some people insist they don’t smell – but it’s really hard to smell yourself.

First I turn on the water and allow it to heat to a scalding temperature. Then I back off the heat, just so it heats my skin without causing pain. I like to let the warm sensual spray play upon my neck and upper back to loosen the tired ligaments in that region. Then I slowly turn and let the hot water play upon my upper chest, stroking it from my shouderblades down to my pelvis. After that it’s time to wet my head and face, softening it up for a good shave. There’s nothing like the bite of a razor into a stand of well-softened 2-day stubble. Once that’s accomplished I rinse my entire head, letting the hair conditioner run off to moisturize my freshly-shaved face. After that I squeeze some liquid soap onto a rag and let it luxuriously caress the rest of my body, lingering carefully over the more pungent bits of armpite, arse, and scrotum. Then I make sure to scrub my feet, especially between the toes. After that I towel myself off and collapse into bed, completely satisfied.

Is that more or less what you are looking for? I can add even more detail if desired.

I like to go to bed clean, so short-ish, coolish water showers daily, at night.

Ok, sometimes it’s cold and I use hot water and luxuriate. My dermatologist hates that. (I have eczema, it gets hard to control in the winter.)

Hair gets washed every couple of days. Sometimes daily in summer, depending on level of sweatiness.

I’ve asked several people I trust about the odor issue - it’s not a problem.

Due to my skin problems I don’t sweat as much as normal (which is one reason I have very little tolerance for heat), nor do I produce normal amounts of oil, so it may be I’m producing less for odor-causing bacteria to feed on. Frankly, I’d rather be more normally stinky than deal with my skin problems. And I do the the “pits and bits” and well as the face daily at least once.

I shower in the evening before I go to bed, and I don’t sweat when I sleep so I don’t feel dirty in the morning. Plus that would have meant waking up earlier when I was working. I also shower after mowing the lawn and stuff like that.
Being Jewish I’m excused from all exercise (according to St. Fran, anyway) but I burn more calories fidgeting than most people do in the gym so I’m okay.
I wash my hair once a week, only. I’m not thrilled about putting chemicals or gunk on it, which may be why I still have it all at 65. And I mean all - 0 bald spots.

My annual shower is coming up any day now. Maybe next month.

Yes, I work at home. Why do you ask?

Then how do you know if you smell OK?

Quite honestly, I don’t smell anybody, except those walking around with a cloud of store-bought chemicals wafting in the air behind them. And I know that I have a sense of smell that works perfectly, because I never miss someone who just came out of an Old Spice dip.

Day starts with a shower. I’ll take another if I’ve had a hard workout (which given my job is most days) when I get home.

My brother had open-heart surgery recently and yes, I was glad when he lived through it, and when he got up into a chair, and when he started walking a little. But I was ecstatic on his behalf when I heard he was heading to the first shower after surgery. What a relief it must have been.

Try any sort of geek convention then re-evaluate :stuck_out_tongue:

But to be fair, with geeks they (we) often live up to the stereotype of going for amounts of time measured in weeks between showers, and that’s when people do start to have that cloud of funk around them. The difference between 1-2 days is mostly psychological I think unless you’re really getting up close and personal with someone.

Some cons I have gone to were almost intolerable, you take something like the old con in Virginia Beach - it was late spring and hot, then you talk about walking around outside going from car to venue, then walking around inside, and then crowding 10 to 15 people around a couple tables in a con suite room to play some RPG, we are talking sweat city! Not to mention that some con/geeks do neglect bathing … or regular laundering of clothing [I have seen them do the pick up a piece of clothing from the floor or laundry bin and sniff it before putting it on … ugh.]

My cats have the same attitude, but at least they lick themselves all over. Is that what you do?

I shower in the morning unless I’ve been doing grubby, sweaty stuff during the day. Before getting married, I always showered before bed, but spousal unit is a morning showerer, and I adopted his habit.

I have to shower daily because I feel gross and grubby otherwise. We had a vacation once where I only got to shower once in 6 days - it was awful!!! First thing I did before we headed home was find a place where I could shower - ah, bliss!!

Every other morning. Unless I’ve done something sweaty/dirty like yardwork, then I usually shower right afterwards.

I learned in college that I need to do it every day, in the morning. I would sometimes be running late and try to go without one, or experiment with doing it at night. Neither worked out well.

Daily. I work from home so, basically whenever I get around to it. i usually try to get some early work done and then take a shower when I reach a stopping point.

I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I’ll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

I go to the gym every other day and shower thereafter. One of the benefits of self-employment.
