When did Sons of Anarchy jump the shark?

Jax’ accent is atrocious.

I’ve watched all of S4 and S5 there lately. What’s the deal with Juice? He seems like a treacherous worm. How has he lasted?

I didn’t mind the Irish episodes because it took the story outside the USA which is unusual for an American television series. However I totally agree with you about the Deus Ex Machina of the resolution to Season 4.

Apart from that I remain puzzled that such a small motorcycle gang has such strength and success. The members don’t seem to worry about fingerprints, witnesses, DNA, security cameras or the myriad evidential ways that criminals are usually caught.

It would have made more sense for the director to have a score of gang members rotating in the background and on runs, with the main characters forming an executive committee for command. Its all very well suggesting there are other chapters spread around but they’d only flourish if the Redwood Originals were a strong and significant group. They aren’t - in fact there are barely enough bikers in Charming to fit around the table.

Still, its an interesting series and I do enjoy it.

I’m annoyed that blondie’s elaborate plans rely on other characters behaving in very particular ways and with immaculate timing.

Which club?

I’m not sure if this is exactly what you meant, but to me, as stupid as the introduction of the CIA was, the worst part was that the drug king pins they’d been dealing with were actually CIA operatives. They should have had a scruffy white guy show up and say “hey, those drug lords are secretly working for us”, and it still would have been lazy and infuriating. But they had to go and have the drug lords show up in a vehicle and give the order to shut down the investigation, like they actually WERE CIA operatives. Something about that amped up the stupidity to more than I could take.

We’re a few episodes into Season 5 and I’m not sure if I think it has jumped or not. It’s so outlandish that we just go with the story (“willing suspension of disbelief”) but I will say that I had to look at IMDB to make sure that Tara was played by the same actress. She went from brooding, serious and never changing expression to animated, smiling and expressive after the birth of her & Jax’s son. I was so weirded out by the change in the character’s personality - my husband said it’s like they sent her to acting school between seasons.

That was just the icing on the cake of WTF that that whole storyline involved.

Look, I’m as suspicious of the CIA’s nefarious activities as the next non-American but I don’t think salaried employees of Uncle Sam are going to shoot rival drug dealers in the head in front of witnesses.

I’m surprised I’m enjoying it as much as I am, because Breaking Bad has really spoiled me as far as top-notch writers serving me really outlandish stories in a manner that makes it completely believable.

Maybe I just have the hots for Jax…

I really liked the show, and kind of still do…but what the heck is with the musical at the end of every episode?
I hear the music start look at the time and think to myself “Look out for the chicken stand Fonzie!” as some horrible version of some horrible song drones on while some horrible silent story telling is done.

Now in season I don’t know with Dave Navaro as a tough guy? What? I had to cheer at one point. Too many stand out guest appearances including High School Musical’s Ashley Tisdale? What? Robocop? Huh? And yes Henry Rollins.:smack:

As Jax would put it, sincere look pasted on, slightly damp or greasy blond hair swinging, short slashing gesture of the hand…

“That’s *not *gonna happen!”

Repeat several times a season no matter how many times the shark does get jumped.

I don’t understand the Henry Rollins problem… I thought he was absolutely terrific in his role and perfectly cast…?

I’d vote for the random death of Deputy Hale (caused by the actor wishing to leave the show) in season 3. The show was setting up some nice, thoughtful character work with Clay & Unser vs. Jax and Hale, part of the approach the show took in the first two seasons to examine the relationship between the Sons and Charming, and the shortcomings in the Old Guard as perceived by the New Guard. With Hale gone, Unser’s character drifted into being essentially a hatchet-man for Gemma instead of a reluctant co-conspirator who regretted getting in bed with the Sons and was trying to ensure that Charming would be cleaned up when he left office.

Looking back on seasons 1 and 2, it was a very different, and far superior, show. The death of Hale, along with the Irish nonsense, marks the transition.

what started as a badass MC is down to babies, and grandmas, mama drama. What the F#$K happen.

I like SOA but some of the stuff is flat out ridiculous. Like Why is Clay really still alive? Why did Opie really need to die? Why is Wendy around? Why have all this BS soap opera drama between Gemma & Tara? All of season 3 (IMO) was ridiculous. I knw the reasons as to why for most these questions but the reasons (IMO) are just stupid.

When the guns/drugs thing turned out to be a cia operation I just stopped watching. Just felt ripped off plot wise.

Or Korea.

Oh look, middle eastern men with thick accents who look like terrorists and exploit porn stars/prostututes to a different degree than SAMCRO does and there is conveniently a bathtub full of piss sitting around. I wonder what’s going to happen??!?

The last couple of seasons were bad. This season made me feel like a complete fool for ever enjoying a single minute of the series.

Yeah, thats another season (season 4) that was ridiculous.

X2.

I was never sold on the SoA as a “badass motorcycle club” in the first place, but I really think Sutter is better suited to melting down on twitter than writing quality television. Specifically, I don’t find his dialogue compelling or believable. Luckily he’s got a few really skilled actors (e.g., Perlman, Callie) who do their best with what they’re handed. I can only explain the show’s popularity by assuming that most fans fantasize about the romance of living as an outlaw and are drawn in by the premise rather than the show itself.

Honestly though, I think the series jumped the shark when they cast Charlie Hunnam. At least we got this out of it. http://jaxwalking.tumblr.com

LOL yeah Charlie Hunnam is a bit of a pretty boy for an outlaw biker. Its not a life which attracts high IQs. Sonny Barger included.

I also agree that some of Sutters writing is insufficently raw to be realistic - but at times he rises to the occasion, and there is some fine acting.

The biggest problem for me is trying to believe a lady surgeon who will have spent at least 9 years of her life studying and working under intense intellectual pressure, immediately lapses back into the bad old ways in Charming. It simply does not ring true.
