Where did I put my glasses?

You were in the kitchen trying to read a label, so check the cupboard. If you still can’t find them look inside the box of cereal.

I hate it when that happens.

Got to work the other day and realised I had ‘lost’ my el-cheapo 3 x mag glasses. I have never lost them before, as part of my morning ritual is to take them off, bung them in my bag and put my real (prescription) glasses on to drive to work.

So I had to wait for the stores to open @ 9.00 am to buy a new pair. Have you ever noticed that the sticker that indicates the magnification of the specs you want is really really small when yer’ as blind as a bat, and you can’t even see it without some glasses on already??

Oh, the old specs finally turned up between the seats in the car.

I buy plastic hooks, (that you peel the backing and stick them on the wall) and I use those for my car keys and multiple pairs of glasses around my apt. In addition, I keep a pair of glasses by my telephone which is on a nightstand near my bed, so that if the phone rings, I can have a pair of glasses handy, to look at the caller-id.

Last time I got eyeglasses, I was too cheap to get bifocals. Turned out I used the reading part more than I’d imagined at the time. Not to worry…much…I can read pretty well with my glasses off. And my eyesight for distance is sufficiently blurry that I can’t forget to put them back on after.

Next time, it’s back to bifocals though. Trying to look at middle-distance things sucks. Items in an enclosed display case, for example. Off go the glasses…no, I can’t see. On go the glasses…nope, still can’t see. Off go the…aw heck, I don’t want that brooch anyway.

That’s where my mother’s usually were when she was looking for them…

Or the laws of Common Sense.

Don’t forget to feed the cat before you go to bed. The food is in the cupboard under the sink.

If they’re really always in the last place you look, you should just look there first! D’oh!

Yes, I know I’ve used that joke before.

What bothers me is when they’re not on top of my head, and I’m mid-search before I realize I’m freaking wearing them.

One of the good things about having worn glasses for most of my life is that I rarely lose them anymore. Of coarse it help helps that I wear them almost all the time.

“Mid-search”? You continue looking for them?

This is why, contrary to popular belief, the fact that they’re always in the “last place you look” is not so bad. Because once you find them, you stop looking.

Not me. I always look a few more places just to be sure.

Better safe than sorry!

“Mid” in a Zeno’s paradox kinda way.

The answer to the 2021 edition of “Where did I put my glasses?” is:

Down in the basement. On top of the freezer.

Still no sign of the cat though.

I don’t get the whole taking your glasses off thing. I mean, I need my glasses to see, I get a headache if I go glasses-less for too long. Why do people take 'em off?

You seem to have a penchant for losing them near refrigeration devices. I could have been worse; they could have been in the freezer.

I noticed that pattern. But it’s February and I live in upstate New York. Knowing that my glasses are someplace where it’s too cold doesn’t limit the possible locations down very much.
