Sorry, but I hope you are stuck at work all weekend due to an ungodly amount of snow. Then maybe you will stop with your weird “I want cold weather and snow” attitude.
The NWS just issued a blizzard watch that includes my area, starting Friday afternoon. So if I can’t avoid coming in to work Friday, you just might get your wish!
So, are you happy now?
Belowground portions as well, but not as often.
That is, lines with belowground portions that are separated by aboveground portions will have partial service if the aboveground portion is closed. For example: if the Potomac bridge gets closed, Yellow will likely operate south of the river only.
For more info.
See prior comment re: getting stuck at work!

Metro’s official operating limit is around 8 inches. They start shutting down aboveground service then, and may shut down more in worse conditions. Of course, yesterday they were single-tracking due to mere cold, zo don’t expect heroic measures.
Thank you for the Metro info, by the way. I am somewhat hopeful that I’ll be able to work from home on Friday. I have not been impressed by the driving skills of the average Marylander since I moved here, and I really don’t want to add snow AND my own inexperience to that mix during the evening commute if I can help it (I live about a 15-minute drive from my Metro station).
Don’t know who you work for, but there is a good chance that the federal government will close on Friday, and many private employers follow suit.
I’ve been with my firm for a long time, but I’m relatively new to this office. I’ve been told in a gossip-y kind of way that my firm is more stubborn than the feds. Fortunately, my specific job generally doesn’t require me to be physically present. So even if the firm itself doesn’t shut down, I know that two of the three teams I’m working for at the moment are fine with me working remotely, and I’ll confirm the third tomorrow (assuming manson1972 doesn’t find that person’s phone number first).
Always hope that electricity goes out!
OP: Well, I hope you’re happy!
nvm
My company is also more stubborn than the Feds. Official policy is that if you can’t work remotely, you have to use leave (unofficially, you can often persuade your manager to give you a nonbillable charge code).
Fortunately (?), I work 100% remotely so the commute will NOT be an issue for me.
I teleworked today, and federal government closing at 12:00 so probably PTO for me starting then.
This is WAY better than 90 degrees out and sunny!
I do find it amusing that after bitching about how it looked like I might not see any snow this winter, things have changed so dramatically in a week. We went from nothing, to my first dusting on Sunday, to my first real snow on Wednesday, to…well, whatever this weekend turns out to be. A lot of the headlines are throwing around the phrase “potentially historic.”
I assume I’m going to have to buy some sort of “I survived” t-shirt.
I’ve been working at home this morning too, although it’s been terribly slow since everybody’s on the agency’s VPN. But I love snow days–I get to work in my jammies and watch Columbo all day.
Mother nature heard your call.
So Asimovian, are you working from home today? I want a running commentary as you slowly get buried.
