Where might Trump go?
The Lake Of Fire?
Thanks for input all. I don’t really think Trump would like a place like Wyoming. He and Melania are too citified. Well, I suspect Melania might leave him, but I think she has the same sort of problem.
I thought Brazil was Portuguese. Not that that helps Trump, but just to clarify.
Folks are overthinking this. He tried to run to Scotland to dodge the inauguration. He was barred for COVID restrictions, but that won’t last forever.
Here are some reasons he would run for Scotland:
I don’t think he needs to run on January 20th. He has time until COVID dies down, until other legal proceedings evolve further. I’d predict he runs there as soon as he can, probably later this year.
I’m not saying it’s a sure thing, it’s just the surest thing I can think of. There are many other complicating events in motion right now, to put it mildly.
Seriously, I think he’ll have to surrender his passport as soon as he’s out of office. Legal investigations will start right away.
Officially, yes, Brazilian Portuguese is the language of Brazil; however, it’s my understanding that Spanish is very widely spoken as well. As Trump doesn’t speak either, though, it’s beside the point. He also doesn’t speak the French that is used in French Guiana, nor the Dutch spoken in Suriname.
Since when did states set up extradition treaties with other nations? And isn’t Scotland still a part of the UK?
I think I clearly wrote “no extradition treaty with New York,” and also “stronger libel/slander laws in the UK” as reasons to move to Scotland.
I think Little_Nemo got it in one. He already changed his primary residency to Florida. He’s comfortable at Mar-a-Lago, he’ll be surrounded by sycophants, and lawsuits from his neighbors won’t faze him a bit.
That is, unless he’s forcibly assigned to government housing…
I don’t believe folks are asked to surrender their passports until they are actually charged. I have no guess as to if/when Trump will be charged with anything.
I definitely feel he should be charged and arrested, but I’m not sure if the political will exists in the right places.
There are places in Brazil (and probably any country) where he could set himself up in a bubble compound. But he’s not going anywhere to any country where he might have to see sweaty poor brown people.
Russia is of course very white, but I don’t think he feels safer being anywhere closer to Putin than direct-deposit distance. Plus he’s not a fan of being a minority-language speaker.
So that’s why I think he runs out the clock for maybe a full year, then tries to do a runner to Scotland. Assuming of course that Scotland will have him.
Mar-a-Lago will be Trump’s first choice for where he’ll be living.
Florence, Colorado would be my first choice.
This. He’ll go to Florida and spend his days in Mar-a-Lago where, pretty much by definition these days, the only people he’ll be contacting are MAGAs and rich dudes milking Trump for favors. He’ll have his lawyers stall in the court battles and convince Trump that he’s totally correct and will absolutely be vindicated so Trump won’t have any reason to flee the country (look at how easily Trump’s been manipulated regarding the election cases). It’s not as though he’ll run into angry people when he’s going out for milk or to pick up his laundry. The dude’s an old man in declining health; he only needs the money and favors to ride out another five or ten years, max.
Why would they? It would be incredibly unpopular to allow it. There are plenty of right wingers in the U.K., and a fair number of pro-Trumpers prior to recent events, but not of the looney tunes insurrectionist variety. He can’t just move there as s permanent resident without going through the same immigration process as anyone else. A silver lining from Brexit is that his wife’s Slovenian passport doesn’t get him in.
Maybe if he greased enough palms, or blackmailed someone, or made an adequate case for amnesty against “persecution” in the US. He’s got a talent for twisting arms and playing the martyr.
IIRC, no country acceded to extraditing Julian Assange to the US because he might face the death penalty, or some other cruel and unusual punishment. I don’t think DOJ would actually go that far against Trump, but he could easily make the case that they might go that far. So that might work in his favor.
Trump’s going to experience a sharp decline in lifestyle. The news today is reporting that Deutsche Bank is cutting its business ties with Trump. This reflects a larger reality; Trump is no longer worth bribing.
I’m sure he’s collected a lot during the last four years but how much of it is left? Trump’s always been a terrible businessman and his sons, who have been managing his interests while he’s President, are reportedly worse than he is. The have been several reports of large sums of money “disappearing”. My guess is Trump’s people have been following his example and taking whatever they can grab.
So I imagine Trump is going to settle in at Mar-a-Lago, declare he’s back in charge, and open the books. And he’s going to find out he has a lot less money than he thought he had.
Nice wishful thinking, but he won’t warrant a supermax. If he sees any prison time at all, it will probably be one of those country club-style prisons, unfortunately.
He’ll go to Mar A Lago for a while until he buys a modest palace in Florida near his golf course. Is Mar A Lago one of those places that is a golf resort ringed with expensive homes? He can tool around in his tacky gold plated golf cart shaped to resemble a Rolls Royce.
Wherever he goes, a large chunk of the population will not appreciate his presence.
When a local guy got out of prison, pretty much everyone hated him. He’d walk into a local restaurant, sit down, then never get waited on. Eventually he relocated, I know not where.
I acknowledge there’s very little chance Trump will end up in prison. But if he did he would be a very high-profile prisoner. He’d be placed in a supermax so he could be protected from other prisoners.
