I did kind of like the Smashie guy, though - but only while he was a novelty.
Smilies that move - ANY smilies that move - are an abomination. Pure and simple.
And I like the fact that the new smilies are all the same colour. Let’s keep the twee cutisms to an absolute bare minimum. If they’re there to serve a purpose (as they obstesibly are) then let’s keep that purpose clear and unadorned. A big thankyou to whoever is responsible.

I’m with Kabbes. Thank the lord for no more animated smilies. I turned off animated graphics on my browser so I wouldn’t have to suffer with the INCESSANT MOVING ROLLING BASHING GRINNING WINKING KILL ME NOW smilies on the temp board. I like the understated pale new smilies.

Speak it brother…or sister, anyway smilies are a necessary evil that exist solely to enable those of us who constantly insult people to not hurt anyones feelings. You don’t need rainbow, smashing, or rolling smilies to convey friendliness, sarcasm, pique or Jewish ancestry.
Personally, I plan to borrow a virtual Lee-Enfield from somewhere and hang around the border with the temp board… if I see any smiley waving a gavel at me, I’ll happily put a cyberspace .303 round right between its gormless eyes the minute it crosses into our territory…

I’m so glad that there’s NO smashie/bashie/bonky here! He was cute for a few minutes, but that’s about it. I can’t stand the little guy. Imagine a whole “chain gang” of them bashing their way through a post. IIRC, we are able to use a whole lot more than 5 emoticons per post here. Sooner or later, someone would make a post containing a hundred smashies, and make our eyeballs bleed.
It’s so pleasant to be able to read a message board that doesn’t make me feel seasick. Smilies that make my monitor pitch and roll are wayyyy to distracting.

Well, I miss the colors (not the animated ones, mind you) It was like ident-a-feeling! Blue, red, green, you immediately know what the person feels without having to figure out how the pixels lay. Sigh. The :eek: also looks like his eyes are only pupils. It sucks.

I miss Eek! She was my favourite smilie of all time. She was just so cute and expressive with those eyes. Who’s this nebbish with the pupils?

Here’s a second for a non-animated smashie. And a VB code to allow you to change the color of the balance of the smilies. Someone out there has to have the smarts to do that, and it would probably be very useful. A Non Animated Smashie just has too many good uses.

I third the non-animated smashie. I even put together a sample of what it could look like here … hopefully I’m not breaking any copyrights or anything. Anyway, I think that’s a good way to make everyone happy.
I’d rather like the colors back in the smilies. . .however, I’m willing to forsake that in order to be spared the horror of 3,000 moving smilies.
