Which new Fall network shows are you going to give a try?

Not saying you’re committing yourself for the season or anything, but which of the shows on the major broadcast networks (+ the CW) are you going to watch at least once to give it a whirl? Most shows premiere this week (though a few have already begun).

There are five pilots I’m definitely going to watch:

No Ordinary Family: I like the concept
Lonestar: seems to be getting some good reviews
The Event: although I will bail if it looks like its going to be Flash Forward 2: Electric Boogaloo
Running Wilde: I’m hoping some Arrested Development will rub off on it
Undercovers: JJ Abrams hasn’t steered me wrong yet

The rest I’ll hold off on and wait to see if a consensus builds that I’m missing something.

There is NO WAY I should be watching HellCats… but I stumbled across it by channel surfing. I’m a middle aged man, and it’s so wrong. Ha ha… my wife walked in the room and caught me watching it; after admonishing me, she started asking questions about it. She did one of those things where she watched a little of it while standing up… then sat on the edge of the sofa like she was going to get up any minute; until finally sitting back and enjoying the show and making comments… “Oooohhh that blonde’s mom is a drunk; they need to get her out of there!” No Ordinary Family might be pretty good too. It’s what Heroes could have been before they overloaded the show with special abilities people.

Nikita was the same way. I wasn’t planning on watching it, but I crossed over an episode while surfing. It might be worth a watch. I’m most excited about The Defenders and Hawaii Five Oh. It looks like Fox is dumping a TON of money into advertising Lone Star. I don’t get it… it just doesn’t look that good to me.

I pretty much clicked all of them.
I tend to give all shows at least one try - although occasionally I have been known to shut one off after 10 - 15 minutes of an hour show if it sucks. (i.e.: Good Guys on Fox - truly wretched.)
My DVR will be very busy for the next two weeks.
Usually though, by week three, about 25% will be dropped from the list - if not more.

Five-O and Blue Bloods. Maybe Nikita. None of the rest inspire any interest.

I have TiVo season passes set up for:[ul][li]Blue Bloods [/li][li]The Defenders[/li][li]Detroit 1-8-7 [/li][li]Hawaii Five-O[/li][li]*Lone Star [/li][]Outlaw[/ul]So far I’ve only seen the premiere of Outlaw, and I liked it enough to stick around for the next episode. I’m a big Jimmy Smits fan, despite the tendency of his characters to be self-righteous. Off-network, I’m watching Terriers on FX and liking it quite a bit. I seem to always like Donal Logue, and it’s good to see Michael Raymond-Jones again (Rene from season 1 of True Blood).

I probably won’t watch any of them unless I hear something positive after a few weeks.

AMC’s Walking Dead premieres Oct 31. Not sure if it’s a series or an event, but I am THERE.

I am hoping (but doubtful) that Mike and Molly is going to be about more than just fat jokes.

I didn’t check it, because I am not sure I will even try it. On Monday’s I used to watch The Big Bang Theory. Now that it is on Thursday, that slot is still being recorded. But I’m not convinced I’ll watch.

I missed No Ordinary Family, but would have checked that if I had remembered.

That show doesn’t premier until next week, so you haven’t missed anything yet.

No Ordinary Family almost lost me, I think I got halfway through a promo and thought “Oh great, they got Vic Mackey (dirtyish cop from the ‘The Shield’) playing in a touching family drama now.” Then I happened to see a whole promo with the superhero angle, that looks much better. I’m cautiously optimistic.

The Event and Nikita are my other two.

BTW, in case anyone wants to see the artwork/posters for these shows (plus some returning shows), the Hollywood Reporter has the Best/Worst Fall TV Show Ads slide show.

I’ve been seeing posters everywhere for “My Generation” and I still have no idea what it’s about. No thanks.

  1. No Ordinary Family - I’ll give it a shot
  2. Outsourced - supposedly it’s not very good, but since I used to work closely with an Indian call center, it might hit close to home.
  3. Running Wilde - I’m hoping for an Arrested Devolopment vibe
  4. The Event - I’m surrendering to the hype and watching the pilot; it’d better deliver.

I don’t have a lot of TV time so I’m hoping at least two of these are really bad or get cancelled.

Thanks - actually though, I meant that I missed seeing that it was one I could check. I would have checked it if I had seen it was up there.

That’s on AMC? I was under the impression it would be on HBO or Showtime or something for some reason. Glad to hear it’s on a channel I can watch more easily.

I have pre-emptively decided to hate them all. It makes things easier me and fits my policy of being a curmudgeon.

Just the new** Law & Order**. No way in hell am I going to watch The Event. NBC pissed me off too much with Persons Unknown to trust them with another mysterious, wtf-type show. I wasted 13 hours last summer on that show, I’m not doing the same thing again. I’d only watch it if it lasts a full season and gets great reviews.

I’ll do with The Event what I did with 24 back in 2001: record it for a while, then see how the reviews start shaking out.

I do not intend to start doing marathons, if you were wondering.

“The Cape” looked pretty decent from the previews. And it’s on NBC, not Fox, so I have to figure it has at least a chance of not being canceled immediately.

I’ll be sure to catch the non stoner/dadaist new stuff they run on Adult Swim, though. Wait… :smack:

(Did this post sound more “pretentious” or “horribly bitter”? I was going for “bitter,” but it’s hard. :frowning: )

The Event, but I’ll wait a few weeks to see what people think.
