Which new Fall network shows are you going to give a try?

Maybe the funniest post of the day!

Well, good luck with that. I was looking forward to Hawaii Five-O, mostly because I loved it back in its heyday, and because of the ex-stars of *Three Rivers *showing up in a new venue.

It was great to see all that gorgeous scenery, but they do need to work on the sound. The sound engineering just sucked. Dialogue was completely drowned out by rain, swelling “background” music and all sorts of environmental sounds. This is a show that really benefits from closed captioning.

I tried to find an online reference to something I heard a good while back that ties in with this sentiment. No luck. What I recall was an old farmer winning a lottery or the like and being asked what he planned to do with his winnings. He said, “Oh, I’ll just keep on farming until it’s all used up.”

If our poll here is in any way representative of the viewing public, I’m sure the producers of School Pride thank you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Not sure if I’ll give Detroit 1-8-7 another chance. The cameraman needs to learn how to hold a shot still. The stupid OMG this is important (even though it’s only just someone sitting at a table), must jerkily zoom into someone talking and then zoom out! shit needs to stop.

I didn’t find Running Wilde nearly as bad as the buzz had led me to believe. Even laughed a couple times. I’ll give it a chance, if only for Will Arnett.

You’re exactly who I thought would be watching that show.

I voted ‘none’ but not because I’m a TeeVee snob – I watch more TeeVee than any three people I know – but I have completely lost the ability to be in the same place at the same time every week to watch a show. Even when I DVR something, I end up not finding the time or inclination to catch up.

I tried oh so hard to be a ‘24’ guy a few years back, but I couldn’t pull it off.

I blame the 4 million movie channels I subscribe to and Netflix streaming video.

I’ve tried 3 new shows so far:
Mike and Molly - the jokes were predictable and the laugh track was very distracting, but the characters were enjoyable enough to try a few more episodes.
Hellcats - not a great show by any means, but a guilty enough pleasure to watch when nothng else is on.
Running Wilde - Swimming upstream against the tide, but I liked it a lot. Laughed out loud twice at “don’t tell anyone I’m psychic” and “no one wants to stay in the jungle, not you, not the tribe”. It’s my kind of humor and likely to be appointment television.

Saw ABC’s new sitcom Better With You last night. More like the lineup would be Better Without It. Even if they have to go back to showing reruns of one of the other three Wednesday sitcoms instead, they need to drop this stinker like a log. Remember Hank from last year? I thought it was mildly okay, but everyone else on earth hated it. Better With You = Worse Than Hank.

Undercovers was exactly what I thought it would be. It’s not going to be appointment television, but if it’s on and I’ve nothing better to do, I’ll watch.

“Better With You” was weird filler between “The Middle” and “Modern Family.” I could see a family with kids watching the other shows, I can’t see them watching “Better With You.” And I can’t really see anyone liking it that much.

Watched The Whole Truth, and liked it okay. The cutting back and forth between prosecution and defense was interesting, but it seems darned unlikely they would be calling each other up and taunting each other. I like both the leads and will probably watch it again.

The Whole Truth and The Defenders are on at the same time.
DVR’d them, and the winner is The Whole Truth - much more interesting (at least the Pilot episode) while Defenders went for “quirky” that didn’t work all that well.

Raising Hope was good - will see if they keep it as funny in the upcoming episodes.

Hawaii 5-0 was not horrible.
Detroit 1-8-7 was OK - not great, but worth another look.

Not new, but the series premiere of Medium was truly horrible this year! We actually liked the show in the past, but wow - this episode sucked the big one.

Oh, and the new William Shatner sitcom - meh. I have seen worse (anyone remember Hank - Kelsey Grammar’s bomb?).

I watched Raising Hope, which I thought was funny. I’ll keep watching. Hawaii 5-0 was OK. I’ll give it a couple of more episodes at least if just for the eye candy. I’m about to watch Blue Bloods, which I recorded and I’m looking forward to L&O LA.

I thought Medium was hilarious last night! Mom and daughter somehow switched bodies, and Mom in Bridgette’s body had to go to school and do math. :stuck_out_tongue: Bridgette in Mom’s body had to take the bus to work and look at a body. “Are you ordering me to come downtown to look at a dead guy, Mr. District Attorney? Cool!”

But that’s not a new fall show. Nothing new has impressed me.

OK, so we watched Blue Blood.

To get you all up to speed:

Tom Selleck is Chief of Police of NYPD.
Apparently, his father (who lives with him at home) was also Chief of Police before him.
Selleck’s wife died a few years ago.
Selleck’s oldest son is a detective on the NYPD.
His youngest son dropped out of Harvard Law to become a rookie cop in the NYPD.
A mysterious other son was killed in action in the NYPD.
Daughter is the DA in NYC.
Youngest son’s girlfriend is a young attorney at the DA’s office.

OK - now that we have this totally implausible bullshit premise down, let’s get to the plot.
Then again - why bother?

This show is so horrible, if you gave it the Heimlich maneuver it would cough up 73 chunks of cliches.
This may be the worst, most convoluted pilot episode of a TV series made in decades. You should watch it just to give your eyes some exercise as they constantly roll back in disbelief.

And of course, I’ll bet every single female love interest of any of them also works in the NYPD or at the DA’s office. Like doctors involved only with other doctors on any medical show, it’s all so inbred!

I caught a few minutes of Blue Bloods, a dinner table scene, with the family sharing their thoughts on the justice system, issues of law and order. They sounded like it was the first time they talked about that stuff. I thought it was lazy writing – get everyone’s position out there – and unrealistic.

Funny you should mention that - I left out one part of the premise - not only is youngest son dating attorney girl who is assistant to his sister, the DA, but seems to have another young lass going gaga over him - and surprise, surprise - she is…get ready for this surprise…another young rookie cop in the NYPD. Who saw that coming?

So far, all that is missing is for their dog, Liberty, to be ex-NYPD canine patrol and a hero for dragging a child out of a burning building while sniffing out a heroin dealer on the way down the steps…

:stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, that’s some lazy writing. Maybe they figure, this show ain’t gonna last, why bother?
